4064 works good with light bullets in 6.5x55, mid range bullets in 30-06 and heavy bullets in my 375 JDJ carbine, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that it works well with a 130 in the 270.

A trout stream surrounded by beautiful country is hard to beat. I'm going to make a trip to the sierras this year myself. I'd love to check out some of those places in NM and CO. I started fly fishing in MT and WY when I lived up there. Loved it. The Bighorn River in MT is amazing, a must fish water. Great pics. Looks like you had a blast.

I'm going to have to get another Merriams now with all this turkey talk. I've killed those in CA and Easterns in TN. Guess I should start applying to get a Goulds someday. Beautiful birds.

I would have thought 4064 was a little fast for the 270, but it's a great powder. Very accurate in 3 different calibers I use it for. Seems like 4350 would be a good start for 130s. I'm about to start working up a load for my 270 myself. I have everything layed out now, just need to get to it.

A 22 mag is not a center fire rifle, muzzleloader or Handgun. Wonder if the guy read that and actually thought the 22 mag was legal? Shotgun shooting shot only simplifies things if the regs don't already read that. I've never looked at the AZ regs myself, but just assumed shotguns only for turkeys in every state with some air rifle exceptions

Winter is worst time for flatheads. Never been to Pleasant, but if like every other deep clear lake in winter look for Shad to be balled up and fish near them. That lake has white and yellow bass, so I'd be amazed if you couldn't catch something fishing spoons bear Shad schools. Largemouth will be on the Shad too.

Looks great. The couple Coues I've got were as good as any deer I've eaten. Very good eating.

They've been tough to comeby this year. Let's hope this rain helps a lot for next season. The cholla is sure tough on the dogs. Hate that stuff. Good job finding them. Quail hunting is a lot of fun.

SSTs work great in the 6.5 at a wide range of velocities. If there is factory ammo with the 140 SST, I'm sure you'll love them. I use them in 6.5x55 with great results.

Ouch! That's a lot of glassing. I haven't seen one either. Hoping I change that during the HAM hunt.

What good is it to not have anything at all?? Don't know why anyone would give a false report but even if you get 10 that do so an your report reads 250 deer harvests instead of 260. Where we are now they don't know whether it's 500 or 0. People that give false reports are poachers, period.

Game and fish doesn't care if they are expired. I had the same problem. Not too many field days near Havasu, I had to drive to Ben Avery to finally get mine done.

I think they were referring to the 280 as the 7 mm choice of the two cartridges based on the 30-06 case. If you don't reload, I say 270 hands down, if you do reload then either is great with long range bullet choices going to the 7mm(280).
