PRd my back squat at 245lbs and deadlift at 315x2 this week. Seems like every week I'm still getting stronger and leaner. Just need a Sheep tag now!

That's great results!Paleo works Great for me. I don't always stay Paleo, but 75-80%. Just have to see what works for you, everyone is different. As hunters I find it pretty funny guys would argue with a Paleo diet. Veggies from the garden, minus corn of course, meat you've shot or caught. Maybe eggs from chicken you raised? Nuts and berries you gathered. Sounds like an extreme crazy diet that no hunter, rancher or even farmer ever ate? LOL

I probably spend the same on food as before. Just make smarter choices. Spend a lot less on alcohol though since you tend to cut back automatically since it sabotages your workouts.

Definitely makes it more enjoyable being fit. I'd recommend anyone that has a passion for hunting work on their fitness. Night and day for me.

Waterfowl Gun for next year
Havasuhunter posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I got back in to waterfowl in a very minor way this year. Got one goose, some mallards and a variety of divers. I know one thing, I'd like to not have a shiny blued gloss walnut stock gun with me next year. Just used my BPS this last year. Would like to buy a reasonably priced waterfowl pump or auto. I know this has been discussed over and over but being off season, figured I'd throw a post up here. I had a Beneli SBE 2 that I regret selling a couple years ago, but needed the money. Not looking to buy anything that expensive right now. Looking for suggestions and if anyone has anything decent for sale. Thanks -
Calipers or find someone who can tell you based on a picture. The electronic bs you hold in your hand isn't accurate. It's still a great baseline though as long as you're consistent. You have to do it pre workout, same time of the day, make sure your hands are dry, etc. Measurements, calipers, electronic method are all relative. The key is to improve. Im more concerned with all my lifting PRs and overall fitness now. The elk on the ridge 3 miles away doesn't care about your body fat percentage.

Waterfowl Gun for next year
Havasuhunter replied to Havasuhunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Spray paint or dip the BPS. Absolutely no need for a new gun. If you're comfortable with a BPS then keep shooting it. Don't fall for the 3.5" hype. I waterfowl hunt 50-70 days a year and haven't shot a 3.5" shell since the day they came out. I've actually switched to 2 3/4" for most of my waterfowl needs. Smaller shot is key. I shoot steel 6's and 7's for most duck hunting and 3's and 4's for snows, honkers and cranes. Speed is king. Get a good fast steel load that patterns well ina 2 3/4 or 3 " and spray paint the BPS if it makes you feel better. If you truly just want a new gun cuz you want a new gun then make sure you shoot a couple before you buy. They are all very reliable these days (except Turkish shiite and Browning's) but they all point very differently so make sure you find one that fits. I want t to have 2 12 gauges anyway so I have a backup. I won't buy a 3.5", I have no reason for it. Nothing you can't kill with 3" shells. Matter a fact, I think I have some 3.5" turkey loads sitting around I need to trade or sell. If I buy a 3.5" chambered gun it will be because I found a deal or just felt right. -
I've done a lot of different things, Crossfit is the absolute best program for me. Because I'm so competitive, I actually find it fun. Something I can't say I ever felt about any other workout. We maintain a kegerater too! LOL A lot of people are anti crossfit, pro crossfit, whatever. Find what you like and stick with it. I go to Havasu Crossfit and I'll never stop.

I have them measure me with tape and use the electronic device that measures it at my gym. We have plenty of trainers so it's never a problem to get measured or tested.

Waterfowl Gun for next year
Havasuhunter replied to Havasuhunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Thanks everyone. Yotebuster, nothing wrong at all with my BPS except it's shiny. I'd just like to get a matte/camo gun again for waterfowl and also Turkeys, preferably an auto too. I hunt turkey once every few years in CA on my buddies private property. That old BPS has been a flawless gun for many years. -

My goal is to be in serious Sheep shape by fall. I'm easily the strongest I've been in 5 years. I'm at 185lbs today, think I'll end up around 175. Been running a lot of miles and I do crossfit. I ran the Laughlin half marathon in Dec at an 8:38 minute mile pace. Based on recent times I think I could do that race in the low 8s right now. Around mid year I'll be looking for more events to challenge myself with. Started crossfit last year and it was hard to even finish a lot of the workouts. Now, most days I feel like a real athlete. Feel like each day I can push myself to new limits. Makes hunting so much more enjoyable and effective when you're in shape, that's for sure. -
I'm doing the Healthy Step nutrition 28 day challenge right now. Lots of good options and they have recipes right on there site accessible to the public. I'm down 30lbs from this time last year and feeling great, this challenge was just to push me over that final hurdle. My favorite thing out of the recipes so far is simple 4 ingredient protein pancakes. Eggs, protein powder, bananas and oats. Throw it all in the blender and you've got healthy pancake batter.

I basically just got death threats on another page for suggesting they are illegal in the wilderness and should be removed. It's too bad hunters can't have a civil discussion on this one. We'll be the leaders of our eviction from public land if we can't. Leave no trace seems pretty simple. I don't see why you couldn't use one close to where you are camping for a few days and pack it out when you leave though?

325 grain bullet to big for coues?
Havasuhunter replied to singleshot's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Very cool. I've shot deer and hogs with 300 grain bullets from my 44 mag and the same bullets wearing a sabot out if the 50 cal muzzleloader. More like archery hunting. Doing it for coues sounds very tough. Congratulations. -

My late season 33 hunt starts today. I need everyone's hotspots. Please PM me your GPS coordinates. 😛 Can't go until after the weekend, can't wait. Of course this hunt gets way better later in the season, but I've got to get back out there.
-
I've passed on many 100" plus bucks in these hotspots you guys gave me. Holding out for a real monster.😂 Heading back tomorrow. Hoping the cooler weather improves the daytime buck movement. Seeing a lot of guys post nice Dec bucks.

That's very tempting. Been looking for a companion for my super RedHawk for a while. Suppressed, it would be a real blast.
-
Sweet, budget long range setup right there. Shouldn't last long.
-
Theft is BS and there's no excuse. Leaving your empty trailer there for a month ahead of the season to claim "your spot" is also BS though.

The more I read the comments, the more I realize many people don't understand the concept of the Paleo diet. It's basically the diet a hunter would eat before mass produced farming and processed foods. If your family likes to eat deer you shot with a plate full of vegetables you grew in your garden, you're eating basic paleo.
