Snapshot replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Thanks Red Rabbit. I didn't know if anyone else at the gathering would be bringing their quads or doing any fishing, it was just an after thought. -
Tucson CWT Get together on July 12th ???????

I forgot to mention that Casey is bringing his rocket launcher, jackrabits beware -
I worked in virtually every phase of the publishing industry over the past fifty years before I took up ghost writing books for international trophy hunters in my retirement. If you need help or want to run something past me, PM me. Bill Quimby Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that. I was reading some statistics of how many manuscripts are submitted to publishers vs. how many get rejected, not good! I will have alot of polishing and presenting to do.

That's great to see that research in full effect, I never knew that much effort effort and technology go into the capture and monitoring of deer.

Ditto ! Happy Birthday with many returns.

Yeah that may be optimistic, as it usually takes a year from publishers acceptance to the time it gets to print. They may not even accept it and I may do a vanity or POD type thing, the title could change based on title copyrights, etc.? The book titled " A Hunters Quest" is a philospohical journey into the life of a hunter, hunting camps, fathers, freinds and hunting companions, and what we experience on the spiritual side of hunting as well as the good and bad that goes along with it. It is a blend of real life, humor, sadness, and personal reflection through the eyes of an average hunter/outdoorsman. I bought some informational books on self publishing as well as dealing with the giant publishers. I certainly have a lot to learn, as I am not a proffessional writer. But I do enjoy writing. I am a little too philosophical for my own good sometimes, but it will reflect well in this book. Hopefully I will have it completed by October. The late 2008 date in my original post is an error, I meant late 2009!

We have been trying to set up a date for a CWT member get together at my place in Sahuarita 5 miles west of Corona de Tucson / houghton road, it looks as if it will be July 12th. Anybody with a quad can show up around 12:00 p.m and I will take you into the north end of the Santa Ritas on a sight seeing tour, and then back to my place where the party will start at 4:00 p.m., my wife will be here along with couple others if anyone shows up early before we get back on the quads. There will be BBQ with all the fixins, we will have music, horseshoes, after dark if everyone wishes I can start a campfire. The party will last until whenever. All you have to bring is whatever you want to BBQ and drink. All side dishes, snacks etc will be provided. If anyone wishes to share a special dish that would be great. When the time comes I will P.M everyone with my address and Phone number, directions can be looked up on mapquest It should be a good time for everyone. -
Couldn't find anything on snow but it shows sprinkles thru Sunday with high temps in mid 50's.

I know. I was just messin with em. We will have a good time. Just trying to find a weekend that works for everyone, and that can be kinda hard with varying schedules. I am going to be caught up with my work schedule by mid June so I am planning a trip to Lee's Ferry for a few days to Fly Fish, and I wanted to stop by the Flagstaff gathering on the 21st. if possible. -

Some guys mentioned that they will bring buffalo, fish that they catch, and what not. I will have plenty of delicious side dishes, snacks, and stuff to prepare everything so all anyone needs to bring is whatever meat and beer that they want, I will have bottle water and soda avilable as well. -

I would rather have it sooner myself before it gets to hot, but I was giving everyone the chance to vote on it based on individual schedules, unless someone voted more than once -
COUES WHERE YOU CAN'T HUNT 'EM
Snapshot replied to BELLOTABUCKS's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
A guy I know that lives down by Rincon creek, not to far from the boundary showed me a skull he found some years ago(outside the monument) down in a riparian area that was huge, I don't know how big for sure but it was 120" plus easily. -
Some of the reviews I read, mentioned that topo software situation as well, along with problems with the XM weather channels?. I am doing a little looking at the Garmin Colorado and Rhino 530cx as well.

No sooner than I said it, it just started raining!

I love Kool-Aid And I am a firm believer in Global warming. I remember back in the early 1970's when my Dad and I first started hunting deer in southern Arizona after moving here. We used to sleep in the back of the truck or on the ground with a tarp, and woke up many mornings covered in frost. When is the last time you have seen frost in the desert in late October or early November? -
The longer the 100 degree plus temps are delayed the more I like it !
-
We could use some rain down here in Southern AZ, the wind was outrageous today.

Thanks for all the advice and links. I read all the link info, and everything I read so far is that the downside is unreliable gps coverage and lack of confirmation of signals sent and received by those it is being sent to. I am going to do some more research on the Personal Locator Beacons as well. I like the price and simplicity of the spot, but price is not as much of a concern as reliability. Some of the steep canyons I hunt will not pickup GPS unless you have at least 2-3 satlellites overhead, and that is random at best, but that is a limting factor with any satellite coverage. Maybe a satellite phone might be the way to go? If you are wounded and can at least talk, but if you break a neck or are unconsious then I guess it wouldn't matter anyway. I am looking at the Bushnell Onix 400 as well for the GPS end of things, my old Garmin is 13 years old and not that great.

COUES WHERE YOU CAN'T HUNT 'EM
Snapshot replied to BELLOTABUCKS's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I say we get all the boys together and try something like the infamous Kaibab deer drive and push all them big bucks out of the park -
Thanks for the input ! I will find as many reviews as I can, as my main concern is its ability to transmit in deeper canyons, which can be tough even for GPS sometimes. It will be good for me to have and it will make my wife happy knowing that I have the ability to press a button for help or send an o.k message. I need to slow down and spend more time glassing instead of charging up and over as many mountains as I can but just in case this unit or a locator beacon would be nice.

Yep, there are huge bucks in there that just die of old age, or Mt. Lion food. -
I just saw a show called "Best of the West" the guy dropped a mule deer with one shot at 625 yds, with a Remington hunter shooting system with a Huskemwa longe range scope. He also just dropped an elk at 810 yds, and absolutely hammered a big black bear at 425 yds. One of the guys is a bench rest champion shooter, and one of the things they preach is the limitations of the shooter. They are plugging a video called " how to shoot beyond belief " order online at www.thebestofthewest.net
