AZshedgirl. I see you really like shed hunting. Just curious if you do any other hunting..ie.. rifle or bow.

Like they say,,,"Practice makes perfect"

I guess my thought on this is just what your thread says. Consistency. Always do the same exact thing every time. Stance, breathing, arrow placement on string, amount of time you hold your draw, etc etc. It's what I found the best way to be consistent. I am no expert tho. JMO

1991...Thursday.. it was a gloomy day. I had just put in 2 weeks of hard scouting. Saw herds of deer everyday until the day before the the hunt opened. Saw 2 doe and that was it. I had a friend coming up who had never hunted before and I was in charge of finding him a buck. Just as the sun was going down I checked 1 of my favorite water holes. Lots of tracks. I turned to go to my truck when 6 bucks stood up about 100yards away. Hadn't even seen them in the tall grass. I almost soiled my britches. 2 of them were monsters while the others were very respectable. Walked quietly to my truck and watched them watch me for 15 minutes and disperse over a hill. Sitting in camp that night alone waiting for my friend I was going nuts. Finally at about 2am he rolls in and I'm still awake. Told him what I saw and what the plan was. Next morning I found the bucks about 1/2 mile from the day before. 600 yards away on the side of a hill with no way to get to them. I decide to take a shot. I shoot a lot of long range so I was confident. My friend said he wouldn't attempt it. Well I missed and I am just sick as ever watching them run up and over the hill. We went over to where they were and found no sign of a hit. I tell him I know how we can get around to that hill but we need to get back to the truck. We walked for about 30 minutes and topped a hill. I could see my truck on the other side about 1/2 mile away. Something catches my eye in the bottom of the canyon and guess who it is. The 6 bucks stand in the bottom. They had circled around us and we never even saw them. I ask him if he has 1 picked out and he said yes. They were 330 yards. I said when ever your ready go ahead and shoot. He shoots and drops a nice 3 pointer. I shoot and drop the one in my avatar. A huge 6x6 with weird extra antlers. 7:30 they were hanging in camp and the party was on. Never forget that day.

Take that country song and play it backwards.....You get you dog back, your wife back, you get out of jail, you are sober, your trucks running again, your daughter isn't pregnant. etc...etc.etc

Hunting with an order of protection - Questions/Thoughts needed
murfys69law replied to naturegirl's topic in The Campfire
The question I have is........Did you 2 hunt this area, meaning your honey holes, before the breakup? If so then he probably feels like you do. This is my area. If not then do like most on here suggest. if you run into him, smile and go your separate ways. If and Only if he does something out of character or breaks the order then call the sheriff or someone you have helping nearby..To answer your ? tho...No...I have never heard of or come across anyone with this problem. Forget the pictures!!...Just let us know when the pizza party is!!!!

Great guess Sir royal. You have the eye for judging. Hey SirRoyal, after you help Bob get his 350 bull this year I would appreciate it if you could point out a 351 or 352 bull in 10 for me. Then I can say I beat Bob.

I have only shot 1 animal with my 270 wsm. I really think there is no more kick than my standard 270 win. No brake on it. I have a Browning 300 win mag. No brake on it either. The rifle out of the box only wieghs about 5 1/2 pounds I think. With the scope, bipods and sling just a bit more. Sighting this in can be a bear. Kicks like a mule. I have shot 5 animals with it and never remember the kick. Only when sighting it in. I think this is common for most people. They are excited when hunting and don't even think about the kick. Did get 1 scope circle first time I shot it. Bled for 30 minutes.

Stepfather hunting in Prescott 1 year found an old Remington 30-06 leaning against a tree. All rusted an barely looked like a rifle. Hunter probably leaned it there and forgot where he leaned it.

A Couple of New Muzzle Brakes

Thanks Rossislider. I didn't want to ruin a tack driver I have with this brake. -
A Couple of New Muzzle Brakes

That is beautiful work. I do have a question. I have a medallion grade 300 win mag by Browning I am think of having this done. I have heard that it did on rare occasions affect the accuracy and FPS. Have you ever found this to be true? -
no area is hidden, kiddos to you for trying to help him but if he hadn't ruined it, someone else would have. In AZ almost for sure there is someone else that knows your secret spot. It a givin. If they don't then it only a matter of time! I have a few left that I keep quite but even then I find trash, miles from a road. I agree that someone would have found it but in all the years I hunted I only saw 2 other hunters but they were 2-3 miles from going all the way to my area. Very rough country and you better be in shape.

Drew my first goat tag in 2012 after 23 yrs of waiting in 18b. Missed a huge buck there opening morning. Killed the next day a smaller one. There are some nice bucks there. Good luck on your hunt.

That's awesome. God bless you gramps.

I have hunted for 45 years in AZ. Many areas I have found were by getting out and finding them. Harvested 14 deer in an area that I found with 1 other friend. I have friends i trust and hunt with that have done the same thing and we exchange areas. In 2001 I took an old high school buddy I hadn't seen for years on a white tail hunt to my hidden area thinking this was our secret and he would enjoy the info. I killed but he didn't. Kept in touch for a few months then never heard from him again. The following year I see on the news where he, his brother and 2 other guys had to be rescued after being snowed in for 2 days and sure enough, there is my hidden area all over the news. He didn't ask if it was ok to take his brother or anyone else and who knows who else he told. Just decided this was his area now and I was out of the picture. I will gladly share info but only with the hunting friends I have now. Got burned once and that was enough.

If you did Bob you might get in trouble..that bull was in unit 8...not 10

I own a Diamond and I love it. It's an older one 2004 but still shoots good and I have never had any problems with the cables or strings. If I bought a used bow i would have it checked out and replace strings and /or cables if needed. I paid $450 for mine new. They are made by Bowtech.

Thats a great bull. Do you know what he scored?
