Cool pics. How long did the bear stick around for? Do you think that the bear affected the deer movement in the area?

Cool pics.....I been hunting and have seen a herd of elk on the run with a coyote chasing a calve with the cow trying to chase off the coyote. The lion seems a little small....is it the angle?

Does anyone know why they keep the tuna? Is it a state law, ordinance, game and fish regulation???? Or is that charter operators have you be the short hairs and can dictate what’s what! That said, assuming you could find a boat to rent yourself, can you keep your catch?

We chartered an overnight fishing trip back in May for tuna but the bite is not on so when we got the Fishermans Landing and were told that we would be fishing San Clements island. We were all somewhat disappointed as we had been looking forward to some tuna actions. We had been looking at the current tuna fish counts for the various boats and it didnt look good. The boat captain convinced us that it would be better to fish the island for bass, rock fish, and yellowtails as opposed to taking a boat ride for maybe a tuna or two. Side note, when I got home I checked the web and saw that a two day charter came in the same day we did and they had 2 dorados and 1 yellowtail!. Also, as of today the mulitday trips are still having problems getting the tuna to bite. It turns out that we were in line for a great day of fishing. I personally caught over 30 fish (I didnt keep them all). With the last fish of the day being a big yellowtail that gave me one heck of fight! We were 10 fishermen in total and our days catch was 67 (mostly calico bass, 3 sheepshead, 3 white seabass, and 10 sand perch) and 5 yellowtail that we catch within the last hour of the trip. The best part was the my 8 year old nephew caught and fought unassisted the biggest fish and won the big fish contest. He has been ocean fishing in San Diego 4 times in his young life and has won big fish contest three times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say we all were very happy that the captain talked us into going to a place that would give us the best chance to catch fish. Great Time had by all!!!!!!!!!!

Question for all you Braid line fisherman. I recently spooled 100 yards of 30 lb mono backing with 150 yards of 50 lb Spiderwire with some kind of wax coating (assumed) to increase casting, and a 5 foot 30 lb mono leader for a San Deigo fishing trip. I had some problems with the line initially not being spooked on tight enough which in turn cut into the spooled line and basically increased my drag causing two breakoffs with big fish because the spool could not turn as the fish was taking line. After the first two breakoffs, I respooled with alot more tension on the line and that helped a lot but after a day of casting squid and live fish and retrieving the line with and without a fish on the end of the line, it resulted in the line cutting into the spooled line again and causing one more break off. What should I do to prevent this again? Side note, I know the the line strength was over kill but I wanted to make sure that i didnt loose any fish due to line strength!

WFGinNM, Good thought but that didnt seem to be the case as the mono looked pretty level. The line cut into the spool within the first few yards. I'll look into the azbasszone for some advice. Azhunt, what is the difference between Spiderwire and Spectra? I will say this, after doing some more research, I realized that I did not spool the line on properly. I should have spooled the line in the same direction that it unwrapping off its spool. I did it the old fashion way, tie it on the spool and crank the handle!

Good looking bucks! I would definately shoot first and ask questions later!

So..................Any updates as to what G&F is going to do......................Hope you get the tag you want!
-
Wow! Im sure that was a trip of a lifetime! Some people dont think that shooting long distance is hunting but shooting at some of the distances you shot requires a lot of skill and doesnt detract form the hunt. Huge Congrats on all your harvests and the overall experience has got to be second to none!

Big congrats on on the hog. did you see any of the soccer games?
-
Great pics. Some of those bulls look pretty big! Cat pics are always awesome! how many trail cams do you have out?
-
hope you have an elk tag. I didnt draw this year but those pics get me excited and reliving my 6a archery hunt last year. One of the things I always want to see during a hunt is two bulls fighting, all the elking bugling and chirking, and me chasing. I was lucky enough to see/hear that last year on the second to the last day of my hunt. Exciting doesnt begin to explain it!
