I thought our website is difficult compared to other states. At least in other states the draw site works. Applied for Utah for the first time and took me 8 min for 5 species
-
Most of the units I hunt had more tags then than now.
-
It’s actually closed right next to the hwy and not all the way down by the lake turn off
-
Nope. Closed
-
Guess not. Did you? In talking with GF people there is talk that they don't manage alternative deer units the same as elk units but that's all I know. Not even sure what that means
-
It’s probably the most accurate way. Every western state flys and gets their data that way. They fly as close to the rut as possible to get more accurate buck to doe ratios. Do you have a better scientific way?
-
Why do you think they fly surveys every year? They get ratios from those surveys
-
I think you’d be surprised so see most units fit within guidelines such as buck to doe ratio and fawn to doe ratio. If you don’t like the ratios they can be adjusted every 5 years. Hard to argue to that tag numbers get increased because of money when guidelines are being met

You can get a bonus point through a paper application but being that paper deadline is jan 19 th year and the last year of paper apps you’ll have to do it online. Having a current license is correct. Not sure why your moving but next time you buy a license make sure you know what your residency status is and buy the appropriate license.

Haven’t seen if you’re a resident or not but if you are With 22 points and early archery remember that you WILL draw your first choice and have no shot at your second choice. Bottom line is you have waited a long time so pick the type of hunt you want and enjoy it Any of the top units could produce the biggest bull of the year so you really cant go wrong

2019 Az Elk and Pronghorn regulations out!
Northern Pintail replied to Azelkaholic2017's topic in Elk Hunting
Everyone wants less tags but not their tag Can’t have both. -
You did not see it because it did not exist. The regs are approved for 2 years now so they are almost identical. The regs for 2018 and 2019 were approved in December 2017. There was a reduction in pronghorn tags due to a lack of fawns.

It’s not the hunting that will occur in town it’s the weigh in and everything else associated with it -
AZGFD Dec 7th Commission Meeting - Education Funding

Hopefully it’s 3 million a year for the foreseeable future. It is not going to be run by GF but an external entity that should have marketing experience. I do believe that some things can’t be prevented but believe that we can fight and win against those that are trying to outlaw hunting -

Buzz, how is it not needed when the town of Dewey Humbolt just voted to ban coyote contests in city limits. Along with HSUA trying to get an initiative on the ballot this fall? Is your idea to do nothing and just see what happens? -
I believe they switched to a 2 year approval so 2018 & 2019 were approved in December 2017

Again more hunters than sheep tags. There will be people who never draw a sheep tag before they die, even for the units you didn’t mention. No way to fix that. I get the kid thing but any system we implement does not guarantee a tag
-
You’ll have an opportunity for that unit but you’ll have to wait. Just like the guys with max points have waited for that that unit. Sheep and buffalo are the only examples that it’s possibly not fair. But it’s probably just as fair because in units that aren’t being taken by those with max everyone has a chance. We all know az has more hunters than tags available for sheep, Buffalo, and antelope but it is possible to get those tags. I think most people would rather shoot a 160 inch ram than wait 30 years to shoot a 175 inch ram. Most will go to any unit to get a sheep tag than wait and possibly never get one. Personally I love my 162 inch ram on the wall that took 7 points over waiting 40 years and not being able to hike when I’m 70.

Buck Officially Scored 200 0/8" gross 197 4/8" net
Northern Pintail replied to bonecollector777's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Last I heard he had an initial appearance back in like August. Haven’t heard anything since then. -
Yes there are elk down low all year. And like forlorn stated the bigger bulls will be where most wont go and that could be from woods canyon lake all the way to Winslow.
-
In hopes of more people donating their tag if the second time you draw you can’t go on your hunt you can still donate the tag. You just can’t use point guard and get your points back. Someone had mentioned that you have to keep your tag. That’s not correct. Just can’t use point guitars. Tags can always be donated with or without point guard.

It was the Forest Service not GF. But funny how GF gets blamed for everything (probably a reason though). Like mentioned above. Its a blessing and a curse. In almost any other western state that amount of distance is the norm. AZ is just spoiled (is that the right term? Less roads = better hunting) with roads.

Follow bugles, find cows. Lots of elk. Is not hard to find elk in 4a
