    Unit 27.

Killed my first bear in that unit. Up high in the pines. Too many hound hunters in the low country when I was there.

    Escudilla and Baldy next?

Will never happen... That rumor has circulated for over 20 years.

    Shoulder/Chest Holster

check out 7x leather. He is out of Wyoming. Does tons of custom leather work. Built me a chest holster for my 44 mag. Carry it all day during shed season. sun up to sun down. sits nicely under my bingo's. It is comfortable and adjustable to an extent. He builds it for your body size and can do it for just about any gun. Super nice guy to boot. Busy guy though does a lot of cowboying so you may need to call a few times to get him on the phone. http://www.7xleather.com

    got the call

So my buddy got a call yesterday 4/11/2016 from azgfd saying that they had a tag and he was next in line. They said that they had about 40 of these to get through. They were personally calling to verify that they still wanted to be included in the draw and told him he has a tag. So he is pretty happy. Thought it was interesting that a week later they were still working on calling people.

Is Draw still going on this Week or it's OVA?????

friend got a call on 4/11/2016 saying they had a tag for him

    Just want to vent

My buddy drew antelope with 25 points. Last time he had that tag was 1975. He also had 16 elk pints and didn't draw. The system doesn't work but there is really not any better solution on the table. Be happy when you get a tag and hunt over the counter until that goes away.

    Lighted Nocks

I won't hunt without them. Don't know if the bow is too fast or my eyes are too slow but I was never able to see my arrow hit and therefore could never say to myself that it was a good, bad, or indifferent hit. Oh and those misses... it has never been easier to find my arrow. There has never been a noticeable difference in flight or accuracy. I am able to know exactly where I have hit the animal and then judge the time i should give it to expire. Bumping a wounded animal is a mistake that just sucks and makes it so much more difficult to retrieve in the end. Wont go to the woods without them. Have used the same knock to take many different animals. Easy to turn off with the tip of your knife and back in the quiver it goes.

    is anybody out lookin'?

Its all good. Skiing sounds like a lot more fun in January though! Through the years time and perseverance seem to pay off. I manage to pull a decent pile each year no matter how it starts out. You can start in January I am ok in March. Your not getting them all!

    is anybody out lookin'?

only finding rag horn drops. Think some of the big boys dropped real early this year and with the weather being that it was there were guys out from the beginning of February. See lots of people finding a few but not like past years where you can just clean up in an area.

    grilled cheeze-hold the bread...

went out yesterday and we picked up 2 brown singles and a white. One of the browns was little baby5. would be surprised if his bases were bigger than a beer can. Surprised to have found that so early in the season. Also picked up a brown 360 set last weekend. With the mild weather there have been guys in there since Early February cleaning up whites. I know of about 25 other browns that have been scooped up as well. So they are out there. That being said you always see some bulls in May that are still packing. You will find them where you find them when they see fit to drop them! It is what it is and they are where they are. Get out and enjoy some of this unseasonably warm weather!

    Concerned about the upcoming generation...

Socialist or not Bernie Sanders wants to fund and expand education. Don't agree with all his policies (but then again i don't agree with all of the republican platform either) but definitely agree with creating a smarter society. That starts with taking the time and money to educate our citizens.

    Concerned about the upcoming generation...

This is what happens when you don't fund education. The problem runs far deeper than teaching history. This is about politicians and citizens being so short sighted. Raising idiots is ok if were saving a buck, right?!!!!

    brownies come hard...

They are out there. Yes lots are still packing but there are definitely browns on the ground. The match set was from saturday. I know others that picked up 5 and 6 browns over the weekend and a couple guys that found single browns. Most of what was found are whites. Its fun no matter what. Your in the woods exploring! If you think your not having fun when your not finding them remind your self that you could be at work, visiting the in laws, at the dentist. Those thing are not fun! Get out there and enjoy it.

    Shed hunting pointers

I know that idiot… he actually lost his bike there 2 years ago. hunter found it this past fall. leaned it against a tree and couldn't ever locate it again (so he bought another). there are some locals that hit it every morning from march-the end of may. They clean it pretty good. They know the area and have worked it for the past 30 years or so.

    Sheds

I do it for the thrill. I still run when I see one like its going to jump up and run off. Coming out of cold winter its nice to get off the slopes and back into the woods. Fun to see what made it through last fall and winter. Just an added benefit that they bring money. I have sold them at $6.00 a pound and at $14.00 a pound. As much as I like looking at them the green $$ in my pocket feels better. And lets face it you can always go out and find my. Selling them isnt the problem. Its the lazy bastards on quads that are the problem and they have been there long before prices have gone up. I would rather park my truck in the garage than store horns and the piles just add up.

    Shed hunting pointers

Thick thick ugly nasty. A place you don't want to be. That where the sheds are… They are also in the flats, on the benches, in the bottoms and up on top. But the key is thick ugly nasty in areas that elk winter. If elk are not wintering there then your never going to find them. Th smaller bulls will often drop in those transition zones as they shed later and have already begun to move back up. Don't let quads get you down. I find horns every year laying in or within 10 feet of quad tracks. Often they are hard whites. I walk the same areas over and over. From one night to the next anything can drop. Over the year seems like the formula is about 5 miles of walking for a horn. If you have not found one yet don't go back to the truck. keep on walking. I will walk into camp in the dark before accepting getting skunked for the day.
  20. The yotes is 5 get called a lot and are pretty wise to the call. You can listen to them hoot it up but it is tough to get one to commit to the call and come charging in.

Ok, Enough is Enough!!!! Unit 9

i have been clearly told by the game warden in 9 and the one for 8 that also covers 9 that the unit is no longer being managed for trophy elk. Stood their right on the side of the road chatting with them. both were dead serious. unit 8 warden said the same was true for 8. A lot of this goes back to the input submitted by the public a number of years back now. Basically public opinion was that they would rather have more opportunity to hunt rather than quality hunts. From that point tag number skyrocketed and many trophy units simply went to blast as many as you can. Guessing now that people have seen what more opportunity gets them they are wishing they asked for quality over opportunity.

    AZ Unit 9?

Thanks for the info. I am getting a lot of info from guys on how bad the weather can get there. Just hope we get a few good days to poke around. I don't know the first thing about finding javelina, but maybe we will stumble across some. Are they at higher elevations 6500 and up? Have hunted that unit many tomes and hit it hard every spring. We see javelina everywhere in the unit. The are big, thick and wooly. The weather can be crappy. It gets plenty cold out there.

    AZ Unit 9?

There are deer in there but that can be a tough hunt. Keep in mind that once the roads start getting pretty snotty they close them and access can be a challenge Unit also has over the counter javelina tags and there are plenty in the unit now a days
  24. JustinB

    A Disgusting 40%

AZFGD has used elk and turkey decoys in unit 9. They were quite successful as it seems the majority of unit 9 seems to be plagued by road hunting.
