    OSAMA or OBAMA

Pretty sad state of affairs for our country if Hillary and Obama are the best the democratic party has to offer.

I think they should have laws allowing the humane killing of wounded animals, such as what you did with the cow elk, which is very commendible, I would have done the same.!

    Distance?

Moral fiber is something that comes from within. Last year I was bowhunting elk in New Mexico and I called in a nice 5 x 5 and he hung up at 70 yards and I could not get him to come in closer. There was 5 minutes of shooting light left and I had him broadside at 70 yards. I chose not to shoot. 70 yards is outside my accurate range and I won't take a shot over 50 yards on elk. I know guys that are very good at longe range archery shots, ( I am not one of them), I also know guys that are very good at long range rifle shots that practice religiously at 500-600 yards. I don't mean to sound philisophical, but common sense is just as important as ethics, knowing what our personal limitations are and when not to shoot. In my youth I took alot of shots that I shouldn't have, and wounded some animals, one of which suffered a great deal before I could dispatch it. I promised myself I would never do that to an animal again. You have all probably seen or heard some guys out in the field that will open fire at deer that are 600 yards out and they will reload their magazine twice while the deer is still running away or maybe dragging itself with a leg that has been blown off, or maybe the guts are hanging out.? Last season I heard a guy shoot 7 or 8 times, and I met up with him while he was riding his quad with a 60 lb. spike whitetail that was blasted to pieces lashed to the rack, a rifle still slung over his shoulder and a beer in the other hand, 9:00 a.m in the morning, this guy is the poster boy for the morally and legally unethical.

We can't have the party on June 14th as my wife and I are throwing a graduation party for my stepdaughter, unless we do it on Sunday the 15th? My weekends are pretty open after that. I was thinking that whatever weekend everyone decides on, anybody that wants to go on the quad ride could meet out here at 11:00-12:00 and we could ride out for a few hours, and return by 3:30 and have the main party starting at 4:00 p.m until the last man standing. There will be canopies setup along with table and chairs, coolers with ice, bbq, music, horseshoes, etc. We can start a campfire after the sun goes down TJhunt2 can be the official beer cooler guardian as long as you let me have one when I need it (frequently Casey - I know some good spots if any quad riders what to bang off a few rounds longrange, I will take everyone up to gunsight pass and you can view the entire area from up there. I have a sealed cargo box on my quad to hold ice and drinks. I will provide various side salads and dishes: potatoe salad, pasta salads, rice, beans, tortillas, chips and dips, seven layer dips, spinach dips, breads/rolls, condiments, etc. I will also have soda and water, everyone can bring whatever beer or other drinks that yo desire. Everyone can bring whatever main BBQ meat or fish that you desire along with any tasty side dish that you would like to share. I will let all of you decide what weekend works for everyone, it will just have to be after June 14th (sorry Casey). Lets work it out and have a great party !

Does anybody know exactly when the Flagstaff get together is? Just wondering about any possible conflicts of dates for anybody attending?

    So when's there gonna be.....

Why would you supply all the food? That's not fair. TJ I was just trying to provide incentive for a get together. If alot of people decide to attend, then we could figure out what everyone likes to BBQ and take it from there and everyone could just bring some BBQ meat and I could provide all the side dishes and fixins.? Late June or early July would be best( before the monsoon kicks in), we will have to see how many people would attend and what the general consensus on date would be. Spouses and or that special friend are welcome as well. P.S - I forgot to mention, that if it happens, we will have a donation box for the Coueswhitetail.Com website, and anybody that could kick in a few bucks would be appreciated. This was Outdoor Writers idea last year when a get together was in the works at his place. Tony if your out there, I hope you can make it buddy!

    Distance?

My longest shot on an animal is only 425 yards, as I could not get closer. Like TLH said, sometimes a canyon will not allow you to get closer, so either shoot or not. The familiarity I have with my customized 30-06 allows me to shoot well beyond my capability if I chose to, however, I don't like ranges much over 400 yards. The slighest twitch, flinch or puff of wind can mean the difference between a clean kill or an animal that may suffer and not get recovered. It all comes down to ability in stalking or shooting. Or in the case(y) of some people you just might shoot the antlers off by mistake!

    So when's there gonna be.....

If anyone is interested we could have it at my place in Sahuarita, 5 miles west of Houghton/Corona De Tucson. I have 4 acres in a rural area with plenty of parking and room to spread out. For those of you that have a Quad, we could start the party early and I could take you out into the Northern portion of the Santa Rita's (34A) and show you some nice spots, we could ride out right from my house out the backtrail, and then come back for a good BBQ, cold drinks and some fun, music, horseshoes, archery targets, I have a big screen TV for those with hunting pictures or video you would like to share. We could also have door prizes or anything that would be interesting and entertaining. It would have to be later in June, but if interested let me know and we could set something up. Just a thought! I will supply the food (depending on how many people) , and snacks, you bring whatever libation you desire. P.S - For any out of towners - I have an extra room in the house, an RV with a couple of beds or you can bring your own camper,, tent or whatever as I have alot of room out here, or there is also a motel 15 minutes away in Green Valley.

    snake boots or gaiters

I have the Cabela's knee high snake boots, they are comfortable and keep cactus and shin daggers from penetrating, but they do get warm.

    New Magazine

I have no problem with the magazine and I am all for it. but I would like you to define which of us you think is a loser ? All of us or, is it someone in particular? If some people don't like it, they don't have to buy it or read it, some of us just joke around with what is posted on certain topics, and some people are clueless, but most of us are mature and intelligent enough to not disrespect other members ,and or, their opinions by calling names, especially when hiding behind a fictional profile I look forward to the first issue, and have a nice day!

Absolutely! Get over a ridge or three away from the roads and you can get away from at least 80% of the buffoons, oops, I mean road hunters.

    draw only deer hunts

Just as someone else said, the hunters that bought over the counter tags before, and don't apply for the new draw units are just going to hunt other units and make them more crowded. I am a two season hunter archery/rifle and I like the opportunity to hunt both, however, I don't hunt the archery units that have gone to draw. If the units in question that have gone to a draw benefit both the deer and the hunter it could be a good thing. I like all of the new rifle season formats, but I feel that our herds (mule deer especially) need to rebound awhile longer before G&F starts to add more permits. I think it might take 2-3 years to find out what effect these new hunting formats and increased opportunity have on the deer herds? Time will tell.
