No laser..they are not legal. Good try tho. All I know is that 2 gentelmen watched the shot with 12x50 Swarovski binos. After the kill they ranged from where I was to where the animal was laying with a Leupold 1000 yrd rangefinder and it was 517 yrds. As far as lucky? I beg to differ. I meassured the drop on the goat and it was between 8 and 9 inches. This may be what your rifles do. I know this is what mine did. As far as your 25-06 dropping over 2 feet at 515. bogles my mind. I have a 300 win mag shooting 180 cor-loct with 72 grns of 4350 IMR with CCI mag primers @3140 fps. At 500 yrds it only drops 18 1/4" I tend to think that your 25-06 would be flatter shooting rifle than that. Don't know..Not my rifle

A reload of my own. My 300 Win mag Browning Medallion grade shooting a 180 grn Rem cor-loct, 72 grns of 4350 IMR with a CCI mag primer at 3240 fps. Never had an elk step more than 2 feet after shot.

Not even what I am trying to argue... No duh. Im saying why is it okay for these huge logging trucks to go in and destroy the roads but its not okay for me to go out in my little Ford Ranger and drive them? My little truck isnt going to do near as much damage as these trucks have. DAMAGE IS DAMAGE..no matter how small

I worked for the forest service many years ago in the Heber area. They close the roads and more are closing everyday for simple reasons. IDIOTS that dont obey the rules of going outdoors. Driving on closed roads that are posted, littering, weather conditions, poaching, shooting signs, cutting locks, breaking down fences, starting fires when posted not to, game management, hazards to humans, etc...etc..etc. We have caused, meaning people not being responible and ehtical when outdoors, have created these problems over the years. Loggers are doing a service at times. Thinning areas that could be a fire hazard, suppying needed wood for the industry and so on. They should be held accountable tho if they do dammage to the area. If they don't restore it then they should be fined and a sub-contractor hired to fix it with the bill sent to the person who did the damage. Our rights as americans are being stripped away at an alarming rate because of these things. Next time you go into the outdoors, take a look at the damage, however small it may be, and think to yourself, Wonder who and why they did this. It may have been you at some time.

How did you get into hunting and the outdoors?
murfys69law replied to capoeirajosh's topic in The Campfire
Started out hunting in Louisiana. I was born in Phoenix but couldn't wait for summer as my folks would send me there at a very young age to spend the summer with PaPa. He was a huge cowboy into cattle and the outdoors. At 10 years old I was driving his truck to go feed the horses every night then rabbit hunting after but only if I sung the song "Jambalaya" while I drove. Guess it made him laugh cuz it sure embarrassed me. As the sun would go down I was allowed 5 shotshells for my single shot 20 guage. When the season opened around Dec. and we were there for X-Mas vacation, I got to go hunt ducks and geese. They lived right out in the marsh so I only had to walk about 150 yards and was hunting birds. I would always bring back at least 1 or 2 birds. I attribute this to him teaching me how to shoot and using a 20 guage single shot youth model shotgun. I had to make that 1st shot count!!! I will never forget what an inspiration this great man was to me. He taught me to hunt safe and respect all living things. Never shoot any animal you are not going to eat. Unless it was a skunk that got under the house....lark -
I totally agree. I do have rifles with MOA and BDC turrets. However this one doesn't hence the mil-dot scope. I have never shot at that yardage without a scope that has those features. I am trying to learn how it works without having the "dial a deer" scope feature. I will say that I had calculated all possible situations before the shot. Wind was calm, level ground, bi-pods used, good anchor point, etc... so I did feel very good about taking the shot. I also had 2 friends spotting for me as well. Thanks for your feedback.

Vaquero outfitters..... Ouch that'll leave a mark

Even a private party would have to have a gnf license an permit. I understand that but they are friends or family he knows and are paying HUGE $$$ to hunt his property. He gut shot these elk in PV because they were competeing with his cattle for graze. I was told he hated the elk and thats why he did it. He was quoted saying that G&F did nothing to help him and his cattle were going hungry. Those elk were there LONG before he leased that land I say. The other fact about this, He gets hunt tags for his own property from G&F. Kinda of BS if you ask me. You get busted before and the G&F still helping him make $$$ -

Anyone that disrespects the law and all legal hunters by doing this is should always have the book thrown at them. I totally agree with Joe Hunter. It sets a presedence that anyone can try to do this and get a small fine or even get off without having to pay the piper. I remember the story of the A*%$ hole that lived in Prescott Valley who had been gut shooting elk so they would die off his property. He was caught and I don't rmember what his punishment was but I know it wasn't enough. This guy now owns a huge amount of acres in unit 10 that is extremly prime property with a herd of elk second to none. How do I know? I have seen the herd and talked to a guide that knows about him. He hates Game & Fish and will not let anyone hunt there except private parties. If you are a hunter he will prosecute you if you step a foot on his property because he knows you have a G&F license. I was told this by my friend who is the guide who lives in Williams. What does this show us about how these lawbreakers are handled? That you can break the law and still come out smelling like roses. G&F needs to set a presedence of their own and make it so bad that people won't try this again. It's just like the death penalty in our country. If you are sentenced to die then do it. Don't make everyone else pay for your mistake for years. We must reject the idea that every time a law is broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It's time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for their actions. Ronald Reagan -

Hello all my friends and fellow hunters and fisherman. I'm not sure if this is the proper place to put this. Let me know if I am out of line. My name is Dan and I have the honor of hosting again the 20th annual "Valle Luna Mexican Resturant / Q Bar & Grill" fishing tournament at Lake Pleasant on Sat. April 18th at Firemans Cove. This is one of the best times anyone can have. Hospice of the Valley, or HOTV is a 501 C not for profit oranization and they help thousands of families and friends going through the impending death of a loved one or friend. They are without a doubt one of the greatest charities I have ever been invovled with. I really don't know anyone that HOTV hasn't helped or that you may know someone that has needed their help. What I am asking for is, Anyone that would be kind enough to donate the following for a HUGE raffle & live auction would be greatly appreciated: Hunting or fishing equpiment, Gift cards (resturants, automotive, ..etc) Services of all kinds, Cash of course, anything that would be a great raffle prize, or you can be a sponsor with a donation in cash ($100 for T-Shirt or $200 for Dock sponsor. We will put your company banner up on the dock for advertisment or if there is still room, your company logo on the back of the fishing tournament T-Shirt. All of the donations are tax deductable and I have the tax ID number for you. The donated items will be in a raffle and live auction and all the monies will be given to HOTV. Also anyone that would like to enter the tournament is more than welcome. I have all the details and info for you as far as cost, weigh in specs and number of fish you're allowed. We also have a trophy for Biggest Stringer along with cash, and a trophy along with cash for Biggest Fish weighed in. Entrants will get fed after tournament, raffle tickets, T-Shirt, Food ticket with their entry. Anoyone not in the tournament can purchase a food ticket as well as raffle tickets for one of the BIGGEST raffles you will see. We also have an on shore golf putting contest with 50% of the winnings going to HOTV and 50% going to winner. When the sun goes down a live band for all your dancing needs. This has become one of the best tournaments to go to. Please consider that someday or someone you know may need HOTV. Thanks in advance for your time donations. This is a great web site I am proud to be associated with. Sincerely, Dan PS: You can PM me for all info or to enter or donate. I can give you a phone number then as well. Also as a sponsor or donater I announce EVERYONE during the raffle and auction that has helped with this charity.

Pulling his license for a long time is NOT what this man needs. BANNED for life from hunting, confiscating ALL of his hunting items, thousands of dollars in fines, and a lot of jail time. I am an Arizona native with only 1 Ant. tag in my 30 years of trying. These are the people that keep tag numbers down and people like me waiting for years for a legal chance to havest a buck. I shot this deer in 1991 after months of scouting high desert areas. Put him and 4 other bucks to bed the day before opening season. 7:30 the next morning he was hanging in camp. The reason I posted this is not the fact that the photo is vintage, but the fact that when we were checked in camp by G&F officers Dan Diamond and at the time rookie Mark T. Quigley, They looked at him and commented on the weird antler growth out of the bases. Dan asked me if he had both or any testicles on him as he said that may have caused the extra horns. Well, he had them both and I believe from hunting the same area for years he had passed his genes on as I have seen bucks there with antler growth like this one. They estimated him at about 13 years old. WOW! To me that was a vintage deer. If you look at his left ear it's kinda chewed up. They said probably from a mountain lion attack he survived. Also the left main beam was broken off. I was told he was 160+ buck with the broken left beam. Thanks for looking.

I don't understand. Are you saying that you were on the application with the original poster, and that you guys didn't get the tag he thought you got. Or, are you talking about your own situation, separate and apart from his? To the response above about drawing the 23 Dec. tag with only 2 points, yes that is possible and happens all the time for residents, but a non-resident can only draw quality deer hunts by picking up one of the first half of the bonus tags offered in the bonus pass...which in this case meant having 11 bonus points. Yes. I was on the app. with the original poster who put down the wrong hunt number. Hew thought he put us in for 21 Dec W/T. We drew the oct. W/T

After looking at this for a while and doing sone research i have come to the conclusion that it's a......DEAD SPIDER lark

Agree with dustin25. I have the same gun and it's been put thru the ringer. Still looks and shoots great. Older Wingmasters are the best all around shotgun I have ever used.

I say we find em' Gut em out. Have them mounted and hang them in some ANTI's house when they are not home. lark. Really ticks me off to hear this stuff. I just can't handle a thief. Sorry about your friend being violated.

My friends son Zach who I helped raise from when he was 3 years old, now 35, Put me, his dad and himself in for deer this year unknown to me. He got my info from talking to his father. He made a mistake he said after we found our we were drawn for deer. He said he put us in for 21 Dec WT hunt. Well, we drew the Oct 23 WT hunt. From what I see on these posts, this must be a good area but I have not spent much time there. I was a true unit 21 hunter with 13 bucks taken out of it over 30 years. Anyone with a little honey hole info would be greatly appreciated. I would love to see this young man get a nice deer. He has grown up to be a wonderful father and dedicated hunter. Thanks to all the great people that use this wonderful website.

ELOY! It's a drive but if you talk to some of the ranchers or farmers there and they give you permission you limit out in about 20 minutes. One farm down there is called MountainView farms. They grow cotton. One of the best areas I have ever hunted.

HAS THE TIME COME?? WOLVES BEING RELEASED IN PRESCOTT AREA??
murfys69law replied to a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I posted a comment a few months back about my rancher friend who was attacked by wolves released down north of Safford. I saw pictures of the so called wolves released and I guarantee you without a doubt they are not purebred. They are dog cross and they need to be killed. They were hand fed by the wolf experts for quite some time to try to get them adjusted to their surroundings. WELL..it didn't work. All they did was kill cattle and Dean was told before they could do anything he would have to prove it was a wolf kill and not bear or lion as there were multiple track around the kills. My friend, Dean Warren of the four drag ranch lost numerous cattle from theses pests. He was told many times that he couldn't shoot them if he saw it happening. Finally they changed the law but by this time his ranch had been sold and he never was compensated for them as far as I know. I even had 1 of the so called WOLF recovery ladies admit at our campfire one night while she was trying to catch them, that they were mixed breeds and were raised in the Minnesota zoo before being released here. Good luck to the ranchers in Prescott if they release them. I dang sure will help control the population if they need it.
