    Rifle Scope Choice?

+1 on the higher power. If long range is your desire you should be looking for a used scope with higher power in your price range. Good luck!

    Why do you apply...

Draw odds are most important because I simply like to go hunting. Back in the day I'd put in for late Kaibab 1st, December Coues 2nd and then October and November Coues hunts as 3, 4 and 5. Stacking the odds in my favor assured me a tag almost every year. When my 3rd 4th and 5th choices started to become less than 100% and I sat out a year or two, the next year I'd shift my choices to the left leaving out Kaibab. My second best buck came from one of the later choices and I've learned many units by not going for one particular unit or nothing. I simply like to hunt and will have a good time in just about any unit as long as I have a tag in my pocket and a rifle on my shoulder.

How big does he have to be!

January numbers would be 85" Coues, 150" Muley! I don't want to end my hunting too soon. I like being out there.

    Cleaning optics!!!!

First I blow them off with a can of compressed air. Get it at your local camera dealer. Wipe them off with a camel hair camera lens brush Repeat with the can of air Partially wet a micro fiber camera lens cloth with lens cleaning liquid Wipe with wet side of cloth Finish with dry side of cloth I also have expensive optics and take care of them very well. Never short cut this cleaning process by just rubbing dusty lenses with your shirt and your lenses will always be scratch free. Just plan ahead by cleaning them after you use them so they will be ready to go when you are. Also, use your lens covers religiously!!! Good luck!

    swarovski 15x56..need help with tripod

For standing up I reccomend the Slik Carbon Fiber 713 Pro. ~$230.00 at B&H photo. The Jim White head is great but a little pricey. You could get the Bogen 700 RC or get the discontinued Bogen 3160 on ebay for under $50.00. Good luck!

    Pranks

We pulled this on on both of my sons when they were young. Malted Milk Balls and Old Elk Droppings!!! or Rasinetts and Old Deer Droppings!!! My buddy and I were elk hunting cow elk with our twelve year old sons. They had the tags, we were just showing them the ropes. We put out some Malted Milk Balls near some old elk droppings after one morning hunt when I went to relief myself. When I got back I told the kids that some elk had come through camp when we were out. I asked them if they knew how to tell old sign from new and we took a walk to where I had laded down the bait. They said "Yeah, the new sign is shinier that the old dry stuff." I said, "yeah thats one way but to be sure you have to squeez it." so I proceed to squeez it to show them it's softer. Then I say the only sure way to tell is to taste it. They look at my like I'm crazy... and then I pop one in my mouth. They are coming unglued at this point. Then my friend pops one in his mouth. Then we try to get the kids to try one. One of them eventually does and finds out that the jokes on them. What a laugh!!! We also did this with Rasinetts and old deer droppings. I actually have a video of the Rasinettes and deer droppings. I'll post it up when I get it down loaded.

    Help me pick a tripod

It sounds like you all ready pulled the trigger but the Slik Carbon 713 Pro is the best tripod you can get for the money. IMHO!! ~$225.00 for a sturdy, lighweight carbon fiber tripod. B and H photo. It's great for my 15's. I use it with a Bogen/Manfroto 3160 fluid head which isn't made any more. You can get them used on ebay for no more than $50.00. In my opinion, the Sprint pro, which I also have for longer pack trips, is not as sturdy for my 15's when standing up, even in a slight wind. Good luck with your new purchase!!

    2009 arizona dream buck (133 P&Y inches)

I'd first like to say that is one awesome looking buck!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Nice job tracking him too. I could be wrong but to put a deer into the "permanent" record book, the velvet will have to be stripped off. They only stay in the book (P&Y) for one edition with velvet on. You could always have the velvet stipped off for P&Y measurement and have artificial velvet put back on before it's mounted. The faux velvet actually looks pretty nice. Better than some preserved real velvet antlers. Once again Congratulations!!!!! WOW!
