Wildwoody... You're exactly right and thus the rule, to prevent bringing it in from say CO. It is legal to take the entire thing to a taxidermist or processer as they dispose of the carcass properly. The fear is a random person shooting deer in CO that has CWD, processing it in AZ, dumping the brain/spinal cord in the woods where it could be picked up by deer in AZ. Through that process AZ could potentially have CWD

Hunter, There are two different reports. There is the one that sounds like you looked at that tells you how many people are at each bonus point value. There is a report for each draw that shows the results by hunt number. That is where you will find the bonus pass report. I cant get the link to post for some reason.

Or the bonus point report on the azgf website

As for other hunters, that debate will always go back and forth. As for a vehicle in a closed area you should have called GF or FS right away. So frustrating when a person walks in a ways and a lazy law breaker comes in with a vehicle.

I'd hunt more towards the forest boundary than towards the rim.

AZGFD Special Meeting

Word on the street is this is a whistleblower against the Commission who is not enforcing a state law. State law is if a state employee is found guilty of reprisal those individuals shall no longer work for the State. Director Voyles was found guilty of reprisal but the Commission has not fired him thus the whistleblower to the Governor. -

Anyone having problems with putting in for spring draw
Northern Pintail replied to goinhuntn's topic in Javelina
I did have the same issue but when checked my cc it was hit for the app fee. -
I'm gonna be as nice as possible. Its your first post and your asking for help when the elk are talking? A blind guy can find elk this time of year.

How Many Bonus Points Did It Take to Draw?

I did some research on why they moved both the archery and general tags before applying. The info I got from GF was there is a theory out there by a big ranch in the state that there is a low to fawn doe ratio in the spring because they are hunted during the rut. Because this ranch has pull, gf decided to listen and picked a couple units where they wouldn't hunt during the rut as much to see if that theory is true. Now we all know coyotes eat the heck out of fawns, thus low survivability. It has nothing to do with more money or any of those dumb ideas.

I don't understand the up roar. They have flown every unit right before the hunt for many many many years already. The way I read it is that it is just a different way of them finding elk. Also, its not during the hunt. Its just another thing to complain about I guess. If I had the tag I would just use it as a clue to where there are elk!!!

If it is the 4A Hopi tag it is good for all of 4A. If its a 4A North Hopi tag its for everything north of the forest. Its called a Hopi tag as GF gives them a percentage of tags to keep their lands open to non tribal members, primarily for pronghorn hunters. You should not have any issues finding a cow in 4A.

What units did you apply for?
Northern Pintail replied to ruthunter's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
Flatlander that is not true. I know of a guy that drew permit number one for a hunt last year as a non resident with 9 bonus points. He ended up killing a 163, with a bow!!! -
In all fairness, if it is on a rotating basis I see no problem with this. Every other year the rifle guys get first crack and obviously the other years archery guys get first crack. All they are doing is rotating the hunts, not adding a new hunt or anything. All it does is push the start of the archery hunt back a week to what would normally be the second weekend of the archery hunt. Archery guys are not taking it in the shorts as they can always apply for the general hunt and use a bow, but youd only have a week to hunt. I'm with some of you who say archery guys lose out all the time but we are not really losing anything, other than not going first every year. Rifle guys should get the first crack at some of the bigger bulls too. 2cents

Thoughts on the "wilderness" hunts.
Northern Pintail replied to Bitter24's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
Big Brown is right but there are still "good" odds out there. Considering its a sheep tag. I probably look at the draw differently than most but have pulled some pretty premium tags with less than 10 points, sheep included. -
Forlorn Hope is right... The reason they are called hopi tags, specifically entire unit tags, is that they get a certain percentage of tags so we can hunt on their land. A lot of 4a is owned by the hopi's, its not reservation land but owned by them. In return for non natives to hunt it, AZGFD gives them a percentage of the over all tags. they dont take all of them so its a very good trade off.

Its against all applicants and you drew it in the bonus pass round. I doubt applications are down much but where people put in changes. Especially when residents start getting to that 5-8 point range they tend to change how they apply.

Most juniors elk hunts haver harder draw odds than normal cow hunts. The only advantage of the jrs hunt is that they try to put them on holidays where kids do not have school. If i had a kid i would not be putting them in for jrs hunts. It is ridiculous how hard it is for kids to get drawn for the Jr. hunts. I have expressed my frustration over and over to the G&F. I quit putting my kids in for them. I will pay the extra money so they can actually get drawn. Youre absolutely right how rediculous it is but thats what happens when there are more kids than tags. Something i would like to see is when a junior puts in for the first time for a specific species, juniors hunt only, they get drawn, if there are more kids that qualify than tags it works like the max bonus pass. Probably something that needs to be taken to the commission.
