Welcome. I hunt with a compound mostly, but took my first 2 deer with a recurve and still play around with a couple of them. I have a cheap, but amazing Samick sage I hunt small game with and a 1960s super Diablo.

They are getting 100-140lb bluegill right off CA right now! Hope this is the start to an epic season, -
Very nice. Someday I'll do that. Thanks for sharing.

Suggestions on 3/4 Day Charter Trip out of San Diego
Havasuhunter replied to Siwash's topic in Fishing
The Captain on the Point Lina used to be a real prick. Well known for saving fuel when going a little farther might get Some fish. Driving around in circles to seem like they are looking, but very slow as to save fuel. That boat is also famous for bullying smaller private boats off spots. Did it to me twice on my 19' center console at the Coronados. I fished with them once s long time ago on a payed work trip too. Yellowtail were breaking fast and the only people catching them were those throwing surface iron. One of the deck hands took over the front of the boat throwing iron into them and bullying the rest of us out of the way. This guy was a monster and a dick head. The same deckhand threw iron at my boat while the caption was on VHF telling us to leave on one of the previous encounters. He kept way over his limit and didn't hand a single fish off to paying customers. Even cussing at kids to get out of his way. I managed to get a few casts in here and there for a few yellows, but it was tough. So basically that Ahole, me and maybe 1 or 2 other people caught them. Counts they posted said lots of yellowtail all around. I can go on and on about other people stories and encounters with them, besides my personal experience. I hate that boat! Things might have changed, but I'll forever steer people away from that operation. There are usually several good options everyday that are better than the PL. the freelance out of Newport run trips to Catalina, sometimes that's a better option than SD too. Not sure if they still run those trips, but worth checking into. For SD, seaforth is so much nicer for parking. That's where my 2 day leaves from this year. Nice to avoid the parking and traffic zoo that's involved with the other SD landings. -
Hard to beat Yamamoto grubs for catching fish anywhere. Get a couple of colors and a few different sized heads. I've never fished Powell, but if it fishes anything like the others CO river lakes, bring some 3&4" white sassy shads, maybe some rattletraps and some Zara spooks. I know friends that use spoons a lot there too. Catch everything from Walleye to stripers on them.

Lots of great info here. I'm building points in multiple places too. AZ is a tough one, hold out for a strip tag or go with raider units to draw. Just wish I had more time to scout. I'm usually stuck in other states working.

Ours is Aug 3-5 on the Outer Limits. Should be a great trip.

Can't wait for my Aug 2 day. Looking good so far.

Pretty bird for sure.

I got food poisoning and just threw up for 24 hours. Can't hold anything down. It's one way to lose 10lbs I guess! Going to start running out here in CO if the rain ever stops and I get over this.

I'll be back and forth out here for 2 months for a project. Wondering if anyone has any info where to start fishing . My parts didn't show up, so it looks like I'll have a day or two just waiting for those I need to kill with a line in the water. I brought my light trout spinning rod and a 5wt fly rod. Thanks Brian

Sorry to here that. Thieves everywhere, they make me sick. Had my shop cleaned out while I was Elk hunting a few years ago. Talk about a shitty end to a great trip. Hope your insurance helps you out.

I agree 99% with this entire statement, especially not caring about the actual victim at all. There's people just waiting for any excuse to act stupid and others waiting for any excuse to cash in on it. I have no time for any of them.

Where are the G&F HATERS ON THIS THREAD? How dare them charge $5 for kids! HaHa, that is a great deal. I think that's a lot better than most states. Really can't beat that.

My friend just got back from San Clemente island and they caught some nice yellowtail. Just saw it posted on Facebook. With Tuna already filtering in to add to the already good yellowtail fishing, it's definitely looking like a good start to the season. I have a two day schedule for Aug4-6. Hope we get on the Tuna bite.

Mexican Fantale, there's a few guys on here that will tell you how to pursue them. I started with rabbits and a light recurve. For a compound, javelina or wild hogs are perfect. You can go to CA or TX and have great opportunity on wild hogs year round.

I love the "lets burn our own neighborhood down" mentality too. Talk about ignorance.

That's really cool.

Catfish courtesy of a fellow CWT member, bass fishing, turtle catching, etc.

Cool pics. That dead striper is actually a giant yellow bass I believe from the color and large stripe size. Those can be caught by bouncing a 2-3" grub on a jig head right on the bottom. Very good eating too. Used to catch a bunch of those in TN. -
300 Win Mag rounds. What would you use.

180 accubond for sure -
Havasu got a decent soaking and I was up at Willow beach Sun and it was enough to wash out the road there again. Hope the rest of the state got a lot. It can't hurt the elk at all and it's really good for the small game, especially the Quail. Looking forward to a great hunting season. Water in a dry state=good no matter when you get it. Spreadout throughout the spring as everything grows, perfect.

I want to reload, I need advice....
Havasuhunter replied to ctracingraptor's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I've loaded 357 mag and 44 mag along with 22 hornet, 223, 6.5x55, 243, 30-06, etc, etc on my single stage for years. You only need a progressive if you shoot a lot, a lot more than me. That being said, I don't bother with 9mm, I just buy that in bulk. -

I have a RockChucker that's probably 25-30 years old. It belonged to my fathers friend that passed away many years ago and I inherited it. I've had it for abort 20 years with zero problems. The savings will come over many years. I also like the idea of reloading because you never know what will happen with factory ammo in the future. Reloading is just another safety valve, just in case there is an ammo shortage, besides the accuracy benefits. It's also fun and you'll take pride in loading your own. Of a single stage press won't do, you are lucky to have a lot more time to go shooting than I do. I load a couple times a year and it keeps me stocked up. Of course, having enough brass is the key. -
Kind of dispels the myth of how aggressive cottonmouths are too. That idiot, caught it, handled it, kept it in captivity and kissed it several times before being bit. So much for chasing you down and biting everything that moves. As said above, that guy is a waste of Oxygen.
