Huge Congrats!!!

Thank you for your kind words and amazing blessings! I feel that it is my responsibility to teach Matthew that being a sportsman, a real sportsman, requires a certain amount of selflessness. After being blessed like we were, I felt that it was more important to teach him to help other's than to be selfish with that time. We could have squirrel hunted but that would not have made us the new friends we have now would it

John O'Dell, the small game guy at AZGF, has collected every species/subspecies of squirrel in U.S. I was at Chris Krueger's (Krueger Creations) dropping off my sheep while John was there picking up a couple squirrels. A few days later I brought the sheep horns to G&F to get plugged, and John did it for me.That's when I found out about his squirrel collection. As an aside he told me Kris was the best sqirrel taxidermist he's ever used. But be aware, he is not cheap. IOW, you get what you pay for. I couldn't agree more Tony, Chris is the best small mammal taxidermist in the western states, and he is not cheap. I have had him do a coues buck (650) an open mouth javi (650) currently working on my elk (1300) and also working on my grey fox with habitat and two quail flushing (1500). BTW Nice Ram Tony

I practice long distance shooting with my bow and have pins set out to 110yds but I would not try to shoot at that distance on a thick hide like an elk. We also have to consider the loss of kinetic energy as the arrow loses speed. Uphill and downhill obviously play a role but so does the game hide you are hunting, size of vitals etc. I double lunged my bull at 60 yards with no pass through and my bow shoots about 268 fps. This would tell me that 60 yards should be my maximum distance on an animal the size of an elk. Lots of modern bows shoot much faster so I can see where bad decision making could up the distances that shooter's feel comfortable at. I agree with the above comments that a range and stationary targets are different than moving animals but the shot shouldn't be on the animal while it's moving should it? Many Blessings Guys

Hunt the south southeast facing slopes of the Cerro Colorado mountains in the mornings and check out the highest peaks in the Las Guijas Mountains in the evenings. I have killed in both locations and have always had better luck in the southern end of the unit.

First, leave the ad hominem attacks at the door. No one here is "crying." " These are YOUR words. You try and get around them by stating that you were theorizing with questions marks all over...but you can't. I have a problem, as do a lot of people, with you accusations of criminal activity without so much as even a picture or story of the animal in question being posted. Those sorts of accusations carry with them serious implications. You don't seem to understand that. More than likely, we will NEVER see this buck or hear the story of such an amazing deer (if the story is true) because of the negative attention YOUR accusations brought to this thread. This is especially troubling for me because people who know the hunter posted on this thread. We could have seen this magnificent animal. Also, please stop trying to blame everyone else for your actions. It gets old. And FYI "Hmmm" isn't an apology. If you would like to apologize, then please do so...I know that a lot of people would appreciate that gesture. Negativity has no place here, let's leave it to the media to piss us off bc777
