    !!! 10 year old LOST GUN !!!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I was hunting in 24B about 4 or 5 years ago and came across 3 rifles and two pair of binoculars (one of them Zeiss 10x42 Victorys) on the side of the road. I knew we were the last ones at the end of this particular road so we contemplated for a while on what to do. We decided to take them and turn them into the local Sheriff and then post on a few web sites what we found. On our way out we were stopped by a guy on an ATV asking if we had seen any guns on the road on our way out. Apparently his kids forgot the guns when they got back on their ATV's. We simply had him identify the guns and gave them back. Check with the local Sherrifs office. You never know!!

    Dumb Newbie Scope Question

I keep both eyes opened shooting my gun and bow and it works great for me. It's simply easier to acquire your target and keep track of it after the shot. However, I'm right eye dominant and shoot right handed. If your left eye dominant and shoot right hand, as previously stated, you'd be better off keeping the left dominant eye closed. Have you ever had a hard time getting your game in the scope? Keeping both eyes opened really helps. Try finding a far away target like a particular rock with your binos. Then try to find it in your scope with one eye closed. Next try it with both eyes opened. Rinse and repeat! It's definately worth trying!!!!

    140-130 inch buck

One amazing buck right there!!!! What eyeguards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to the hunter!!!
  5. My good buddy Kevin at work drew the only Rocky Mountain Unit 27 Upper SanFrancisco River Area Tag today. He's looking for any info on where to start scouting from anyone who has hunted this unit previously or knows anything about the unit. He's knows its a difficult hunt with low success odds but is willing to put in his time. Thanks! Carl

    New to hunting. Any tips?

The best tip I could give you to see more deer, that is based on my own personal expierence, is to buy or even rent a pair of the best 15x binoculars you can afford and put them on a sturdy tripod and pan head, and learn how to use them with as much patience as you can possibly muster up as previously said. This alone will help you more that just about anything I can think of to find deer. I thought that there wasn't much of a difference between 10's and 15's until I was side by side next to a good buddy of mine out in the field. He had the 15x SLC Swarovskis on a good tripod and pan head and I had a brand new pair of 10x SLC Swarovskis on the same brand of tripod and pan head. I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY at the number of animals he was seeing with the 15's that I couldn't even tell if they were animals or rocks with the 10's. If I were to loose my 15's today I'd have to get the money one way or another to buy a another pair of 15's before the next time I was going to hunt coues. They make that much of a difference to me. Some might argue that they can see what ever I can with their 10's but I'm here to tell you that I'd bet my entire savings that I would see more deer with my 15's than anyone using any pair of 10's. Good luck with your hunt!
  7. I was hunting with two guys that have the Leicas with out angle compensation. I have the Nikon Rifleman 550 WITH angle compensation (which will range in the mid 600's by the way). We were hunting an area that was very steep. Both guys kept asking me what MY Nikon was reading everytime we saw deer and were amazed at how different our readings were because of the severe angles. I wouldn't buy a range finder without angle compensation. You definately can get by without it (as we all have for many years) but with just about everyone offering it why would you not get the option? It saves time and helps you to not MISS your game. By the way, the first offerings by Leupold with angle compensation were garbage as previously said. I'm told by a good friend of mine that the newer Leupolds with angle compensation are definately better than their first offerings.

    Binocular magnification

The 15's will increase your chance of simply seeing animals by a whole bunch. I was next to a guy that had a pair of 15x Swarovskis and I had my 10x Swarovskis (both on tripods) and just COULD NOT see the animals he was picking out with the 15's even after I knew where they were and put my glass directly on them. I bought a pair of 15x Swarovskis immediatly after this incident. You will miss seeing animals with less power even if you are the best glasser in the world. I don't know of any single item that will incease your odds of finding animals than a good pair of 15x binos. If I were to loose my 15x Swarovskis today I would do what ever I needed to get another pair before the upcoming deer season. I could never be without them!!! Good luck and bite the bullet and get the 15x with a good tripod and pan head. You won't be sorry!

    Unit 1 birds - youth

No luck here. We were out in the field (Unit 1) by 3:30 for three days and never heard a peep! Ran into a flock of around 10 birds but no shots. Will try again in a week or so.

    Win a Havalon Knife

I like the colors and layout. Easy on the eyes and easy to navigate. A lot of great input so far. I like that your phone number is right up top and you don't have to go to the "contact us" section to find it. Changing the Turkey to what ever is in season is a great idea. Add a review option for all products so I can see what other people think of a product. This gives my confidence when buying something new. Two of the bigest things for me is "PRICE" followed closely by "CUSTOMER SERVICE". That's what keeps me coming back!!! Good luck!! It looks great!!

    giant coues deer

Wow! Great looking buck. Congratulations to Ty and the hunter and thanks to Dave for posting the pics.
  16. Good question Dave! I have two Pope and Young bulls that are not entered and one Boone and Crocket Coues deer not entered. I do have one Pope and Young muley that is entered. I love shooting big animals and pass up oppourtunities at smaller animals every year. I wait for the big ones for my own reasons. It extends my hunt. It seems more challenging. I let my buddies that haven't shot a decent deer get a chance at a deer that I might have previously shot. I only have so much room on my walls! I'm not against putting them in the books, it's just not at the top of my list! I'll probably put some of my heads in the books when I find time. To answere your question: I believe there are way more animals not in the book than are in the book. I think the 10 to 1 ratio previously mentioned is not too far off.
  17. That is one awesome buck! Congratulations! Have you scored him yet?

    dad not letting me hunt

How bad is the grade? What subject? If my kids get a "failing" grade they are not allowed to do anything but eat and sleep. With the way this world is today, good grades are one of the main things that are not an option, they are a necessity!!! You need to do the best you can do now so you can afford to hunt when you get older. GET YOU GRADES UP and he'll be glad to take you hunting.
