Best rifle cartridge for open terrain - Unit 21 Whitetail hunt
Havasuhunter replied to Desert Rat's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
25 super, ultra, mega long magnum. It's a 50 BMG necked down to 25 cal.😂 Id say anything 243 to 300 ultra mag is perfect, as long as you shoot it accurately. -
that's hilarious! This is all fun and games as long as everyone remembers who the real enemy is. The anti hunting liberals love to see hunters fight amongst themselves and they love to point out how many hunters bend the laws for their benefit, further demonizing us.

I'm not on his side or defending him, but I don't think he's saying it hurts the trees. He's saying it's illegal. He also sea to be saying that if you are willing to break that law, it's a slippery slope toward breaking other laws. Because you think it's not hurting anything, doesn't make it any more legal.

There's a lot of nice bluefin right now, not wide open but a good shot at fish. Schools of Dorado also showed up, but are extremely line shy. You want to have a light 15-20lb outfit for them. The yellowfin and bluefin are mostly on the 30-40lb gear. Some bluefin are giant. You need 60-80lb gear if you run across those. Still plenty of nice yellowtail too.I have a trip in a week and a half scheduled on the outer limits.

I was not drawn for anything, but they are definitely up. Bonus points updated, etc.

Now the salmon pic loads! All my phone was showing was that pile of buts.
-
Funny looking salmon. LOL that pile of fish is making me hungry. Can't wait for my 2 day in 2 weeks. Keep the Alaska pics coming.

Chiggers don't fly. Maybe some sort of biting gnat?

Does the 375 Ruger have a place in AZ?
Havasuhunter replied to khmer6's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I think I have some old 375 bullets you can have, I'll never use them. I think they are old 270 and 300 grain hornadys. My buddy gave them too me. They had an older tenant that passed away and the family had no interest in his reloading stuff. I'll see if I can dig them up. I use the 200 grain Sierra, the 220 hornady and the 260 accubond in the JDJ. You could try the 225 Hornady spire point too. Cheaper and plenty bullet for anything in North America at 375 Ruger or H&H velocities. I'm just betting that 260 accubond would be an accurate flat flier. -

I'm betting it would surprise you with a 260 grain Accubond. I use that bullet in a 375 JDJ and it's great for deer and hogs at 200 yards or less. Doesn't expand a lot at JDJ velocities, but it puts them down. Wouldn't hesitate to hunt anything moose on down with it. Pushed out of a 375 Ruger case, you'd have a 400+ yard Elk hammer. -

Oldest Arizona bear you'be ever harvested?
Havasuhunter replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
4 months. He was coming right for me, I swear! Just kidding, never shot a bear personally, but helped on some hunts and carried a bear tag with me while deer hunting s few times. I had no idea how old a lot of those bears were. Very interesting. Almost touched off my release on what looked like a super old sow after studying her for several minutes. Something told me not to. Few more minutes later a cub wanders out of the brush. Glad I passed on my only bear opportunity. -
Dented brass on resize.

Don't put any lib on your cartridges, they will just try to ban them.😀 Sorry couldn't resist. I've never had that problem using one shot. I know a lot of the loading books say that will happen. As said before, it will just fire form back to shape once you fire it. -
That sucks, especially on private property. I'm betting it's trespassers not wanting to be seen. So many trespassers and poachers out there.
-
Very nice. I've caught 2 10lb largemouth in my life, both a long time ago. Lots of 7-8s. Biggest on Havasu this year was a 5lb smallmouth with stripers to 13lbs. A 9-10lb largemouth really is a huge bass. Hope to catch another one day.

Killed my first coues with a 30-06 and a 150 gr Sierra pro Hunter.
-
That's impossible. Only 2 shooters out of 50 hit the 1080 target from the bench? All the long range hunters around here hit everything they shoot at from a field position every time at that distance. 😃😃😃😃

If you've never been there and going in blind, take the first legal deer you can. My buddy from out of state drew the Nov 33 hunt, we will not be holding out for a monster. They are extremely small species. The average semi mature to mature buck you see when hunting non Coues in other states would be a giant Coues.
-
Good luck. I'm sure you will be successful if everyone helps out.

He's enjoying life somewhere laughing at the U.S. And Mexicos justice systems. Makes sense since they are both nothing but a joke! Guy should have been killed by firing squad a long time ago.

Reminton 700 7mag hang fire
Havasuhunter replied to ngazhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
All Weatherbys are belted I believe, unless they've snuck a new cartridge in there I haven't seen.On all belted mags I always just barely bump the shoulder for a bolt. A tad more on my Ruger #1. I have heard of Rem 700s actually having mechanical delayed fire problem. My buddies Marlin bolt had the problem too. We cleaned the spring, pin and everything around it and the problem was solved.
