Come on Bob. You know ND mail is 2 months behind everyone else.😀 JK, surprisingly enough I always got mail fast when I lived in Dickinson. Where are you in ND?

I was always scared driving around WY. Was in a vicious snow storm one year. I was down by Casper trying to get back up to Billings MT. Saw a few small pile ups and many people that blew past me honking, ended up in snow banks. So, for you people that say, just slow down, WY people don't do that. There's a redneck, cowboy, macho mentality that makes it impossible for many of them to slow down. It's amazing there isn't way more big pile ups on MT and WY. My car insurance was much higher while living there and that is why.

when did you shoot your first big game animal
Havasuhunter replied to catfish's topic in Youth Hunters
I shot a mule deer doe with a recurve I borrowed when I was 20. No one in my family ever took me, met a guy at a wedding that was into falconry and bowhunting. Got an either sex tag and hunted that fall from the backpacks. He killed a buck and I killed a for first day in. Been bowhubting ever since. -
Beautiful rifle chambered in a great cartridge.

I've been sick for weeks it seems making my sleep and everything else all screwed up. I feel better now, trying to get re-focused now. Worked out 4 days in a row, trying to do a little every day. Trying to drink nothing but water but it's a struggle when everyone wants to have a beer! Trying to limit my drinking to average 1 drink or beer a day, probably best to quit all together. Total wasted calories I don't need. Going on a month long work trip, hopefully stay with it, bringing my total gym to help out.

Seems a 270 or any mild 7 would be great. 7-08, 7x57, 280 rem all great and recoil less than s 30-06 with great ballistics. My ex wife shot the 30-06 just fine as long as I didn't load 180 grain bullets or heavier. Big jump in recoil with the heavier bullets.

Well said. I support private property rights, but to many people lose track of the things that matter. Lands been there forever and will be long after we are all gone. Only bad thing is, if you allow access to everyone, there's always some A-holes that have to ruin it for everyone. People that block access to public land are the lowest of low.

That's a really nice yellowtail. Take that quality any day. They fishing kelp paddies for those or hard bottom structure? What a start to the season!

Nice red. I caught some in the high teens in Florida, but they were too big for the slot limit. Very cool fish. Nice thing about the gulf is all the shallow water stuff. Had a blast catching sea trout on light spinning rods one time. When's the best time to catch a Variety out there? For San Diego I'd say June, July, Aug for variety, but this year who knows. Strange things happen with El Niño. The sand dad trips of So cal aren't bad, especially for kids. They're tiny, but the best flatfish I've eaten anywhere. Alaskan Halibut my buddy brought back was awesome too. I'll be in Nor Cal for a month in a few weeks. We may go rock fishing out of Bodega bay, I'll post pics if we do. Get some big lings up there making it bearable.

Real nice fish. It's that time.

Once again, not comparing the valuxury of your opinion to mine, just trying to point people in the right direction of Southern CA. I'd love to here your thoughts on when and where to fish off of Louisisna. I have a friend that lives in Gulfport MS and have been wanting to plan a trip out there for a while. That's a whole different ball game down there. One day I'll make it over there.

Yes, that's why I refered to yellowtail and tuna as separate fish. Not sure why your taking offense to my post, it was not directed at you at all. Just pointing out as BigLakeJake did that bottom fishing sucks and is a lousy way to spend a day most of the time. If you do a drop or two after fishing for other stuff, then it's not so bad. Depending on your tastes, bottom fish are not better than yellowtail, but different, they are all good. As far as being and expert, I lived in Southern CA for over 30 years. There were times even I fished Saltwater 2-3 times a week, everything from spotted bay bass tournaments to offshore yellowtail and Tuna on the Kelp paddies and offshore banks. Me and several buddies owned personal center consoles and fished everything within 50 miles of San Diego, Catalina, San Clemente, etc. I've caught 1000s of yellowtail and Tuna, about 100 Dorado and just about every other sportfish off of Southern CA and Northern Baja, so if there is one thing I'm an expert at, this is it. Just trying to lend good advice to people that are less experienced and going to plan a trip requiring a lot of money and a lot of travel. To OP or anyone else wanting info, feel free to PM me. I have friends that currently fish weekly off SoCal, fish the Saltwater bass Tourneys and work on the Party boats. For a rockfish trip, I recomend Northern CA, since most of it is closed in SoCal and NorCal has better fish that they catch in shallower water. Brian

Rock fishing in deep water is almost as fun as rolling around in cholla cactus, but not quite. If you can get on yellowtail, do it. They are great grilled. Some people just don't like fish. Marinaded and grilled yellow tail is hard to beat. I don't know how anyone doesn't like tuna, but my friends that don't like tuna generally like yellowtail steaks on the grill. Myself, I'll take tuna, but dorado, yellowtail and 80% of the other fish you'll catch are pretty good. Only two I cant handle is makeral or skipjack. Barracuda get mushy on the party boats when left in s gunny sack but they are even decent if iced down after catching them.

2015 California Spring Turkey Hunt Opening Day
Havasuhunter replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Nice. I'll be in Northern cal in a few weeks to work. Plan to hunt pigs and turkeys while there. The pictures have renewed my excitement. -
I'd like to buy his 4 runner if you get ahold of him.😃

Awesome. I love seeing bighorns. We see them from the river while fishing sometimes. They are such a cool animal.
-
I've shot them with the longer ported barrel and got to say, S&W has their stuff together. I thought recoil was not bad at all with the porting. Muzzle blast however, I think I still feel that in my chest. Short barrel would be good for backup in Grizzly country I guess.

Did you shoot the one round and decide to get a different cartridge? That is an elk slayer!
-
Malihini got 40 yellows this morning. That's a pretty good boat
-
Yeah, it's an incredible start to the season already. Good time to get out there. Some of those yellows are really nice ones too.

Pedal boats are a nice steady platform if the wind isn't blowing. I used to fish a park from them since they were the only watercraft allowed in the lake. Most are stable enough to stand up and bass fish from.

A small par of channel locks or vice grips makes changing blades a lot easier and safer. Sucks to carry the extra weight but they can be helpful with other things as well.

I'm heading to Northern CA for a month of work. My buddy has property, we are going to try to kill some with the bows and handguns, been a few years. I can't wait!

BITE YOUR TONGUE!!! Having the eairly draw for Elk and Anlelope was one of the best things AZGFD has done. I'm not sure how many people put in but it has to be in the tens of thousands. Sometimes they screw up. Thats a lot of apps to process. We all make mistakes. It's a good system and having two species draw early is helpful. If you draw a premium tag in this draw you can just put in for a point in the other draws. Im just hoping to draw something, somewhere this year.

Hiking alone in Grizzly country maybe.
