Congratulations on a SUPER BUCK!!!

Nice Job Casey! Carl

That is one fine looking buck! WOW! Congratulations Melanie! FYI, jpeg's are easier to deal with on the internet than bmp's. More people can view them and they seem to be clearer.

I could be wrong but I thought that the second tag way back when (after the second draw) had to be a left over whitetail tag. Not that this was a problem. I'd love to have a muley and a whitetail tag in one calander year. What dosen't make sense is that you can hold an archery tag and a rifle tag for deer but not two rifle tags. You still can only shoot one deer per calender year so why not. Like said earlier, the tags are just rotting on the shelve so to speak. G & F...dole out these tags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been using the Slik Carbon Fiber 713 for more than 7 or 8 years and can't say enought good about this tripod. Everyone that has seen this tripod in action out in the field has been sold on it and has purchased one. I also heard about the possible harmonic problem in the wind and can tell you first hand that it DOES NOT EXIST with this tripod. This tripod is $ 239.00 at B and H photo online, which by the way, is rated the number one online electronics store by Consumer reports. I also have the Slik Sprint Pro. Nice tripod for the money and I use it on longer backpack trips but it is no where near as sturdy as the carbon fiber 713. If all your putting on it is 8x or 10x you'll be ok. If you are trying to support 15X's go with the carbon fiber. Here's what I like about the Carbon Fiber: Very Light @ 2.75# vs 3.00# for the Outdoorsman Concentric twist lock wheels for releasing and tightening the legs vs. Levers on Outdoorsman Can use it in the standing up position 60.2" vs 62.5" Outdoorsman It's only $239 compared to $559.00 for Outdoorsman Lightweight aluminum Just as sturdy as the Outdoorman (IMHO) I've had them side by side I personally do not like the ball type pistol grip heads made by anyone. The Bogen is way too heavy and tight and the Outdoorsman is too pricey and still fatigues your hand after hours of use. I sold my Outdoorsman after one hunt. The only good thing about the outdoorsmand is that it is light. The Jim White head is actually one of the better pan heads available. I do not have one yet but will when I can afford one. The best value, IMHO is the Bogen 3160 pan head. It is no longer in production but you can find them on ebay for about 35 to 45 bucks. This is what I'm currently using. Hope this helps! Here's a few pics from our hunt this past week. My friend Steve and I hunted 23 and my son hunted 24b. We took turns going from one side of the lake to the other so we could both hunt. My son passed on a small buck and didn't end up shooting one. He still went home happy to just be out there with his dad. It was a hard hunt for Steve and I. Steve didn't see a buck for the 4 days he hunted and it took me 5 days to find a buck. We were hunting hard for a monster I saw earlier in the year with no luck. We had a couple days where we didn't see any deer at all. Ti was terribly hot with deer only moving a couple hours in the morning and less than a hour at night. At least where we were hunting. I finally hooked up with some other friends Ron and Jason that helped me get the buck pictured here. I stalked up the mountain to an adjacent finger to within 75 yards and ended my hunt just as the buck got up to get himself out of the sun. Ron and Jason watched the whole thing unfold through their binoculars and spotting scope. I think they had as much fun watching as I did shooting. The rack that Steve found scored 99-5/8ths. Nice find! We also had fun watching several Tarantulas! Can't wait to get out there again in January! That's my son Corey holding the gate opened.

Update: Found rifle Young, Az 10/23
cpugsie replied to Couzer's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Two years ago we were the last ones coming out from a dead end road when we found 4 rifles and three sets of binoculars laying right next to the road. They were actually partially in the road. We contemplated what to do for about 15 minutes before we decided to bring them to the nearest sherrifs office. On our way out a guy on an ATV stopped us and asked if we had found any rifles on the road. We asked him to describe them. He new exactly the guns that had been left on the road by his kids. They only had one ATV and were taking the kids back to camp one at a time and simply forgot to pickup the rifles. -
As most have all ready said, proper glassing takes time, patience and experience(sp). Not sure what your glassing setup is but you should have what ever glass you own on a tripod. Try glassing in a grid pattern. I like going top to bottom then over and back up. But, before I start the grid pattern I'll take a quick scan of the most likely spots. Saddles, ridge lines and draws. Then I slow it way down and start the grid. One more thing. Start saving now for a pair of 15 x 56 Swarovskis. NO SINGLE ITEM WILL FIND YOU MORE DEER THAN THESE BINOS WHEN PROPERLY USED. PERIOD. Good luck on your hunt!

I had a muley done by the subject taxidermist a long time ago when I didn't have much money. He was the cheapest at the time and I got just what I paid for. The mount is the worst mount I have. The nostrals were not hollowed out at all, they were just filled with putty with a slight depression, around the eyes it looks like he put mascara around them, the eyes were just solid black with no whites or pupils (very cheap glass), the ears were drummed very badly and the form itself had such a small neck that he had to bunch the skin up in the back to make it tight in the front of the mount. I know someone else at work that had him do both coues and muleys. He doesn't like the muley at all but said that the coues came out ok. Not sure what you can do from here but I certainly wouldn't go back. A good mount isn't cheap, should make you proud to have it on the wall and will last a lifetime.
