I agree I'll probably never be in max for sheep but are we really going down the road of max for sheep being 60 points? I'm not sure when bonus points started in AZ but based on sheep max at 28, if someone started at 10 years old, and draws at 70, that's 60 f n points, not counting hunter ed and loyalty.

Don't believe the story. But it was ruined by people stealing cameras is what I think his point is. Problem is that its not hunters stealing the cameras (for the most part, right Blake?)

I don't know how to use the quote button but yes John Q Public gets thousands of acres to hunt elk. There are elk that are on Hopi lands and there is a hunt in 4B north that is directly used for those elk .

Why don't you like the hopi tag allotment? It gives antelope hunters thousands of acres to hunt that other wise wouldn't be there.

So I called about this. It is all about declined cards. The reason I got was if someone got declined they went to the next person in line. If that person in line was also declined the tag went to the left over list. They didn't have a plan for this and never really thought it through. I think there will be changes in the future but who knows. Colorado calls 5 people. Seems like those who put in for those hunts got screwed.

Early rifle or archery elk is that way. All other elk hunts can be drawn every 5-7 years. Some hunts can be drawn every year, just look at the left over lists, its the same hunts every year

Agree with everyone before me. OnX and study Wyoming draw odds. they are pretty easy to understand and can get off their website. If you want to go the easy way get gohunt.com.

New AZGF rule (proposed, which means it’s a done deal) about game cameras:
Northern Pintail replied to bowsniper's topic in The Campfire
How is this about revenue? I'm not saying I'm in favor of it but how does banning trail cameras make more money for GF? If your talking fines from the court, the court gets like 90% of the fine. If anything its potentially losing money as big money guys may not buy the tags for as much as normal. who knows, I guess we'll see. -
Special antelope draw just gives you better odds as it is a higher cost for the tag. In theory there could be a special draw for each hunt but usually the higher point totals is where you see it more

There will be left over Hopi tags and they are good for the entire unit, NOT just Hopi land. 654321 hit the nail on the head that its just compensation to access their land.

I dont think az got anything but does it matter? Like someone said before we got ours from Yellowstone so we r just paying it forward. WV and RMEF paid for it so thats great, if az paid for all of it Id probably be against it but its a great thing in the long run of wildlife management

Wyoming. Resident hunting opportunity is off the map. Lots of great places to bring up until you mention a close airport.

Area in 24b could be closing

They cant dump it in a location that was already mined? -
Just how much do you trust your bank/financial institution?
Northern Pintail replied to 1uofacat's topic in Elk Hunting
Pre paid is probably a good idea if youve had issues in the past and dont want to change banks Colorado is only charging preference points and will charge the rest of the tag fee if drawn starting this year. They may end up having the same issues you guys are talking about. Ive never had issues with my card. -
There are a couple limited opp hunts that you can guarantee a tag with 2 points but that's it. Its random luck for most hunts though. Well other than the strip hunt that may have 15 elk up there

There isn't an easy unit in AZ. If 23 plus years is easy then I guess there are several. There were only 825 permits in 2017. 9245 people applied for unit 10 alone.
-
You know you can hunt the entire unit on that hunt and not just Hopi land right? AZGFD gives a certain number of tags to the Hopi's so that normal hunters (mainly pronghorn hunters) have access to their lands in 4A. But you have to get that tag in the left overs unless you are Hopi
-
They are listed in the Elk Regs.
-
Elk are almost every where in unit 1. Just have to remember there have been hunts since august so you can't be close to roads. Sipe wildlife area is always a good bet.
-
What Hopi hunts are you talking about?
-
I had heard 5 were killed the first week.
-
Picked up a left over rifle tag this fall. Had never been in the unit until the night before the hunt started. Killed opening morning. In 4 hours of glassing I saw 4 bucks. Im sure you can find plenty of deer to hunt If you know what youre doing I guess.
-
Nope. They have been putting the rifle hunt before the archery hunt in one unit every year for a couple years now.

Closing roads is not restricting your rights to the forest. You can go any where you want on foot. AZ forests have more roads per square mile than any other state, and its not even close.
