No doubt, swaros are the best. But my vipers are a lot more like my old 4x4 idi turbo diesel then a 2wd ranger. Rugged, reliable, and more then enough to get the job done.and at 1/4 the price.... But I agree lance,if I could afford em I'd have swaros too.

Point is ,bill, that someone missing that many times either dosent know their limitations, is having equipment problems and needs to know when to stop,or just dosent care about the ethics of making a clean kill.there's no other explanation. Its not like I'm new to hunting bill.I've hunted big game for about 12 years so I do have some experience to draw off of. I also do know what its like to miss, just with a bow.and I sure as heck don't start lobbing arrows at running deer until theyre outta sight.I know my limitations, seems a lot of hunters don't and its a shame. That was my whole point with this conversation.
-
To each his own I guess.I hunt every chance I get and I don't lie,so I suppose that logic is flawed. Also, hunters wound and lose many coues every year, definitely not just any shot will put them down. If hunters want to take poor, low percentage shots, that's on them.if I'm not very confident I can hit lungs and/or heart,I don't shoot because its not an ethical shot. But I'm not here to debate anymore,I think its clear enough that someone missing 5,10 times in a row has no business taking those shots, obviously there's something that needs to change if that's happening in order to make a good clean kill shot.I'm surprised there's people on here that don't agree with that.
-
I just said,so far,probably with a mixture of luck and taking only good shots,I haven't missed yet.never said I can't miss! It'll happen,I'm only average with a rifle.
-
How many animals have you wounded taking shots like that? Simply getting the animal to decorate a house isn't worth the high risks of wounding it taking poor shots,in my humble opinion. I'm certainly not above missing, but I've been fortunate enough to never have missed a shot at a big game animal with a rifle....yet.and I'll do everything in my power to keep it that way. ...and now that I've jinxed myself, wish me luck in late December! Haha
-
Hey,maybe I'm just a horrible shot! But I've been around many excellent shooters in my life, including guides, military trained snipers, even a PH from south Africa...and never have I seen ANYBODY demonstrate that they consistantly (9 of 10)could hit an erratically moving target(coues lung and heart sized) offhand at 100 yards. Not even close. I surely can't. Its a personal decision on what an ethical shot is,I agree bill.but way too many don't seem to know what that even means, and its tough to see happen.if a deer is running from me,ive already blown that stalk and I,for one, have too much respect for the animals to take poor shots like that.
-
I don't know, that's an interesting question. As for the guys I hunt with, only one would maybe take that shot, and he would be catching a lot of flack from the rest of us if he did.
-
Hitting a moving target is very different then making a clean, ethical kill shot. If you can hit a paper plate sized target running 20 miles an hour,on uneven terrain, under pressure, offhand, every time....then congratulations, you are one of the greatest shooters on the planet. But reality is that the average hunter might hit a still target at 100 offhand under pressure MAYBE half the time, whether we admit it or not. Probably much less.... Even if someone could make that moving offhand shot 1 out of 3 like you say, those odds are way below what I consider an ethical shot. If I can't make the shot at least 9 of 10 times,I have no business shooting at that animal.its the way I was taught to hunt and I believe in it.
-
I gotta disagree bill.I have taken an offhand shot at a big game animal only once,25 yards at a still javelina.I know I can make that shot and it was a heart shot. But I'd never take a 100 plus yard offhand shot, especially at a running animal.unless you're a world class shooter, which I certainly am not, that's an extremely low percentage, unethical shot.we are talkin one out of 20 for a clean kill at least!lI'd never disrespect the animal like that. I'm sure there are people on here that'll say they can make that shot consistently and ethically.I call serious bs on that, its all ego speaking.
-
I don't know about you guys, but hearing all these stories of people taking 5,7,10 shots and missing makes me cringe.what ever happened to making a clean, ethical kill shot? I'm my opinion its our responsibility as hunters. I know that misses happen, but come on.we need to know our limitations with our rifles and stick to it,spraying and praying is not ethical hunting. This is NOT a jab at you varnco.

I'll take you up on that, best of 3 between the football game and 2 regular season basketball games. Loser puts the other teams logo as avatar for a year.what do you think? But if I lose ya gotta tell me what an avatar is and how to change it...

'Consolation prize cup'

Haha I've never known a fan base to hold onto the 'glory' of FINALLY beating Arizona in a meaningless regular season game like asu fans...I guess if it only happens a few times a decade,it probably is glorious to a lowly pathetic basketball program like asu.congrats on that win.arizona will only ever lose to an unranked asu team because theyre never ranked.I'll take the last 30 years over one win.... Good luck in your season and its sky high aspirations of making the NIT! I'm just razzin ya,good ole cats vs devils trash talk.rivalry wouldn't be as fun without it!
-
They've both been bad a long time and usually were good games.asu is a little better this year but I bet it'll be a tight one...its cool that both programs are finally respectable at the same time and that the games going to have high stakes on top of being a great rivalry.....and if the cats lose, basketball is right around the corner and we all know that 30 years of domination will continue.
-
Asu can sit on something, but I'll give you a clue it ain't the south.

Nice bucks congrats!
