I've got one happy son now! He was skunded the first go around but was able to get a Nov 36A tag and a juniors muzzleloader 39 pig tag. The hard work for dad starts now! I've never hunted 36A but am hoping to find some decent areas that aren't too rough for my son even though he's dang near a mountain goat. He told me last night that he doesn't care how big or small it is he's just excited to get to go hunting with dad for the first of many deer hunts to come. Gotta love the spirit of kids.

    Hunter Ed Courses

That's spot on ghostluvr. I purchased a license and applied for deer and javelina for my 9 year old this fall and am hoping to get the education training done before then. It's a strange feeling sitting down at the table filling out my application, then looking at the dates and having my sons hunt times to think about as well! I told him it really didn't matter if we got drawn for overlapping hunts, he'll always take priority....we just have to get his tag filled the first day so we can continue on to mine... Just another thought. It would be nice to have a field day date request area on the G&F website. This way people could request when they need a training day and G&F could make training day decisions based on those stats. It would seem that they would have a better turn out as well as it would fall in a time slot that people have actually requested.

I am in the same situation as my son turns 10 Oct 18th. From what I have been told several times by G&F, anyone can take the hunters education class regardless of age, but they can't complete it (meaning the graduation test) until they are 10. So the online training is a real saver for us. I was a bit worried about trying to find a class that fit our timing just right where he could start it a bit before his birthday, but have the class end after. I give a bit thumbs up to the online training and we've already started the training to make sure it's burned into his brain. Not only so he can pass the field day exam, but so that the laws, ethics and safety that he will be learing will last him a lifetime. There are still quotes I remember from taking the class 20 years ago that I use almost everytime I'm in the field.

Weeewwwhooo! Finally drew a December 36B tag. My son was able to put in for the first time this year but found out the the harsh reality that happens sometimes and got skunked. There's a few leftovers that we'll try and get. It doesn't matter where/when/what he hunts, he just wants to be able to finally go! He's been counting down the years until his 10th birthday since he was able to count.... Good luck guys!

    ATV LAW

Jade, My parents have had this conversation with their good friend and Sheriff up where they live and they purchased the bolt down "rear seat" for their Sportman's. It's the black cushioned seat with storage boxes on the side and they were told by him that it makes carrying a passenger completely legal (as long as they wear a helmet). Similar to this one: Cabelas Seat It's darn comfortable for the kids too! Hope this helps.

    Steiner tripod adapter..

Travis, Amanda pointed me to Outdoorsmans for the Bino Claw...I'll be swinging by there in the next couple of days to check it out. From the looks of it on the website it might work out if its' able to hold them steady enough. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  8. I have a pair of Steiner NightHunter XP 12x56's that I've been using for a couple of years and absolutely love them. I've been trying to find a tripod adapter for them but can't seem to find anything but the standard Steiner adapter that has the threaded screw....and these don't have the threads in the front to take this type of adapter. Does anyone have any experience with other adapters that might work? I've tried the Nikon velcro P.O.S. and can't stand it.

    BOGEN TRIPODS

Michael, My father has the Grip-Action Ball head tripod made by Bogen and it is awesome. As hunt4horns mentioned, they can be a bit on the heavy side depending on which one you get, but the ones he and I have used have been very durable and steady. I don't see the Grip-Action Ball head tripod on the site, only the monopods, but if you can find one, they are very easy to use.

Jim, if it's any of our old friends, they definatley weren't hacking the site! Congrats to Matt! I'm sure Bret will do an awesome job on this bull so he won't have the headache he had last time. So far my cc's been hit for elk and deer...which either means archery bull for me or muzzeloader bull for Jenn. I actually hope it's Jenn this time, she'll have a blast! Keep me posted on your results.
