Is it possible to hunt elk each year as an AZ resi?
Northern Pintail replied to teej89's topic in Elk Hunting
The way our draw works it is possible to draw a bull tag every year but it won't happen. You can gurantee drawing a tag every year but it would be a limited opportunity cow unit. Like mentioned before there are otc hunts, and people are successful guiding clients every year, but the otc areas aren't very large and the elk even farther in between. Do not move to az for the hunting/fishing opportunity, it's rough. Rough in the fact of getting tags is very difficult. Once you have a tag it's good though. Small game and waterfowl is well below average compared to other states. Public land is abundant though, which is always a plus. -
This guy is in new mexico (at least according to his profile)... thus different dates

To all the archery "hunters" in 24A (Pinal Mt Area)
Northern Pintail replied to whiteeye's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Not sure why that surprises you.... I would bet 70% of tag holders in this state do everything you mentioned. Let them. It helps those that get off the road. -
If you're talking about the monster ram by Quartzsite that thing is over 200 inches. Rumor is he goes on to the res after the rut but having a year to hunt him will help.

I've never been lucky to get a left over and what I always get in return is my entire app and uncashed check. Not sure what they would do with a money order though. Guessing they have to cash them.

you cant until a week after they are first served first come. The first week is through the mail only

Wind is typically out of the SW... Hunt the northern part which is primarily forest, you'll find plenty of elk

Yeah they are done hitting cards. They send them all in "one" push of a button. The reporting on your card may take some time depending on your bank though. All that's left is calling those who's card was invalid and then possibly issuing the tags people couldn't afford to pay.

Desert vs Rocky Mountain
Northern Pintail replied to furandfeathers's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
Would have to look at draw reports but would guess desert is easier just due to having more tags. But also be careful of what desert bull said -
Because an elk tag is an elk tag.

I never said it was the teachers fault. Education gets forgotten by politicians who don't fund education. Especially in az. And when is the last time you know of a teacher losing their job ? I'm in the same boat as the woman has been a teacher for 10 years. Completely agree on the poor parenting.

These may not be from az but they probably should be. Az is usually towards the bottom in education. Why education has been forgotten in this country is beyond me.

Red sparky. That's not how I read it. The portal is for results. Not credit card hits. Just because you have a cc hit does not mean it's results. Yeah you know the two likely choices you drew but that's not results.

According to AZG&F they should have shown on the portal before credit card hits. HMMM?????

People getting shot holding a cell phone already happens. But it's because they don't listen to police orders. Reaching for anything when being told not to will get you shot by the po po.

I've been seen a ton of pics on social media of guys finding them. They are out there.

no doubt the dead one... but both pics are rough

Arizona Not Immune to Land Grab
Northern Pintail replied to Lv2hnt's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
DesertBull.... I agree that wording is not the best, but the article hits the nail on the head in that federal land transfer to the state is a horrible idea. -
Based on my spring draw issues, I would keep applying until you get a confirmation number. It could result in a lot of money but then you at least know they can give you a tag. What happened for me in the spring draw was I had my app fee taken from my bank so I thought I was in the draw. Because it didn't give me a confirmation number they couldn't verify what I applied for and thus couldn't give me a tag.

Boquillas new rules / permit structure out
Northern Pintail replied to daverp's topic in Elk Hunting
trphyhunter, it is because is half state and half private. Locking most hunters out of "public" land. If it was all private there would be no issues. -
Sitting a Tank
Northern Pintail replied to Rando's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
If you want to sit it jump the ducks, throw out a decoy or two and sit and wait. Key to this method is not shooting. They will come back eventually, may take a few minutes or hours but it is a good strategy -
this was brought up last year and when I looked into it the reason was : there is a big ranch in AZ that believes hunting them in the rut is why we have such a low fawn to doe ratio, so they moved a couple hunts back to see if that does anything to help the ratio. Its not like antelope are hard to find during the day so the hunting shouldn't be any harder.
