Fine Looking Deer! Nice Job Shane!
-
Sweet buck! That was great to have your son see the whole thing go down!

Hey guys, congratulations on your 3 for 3. I was one of the guys to watch you shoot your spike! The guys with the other White F150. It was nice meeting you guys. You certainly worked hard for that spike deer. Which, by the way, has one cool looking spike. We went back for Friday Saturday and Sunday. Neither of us took a deer. I saw a real nice buck down low but just couldn't get to him. The terrain was terrible. Maybe next year! Carl

I've used the Swaro adapter for years with no trouble. I like it because the base of the adapter fits right into my Bogen 3160 pan head with no other adapter or base plate. I do think that the collet type adapter with the flip lever fits too loosely to trust your binos on the tripod when walking from one spot to another. You need to keep you hand through the strap and have the binos pointing downward if you do decice to walk with them on the tripod. I walk with them alot because I don't usually go very far to get another vantage point. Just be careful when doing so. Good luck! You've just raised your hunting to another level with the purchase of the 15's. I don't know how I ever did without them!!!!!! If I lost mine today I'd have to finance another pair immediately because I would feel lost without them.

A similar thing happened to a buddy of mine. He was actually drawn for a choice he didn't even make with his first choice having left over tags. He's bummed. He only puts in for Archery hunts and ended up with a HAM hunt. Who knows...I guess he could have made a mistake. Next time he's going to make a photo copy of his apps.

Congratulations Josh! That buck is a HOG!! Well deserved!!! -
I agree that the double is a piece of junk! I borrowed one from a friend that was trying to get rid of it. I wouldn't buy it at any price. He couldn't sell it and it just collects dust now. I've heard alot of good things about the Vortex spotting scopes. Looked through one at the Mule Deer dinner last year and it looked bright and clear. I need to see it outside before I'd buy one though. I have the Leupold 12x40x60 and like it alot.

That's the nicest buck I've seen taken this year so far. Outstanding!!! Congratulations on a buck of a life time. Have you scored him yet? He just might make B&C? Nice long tines and main beams!! WOW!

Have a look at the Slik Carbon fiber 713 Pro. This tripod will run you $229.00 and is lighter than the Bogen and just as sturdy. I have the Slik 713 with the old Bogen 3160 fluid pan head and absolutely love it. You can find Slik at B&H photo.

I've hunter there several times. Some years are better than others but some years it was a field day. Give yourself a good couple hours to get back in there. It's quite a hike. You'll see deer!

33 October Juniors for my son Corey and 33 November for me. Can't wait. I haven't had a tag for two years. I know where I'll be archery hunting!!! Carl -
One more thing I like about the Slik Carbon Fiber is the mechanism that adjust the leg lengths is concentric with the carbon tubes and just twists. No flip levers or T-Bolts, Fits into the pack nicer. Here's the specs on the 713. I personally use the 713 with a Bogen 3160 Pan head (no longer made). Tried the Outdoorsman pistol grip and just didn't like it. I will be buying the Slik 613 and Jim White head next for when I want a realy light setup. I will sacrafice standing up with this rig though. Some good previous advice is that standing up when glassing definately allows for more field of view. I put my 15 swaros and my 15-45x Leupold Spotter on the 713 with rock solid performace. Good Luck! Carl Slik Pro 713 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs, 3-Section - Supports 10 lb (4.5 kg) Price: $ 219.95 The Pro 713 is a light-weight 3-leg-section carbon fiber tripod designed to be compact enough for travel use, yet sturdy enough to support any professional 35mm or medium format. For the Money you can not beat the Slik Carbon Fiber Tripods. They are a lot cheaper than the Outdoorsman, go up higher are lighter and are just as sturdy. If your just sitting when you glass the Carbon Pro 613 is the best choice. If you need to stand up while glasing get the Pro 713. They are both just a few bucks over $200.00. I have several Bogen tripods for glassing from the car or camp but alway take my Slik Carbon for packing in. I've tried the Outdoorsman in the field and they are a great tripod but for my money I'll buy the Slik Carbon everytime. The new Jim White Head is probably the nicest pan head on the market. The only setback is that they are expensive. The Velbon PH157Q Head is a great pan head for the money. Just my 2 cents worth. B&H photo carries both the Slik and Velbon products. Just google B&H photo. Good Luck!

I have the 300 Weatherby Ultralighweight and Love it. It has a muzzle break on it and kicks like a 243. My 14 year old son loves to shoot it and takes it a field when ever he is drawn. Contrary to what others think, I like the looks of this gun and it's very light. Good luck with your new rifle!!

Doug, Sorry for the late reply but your probably right about the fibergrain stocks. I just remembered that they had made them a while back and googled McMillan fiberglass woodgrain and that's what I came up with. Always thought they looked cool but wasn't sure if the woodgrain wore off after use in the field or not.

Have a look at these fiberglass stocks with woodgrain finishes: http://www.shootingsports.com/mcmillan/cat...tocks.htm#fiber

Nice Buck Josh!! Congratulations! What broadhead are you using these days? Carl

Range Finder that you put on your bow
cpugsie replied to punkrcker1344's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I agree with what's said about knowing how to judge distance my eye but it does take some practice. We use to stump shoot at old rotted stumps back east at unknown distances for practice. Here in Az it's a bit harder to do in the desert. I thought the contraption might be useful for someone who doesn't have the time to practice judging distance by eye or the money to but a lazer range finder. If someone can be proficient in measuring distance with what ever means they choose I think it's for the better. The price is right and if it helps go for it. -
I purchased the outdoorsman pistol grip and didn't like it. It fatiqued my hand and by itself without the pan attachment didn't pan as easy as a good pan head. The pan head I have on all my tripods is the Bogen 3160 polycarbonate. It's not too heavy and does a fantastic job. It actually has a fluid in it that dampens it's movement. I've used the older style Jim White head and found that it actually does not have any fluid in it even though he calls it a fluid head. It did not pan as smoothly as the Bogen 3160. Jim Whites latest head is much better but cost's a bunch. Even though they don't make the Bogen 3160 any more you can find them on ebay for around $50.00. If you don't like it you can always get your $50.00 back on ebay. I have three of them.
