Great job! Huge congrats......there is only one first bull and it is literally and figuratively the biggest........for now anyway! The late season elk hunter dont know what they are missing! sshh....dont tell them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Expectations and trophies are in the eye of the beholder! I have hunted the late 22 archery hunts and have to say that I have seen a few 350ish bulls and a lot of smaller bulls but they are difficult to get to and even harder to shot with bow and arrow! One area has a series of canyons that one year held 20 something bulls throughout the hunt! Some years when it has very dry, waterholes and trials leading to them were the best possibility to see and arrow one up close! When it was a wet year, just getting close the canyons were they was extremely hard. I will say that seeing a good bull was not hard.........getting close was due to the terrain and vegetation was! Expectations......well as difficult as my late archery hunts have been, I would arrow the first bull that I liked. One year I shot at and missed a 2x1 bull on the day before thanksgiving (buck fever galore)....tough hunt to say the least! I taken my family members in the same areas for the December rifle hunts and the expectations are a lot different as shooting them at greater distances is easier! In others words, if you think your chances are slim to get a bull because of terrain, weather, scouting etc...then just shoot! If your hunting conditions are good then hold out!

Good luck, I know what you mean. On my 09 hunt I was there for almost three weeks and running on a few hours of sleep everyday. Some nights I was too tired to eat so i would go straight to bed! I lost 12 pounds on the hunt! BEST hunting time of my life! -

If you buy a buff tag, make that your first and only priority for scouting! They are hard to find to begin with and when the shooting starts on openning morning the buff are hard to find if not improssisble as most will got the grand canyon where you cannot hunt! Some people hire a guide just to get a buffalo on openning day (it maybe the only way to get an az buff because of the drawn odds) and then hunt deer. You more than likely will not hear of a DIY buffalo taken after the 2nd or 3rd day! That isnt to say that the deer will wait for you to find them after the shooting starts either! The lion tag will never hurt as you will see them when you don't have one and they are good for the rest of the year and units! Good luck on whatever you decide. Good problem to have!

Solution to Water Hole Problems/Confrontations
trophyhnter replied to m77's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Good for you, glad you handled it that way but "first come first serve" DOES NOT include my treestand or blind that I bought! I take measure so that people cannot use my treestand. I will not sit in a treestand or blind that someone has not given me permission to do so! -
WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!
