Vaquero outfitters..... Ouch that'll leave a mark
Havasuhunter replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in The Campfire
Stealing a public resource for profit is as far from ethical as you can get. 270, you were joking by asking that question right? Or was that your attempt to turn this into a 16 page yelling match?:-) There are guides that don't need to constantly cheat to make a living. How messed up was that to guides and or just DIY guys that were legally hunting, especially after drawing a long awaited tag? -

Should lose hunting and guiding privileges forever. Totally inexcusable. Greedy bastards deserve the book thrown at them. -
Looks like the 1/2 days are catching rockfish and the 3/4 days are catching yellowtail and some rockfish. Just call the landing and talk to them, they can make suggestions on exactly what to bring. For Rock fish you'll be fishing 8-16oz of weight more than likely, so you'll have to pick some up down their and rent a rod.

A good 12lb bass rod is an excellent suggestion if they are fishing the kelp beds for calicos, etc. The Outer Limits out of Seaforth is a great boat and a friend of mine works on it. As BigLakeJake said parking is way better. To me just the parking at the other landings can agitate me before the trip, it's a nightmare sometimes. They being said, it's kind of cool to check out those other landings while your down there. Go into each one, check out the pictures and tackle, etc. Www.outerlimit.net check them out and the other Seaforth boats. They run local trips in winter I believe. I'm going on a 2 day charter with them in the summer.

I've been way too lazy lately. Stressed out from job change, working nights and traveling. Lots of good excuses, but I've got to get back to it. I was down to 185, now back up over 200lbs. Time to clean up the diet again.

I'm interested in the Mosberg, just no time to get out that way. -
You would too if you took the $710,000 spent on the two hunts and bought a ranch somewhere. With small game, big game seasons fishing on a private pond, etc. Tons to do year round with friends and family. These hunts are all about paying for an opportunity to chase a world record. I understand that's cool, but if your paying for the privelage that 99% of people can't afford, why does it matter. To me a guy that kills a 200" Mulie on a hunt that anyone can do far exceeds a world record buck on an exclusive tag.
-
Can't argue with that 5guys. That's what I just don't understand about the money paid for those hints. I like big deer, but good times with friends and family is a lot more important.

I'm looking to go down there for the first time ever. Any particular sites I should visit to research for the trip. I want to fish from shore, possibly bring my Kayak and probably charter a boat one day. Shore fishing for corvina, triggers, flounder, etc will be my main goal. I'm trying to get a few people together. I'd love to get a place that I can just walk from down to the beach or rocks to fish. Been wanting to do this for a while. Thanks

That's insane. Can he resell those tags? Big money on "guides" wages. That's pretty crazy either way, same guy with possibly the two best mule deer tags in the country.

When the horse named ethics dies, we'll all lose access to the places we love. Would be nice if people were more civil and could grow up a little, but a very important discussion regardless.

I have the same setup with the 7.5" barrel. One of my favorite guns of all time.

In case anyone is wondering, since there seems to be a lot of people that assume things. I really don't think the hunters that are arguing for "leave no trace" are out stealing your stuff, I know I'm not. I may leave a note or report it if it's been there year round, but I'm not taking it. If a homemade blind is deteriated and falling apart, or full of trash, I will throw away the trash. I'm not messing with someone's well maintained blind, I may even sit in it on occasion. The wilderness is s tough one, I would like to remove blinds and cameras from wilderness areas as they are strictly prohibited, but I'm already carrying as much weight as I can handle, so I'm not messing with it. I haven't yet, but I'm even interested in putting some cameras out myself. They will be well hidden and way back from easy access for sure.

Excellent advise. I go very few places without a medium light spinning setup. Stradic 2500 and two spools, your good to go. Good back up if the flyrod really frustrate you, which it will.

Nice trailer, but I think I need a toy hauler or I'd be all over this.

A good way to practice would be to chase golden bonefish(carp). Carp flyfishing is really fun and your skill will improve quickly because lots of targets. Precision casting is necessary and technique is similiar, though I've never chased actual bonefish. I know guys that are serious fly fisherman that say bonefish are very demanding and spooky. I'd definitely practice.

That's awesome. I always enjoy seeing the Sandhills.

Sure hope Alamo fills up.it will be epic there the next few years if all that brush gets flooded. Haven't been to Barrlett in many years. Good luck, I love catching slab crappie.

I had no idea that many people traveled to hunt them. I know they are a premier game bird and a bucket list item for many bird hunters. I absolutely agree G&F should not be involved in comercializing any of the resources. Hopefully the added pressure does not hurt there recover. I've seen them a couple times When hunting coues, but never targeted them. Beautiful birds. Some day id like to add them and Scaled quail to my list. -
Does Working Out Help You Hunt Better?
Havasuhunter replied to firstcoueswas110's topic in The Campfire
I change my stance on this. Being out of shape is good for your hunting skills. It keeps you close to the main roads where it's easier to get your harvested game out and it makes you slow down and glass more, close to main roads of course. I'd like to encourage other hunters to get as fat and out of shape as possible. It can only make you a better Hunter. See you all out there, within a half mile of major roads of course! -
Well said. If hunters can't sit around a real or virtual campfire and talk about issues that affect us all, what's the point of having a forum?
-
Wow! Dream trip. I'm no expert fly fisherman but thinking you need a 6-7 wt. I'm sure you can get local tied flies there. Can't wait for the report. Good luck.

Those Mearns are cool birds. Hope there is a good recovery. I don't see enough people making a huge Trek to AZ to hunt them though. There's Chukar in NV, pheasant in the Dakotas, great mixed bags in MT and WY, etc. How many traveling bird hunters are actually out there? If AZ G&F is so concerned, why not just lower the limit for a year or two? I know, I know it's all about money. Yeah, the $62 and 73 cents Mearns quail generate really makes a difference. -
The rental tackle almost always sucks though. So keep that in mind. If you can borrow from a buddy your better off. Talking to the landings will be key to see what they are doing and what you need.
