Last day dove hunt
bgshooter replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Nice Adam! I'm also working my way into getting my wife and kids out with me. They're all very excited when I brought home the birds so it's just a matter of time when they're going to want to go out with me. -
DOVE SEASON
bgshooter replied to elkaholic's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Had a great time shooting this morning. Got my first limit in one hunt. 22 doves in all mixture of mourning\euro\ww. Met a couple hunters as well. The pic of the 2 doves side by side I took down with one shot. That was awesome. After I took them down, the guys at the other end cheered like I was a rock star...lol... Now time to wait for the late dove season. In the mean time, maybe I can get some rabbit hunting in with my kids. -

Awesome!!! Can't wait to get my kids out there with me as well... -
Thanks for the replies on the pillow thing. I knew it had to do with breatheability.

Curious why pillow cases and not plastic bags to prevent blood seeping through and all over your backpack? Just trying to learn for when I jump into big game hunting down the line. Thanks!

DOVE SEASON
bgshooter replied to elkaholic's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
My first ever dove hunt yesterday went well. Got 6 mourning and 1 ww in the AM and got another 8 mournings in the PM. I even cooked up the AM catch for my family for lunch to see how we like the taste of dove. Since we liked the taste, I went ahead with the PM hunt...otherwise my dove hunting career would have been short and sweet. The PM dove breasts are now in the freezer waiting for more to accompany them for a later dove feast. Today's hunt wasn't as successful in terms of # of doves harvested. I was able to shoot a total of 4 shells and missed on all 4. I wasn't able to get any today. And from the other hunters I spoke with, it was slow for them as well. Planning on another outing this Saturday. Where are all the Eurasians???? -
Who's ready for dove

I was at my hunting spot at 4:30am lol. -
Didn't do as much as I'd hope last week but did a couple things. Did some pushups and sit ups one night while watching the news. The next morning, took the dog out early for a walk\jog to the park. Went up and down the hills at the park that really got my heart pumping. Let's see what I'm able to do this week. Does all the walking count during dove hunting???

Great job!!! -
Started my kids off with a pistol that shot plastic BBs. I would have to cock it for them because they weren't strong enough to do it themselves. Then moved my older son (was 7yrs at the time) them up to 22LR singleshot Crickett. Today, they practice with a Daisy pellet rifle. When I let them shoot the 22LR Walther P22, I only load it with 1 bullet at a time even though they can handle the recoil. They're currently 7 & 9yrs and I probably won't move them up from the 22LR for quite some time. They don't need anything bigger at these age. Prayers for the families involved on both side of the fence. Be safe out there everyone!!!

Nice write up. Very cool you and your son had a great time. I hope to be out there one day with my sons (currently 7 & 9 yrs). We still have some time to go...but then again, I still have a lot to learn so that I can one day teach them.

Wow...nice location you got there...good luck!!!

How are the Dove's looking????
bgshooter replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
And of course, thanks to you Adam for pointing me the right direction... -
Glad I ran into this. I hit 220 a few years ago and was able to drop to 180 with the help of my wife's cooking and weight watchers. We've stopped watching our intake the last year or so and i'm now at 196-198 depending on the day. I'd hate to hit 200+ again. So this should post help me out. I'll definitely have something to report next Monday or else I'll owe everyone 20 pushups!!!

Thanks to PRDATR, I was able to scout a couple spots closer to my house and I saw a few. Nothing to brag about but i think I can come close to the daily limit each time I go out. -
Apologies if that offended anyone...but I'm glad it brought laughter to az_shooter
