Such a shame what shed hunting as come to
murfys69law replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Shed Hunting
I totally beg to differ mattys281. Ignorance of the law is NOOO excuse!!!. There are people that shed hunt that don't even hunt. Many do however own a quad, rhino, polaris, bike etc... and there are NUMEROUS laws regarding the offroad use of these vehicles. My thoughts are, They don't give a dang and it will hurt the hunters or outdoorsman that are ethical and follow the law. Book em dano is what I say..NO EXCUSE for this to happen. -
WELLLLLLLLLLLLL...If it's on the internet .....it has to be true..you can't lie on the internet...RIGHT????

Don't know if anyone has ever heard this but i was told years ago that if you shoot an animal and runs for a while before dropping , the meat can get pretty bad tasting. I wouldn't know as I have never had one run after the shot. This is excluding archery tho. Only had one drop and that was a Javi. Broke his back.

Hunted alone for many years as I had a friend that I used to hunt with and found out the hard way he had been poaching unknown to me. Had to go to court as I was subpeoned because I was on a tag with him 8 years before and they finally caught up with him. He was convicted too..AWESOME.. Anyway I started hunting alone because I trust myself. The rifle that was stolen has never turned up. I had checked everywhere too. Oh well.

3 years ago I bought a .270 WSM. I had never hunted with this round or this rifle before. Got it sighted in at 2" high at 100yrds. Went hunting and dropped my first speed goat ever after 30 yrs of trying for a tag at 517 yards. I shoot a lot of long range rounds with my other guns so I am confident with my abilities. I have a Nikon Monarch mil dot 2.5x10 on the rifle. I held the crosshair even with it's back and the round dropped approx. 8" at that range. I was shooting Fusion 130 grn rounds out of the box. I was impressed at how flat shooting this round is. I hadn't had much time to do any longrange with this new rifle at the time or since as I have not been drawn in a while. I am just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone else as far as the drop and sighting in at 2" high @100 yrds of the .270WSM

First of all, if you read the post it said, A BOX AND A HALF. I had approx 1 week before my hunt to do what I needed to to sight this in. I took this rifle because YES I was confident with the ammo which I have used for years and have set up rifles of my own for many years. I did have a back up rifle that was proven but own nothing that I thought would be as flat shooting at a longer distance. I shot 5 round groups times 5 at the time sighting it in with the groups 1/4" or less apart. There were no flyers. From the time I put the scope on it was hitting paper 6" high and 2 &1/4 left. Dilaed it in and continued to do what I have done for years. Every other rifle I own have been well tested and shot many times before going afield. I just didn't have time and my old .270 had been stolen which is why I bought this one. I am really sorry I posted this. Again I have no reson to lie about this. Next time I will just ask my firends personally. Guess it's my fault for not hunting with friends and going alone.

When the little critter layed down and fell asleep next to my 270. all i had to do was dress him out. Saved on ammo and packing him out too!! Dumb pig... lark Hunted with a good friend. Spooked a herd in a canyon. They ran up the other side and stood about 200yards away hiding behind bushes. They couldn't see us but we saw them just fine. They were directley across from us so it really couldn't have been a better set up. My friend layed down as well as me and we counted...1....2...3 and fired. Never did it before but it worked. We both got nice pigs and the hunt was over..beer time

I don't understand your post. I AM talking about a .270 WSM. The comments about a .270 WIN, which I have shot for 30 years, were in reference to comparing a .270 WIN to a .270 WSM. that somone had made. I don't think that a .270 WIN would shoot the same as a .270 WSM. So your point is what? My post was to get info on if anyone else had had this type of performance with a .270 WSM and was this normal for this round. I have no reason to lie about my experience with what happened. The only way this isn't true, is if the 2 guys that were there were wrong in their ranging of the shot.

I didnt even put in so I bought a Browning 300 win mag and 400 rounds of ammo just in case someone I know does get drawn and wants to borrow it. lark

Thats a standard .270... Again I have never owned a .270wsm. If I have a box and a half of shells through this i would be surprised and that includes sighting it in when I first got it.. I plan on doing a lot of checking and shooting with this shortly. Flinching? Maybe, but after missing a booker the day before, I was pretty steady with bipods and laying down with a good anchor when I took the shot. I will let you know what I find. Maybe after this weekend. I will be doing some predator hunting.

Thanks to all you meat lovers. Some on here I have never had and wish I could. The Oryx sounds great and I did have Mt Lion once years ago but don'r remember. Caribou would be another I would like to try. As far as Javelina go. I do have a recipe and it's not to bad. But remember, you put enough BBQ sauce on a turd you can eat it...just saying.

2nd person with the Oryx CW., I would really love to try this meat. I need to get shot in the a$$ with gold first to afford that hunt. Thanks for the input tho.
-
I really guess it depends on the care of the animal in the field and the way it has been prepared for dining. I have eaten animals that were killed on the same hunts and times I have and their meats have def. had a distinct game taste.
-
Agree on the desert muleys. Some can get pretty saging tasting. I have had some that are excellent tho & I'm sure you have too.
-
Well Matdady, you are the exception to the rule. 3 tags in 21 years is AWESOME!! I am an AZ native since 1956 and didn't get my first and only tag for 30 years. Rub some luck on us PLEASE???? Nice goat by the way.

Totally a D-bag from what I have experienced. The day I was watching this herd of elk one of his workers drove up and told me about ever set foot on his property. You WILL be Prosecuted he said. I asked him if I was on his land. He said no. I said conversation is over and he left. -

Even a private party would have to have a gnf license an permit. I understand that but they are friends or family he knows and are paying HUGE $$$ to hunt his property. He gut shot these elk in PV because they were competeing with his cattle for graze. I was told he hated the elk and thats why he did it. He was quoted saying that G&F did nothing to help him and his cattle were going hungry. Those elk were there LONG before he leased that land I say. The other fact about this, He gets hunt tags for his own property from G&F. Kinda of BS if you ask me. You get busted before and the G&F still helping him make $$$ Land owner tags in AZ? Don't think so. Maybe he's feeding you guys some bull. I stand corrected. I researched the landowner tags and AZ is NOT a state that gives them. You are right about the guy feeding me a line of BS. Sorry for any confusion. I do know that the guy I am talking about was the one prosecuted for shooting the elk in PV. and now lives up in unit 10. I only wish I had a camera when I was there to show the Elk herd that lives on his land. -
Hey 5guys. The green chili is cooking as we speak. From what I am reading, next weekend we will have a nice, hot meal. SWEET!! Can't wait.

I can't wait to see how this goes. Everyone including myself have called these wonderful critters, PIGS, HOGS or RATS for many years. I have hunted them since 1984 and have enjoyed the spot and stalk with a bow or the possible WOW!! there they are suprise. I do however hope you all know they are not PIGS or RATS or HOGS by any means. They are Collard Peccary. I have harvested 6 in my liftime with 3 being arrowed, 1 handgun, and 2 rifle. Since G&F made them a draw I have really got soured on hunting them. With it being so hard to draw a tag for other big game I always looked forward to BUYING a Javelina tag and go archery hunting them. Then came the DRAW. It has been one of the best hunts you can do. They are very wiley and see and hear better than most people realize. With that being said, The only reason for this post is to educate any younger hunters as to the real genus of the animal they are hunting. Call them what you want my friends, I know I will. They are still a blast to watch, hunt and eat.

I seem to think they hired the same programers that set up the Obamacare website.

One thing we must all realize. We already have hundreds of thousands of laws in this country. the problem is they are not enforced like they should be. So what happens? The lawmakers pass another bill and adopt another law that won't be enforced either. So on...and so on...and so on... -
Why not just shoot a .338. That's all a 7mickey mouse is. Just necked down. I agree it will shoot flater in 7mm than 338 but you can hunt grizz with a 338.

That looks familure. I know I have seen that girl on that poster somewhere.
