1st Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament
Joe Kauffman replied to Joe Kauffman's topic in Fishing
Don't forget my hadicap....introducing newbies by having them on my team must get me somethin'! And Dom, I'm doing check ins from 5-7pm, I was hoping you could cover the booth from 7-midnight or so just in case there are any late stragglers. We'll herd some carp your way and you can shoot from the bank . Also, just a reminder to anyone not pre-registering that you must pay cash when you register at the lake, no checks or credit cards will be taken. Thanks, Joe -
1st Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament

Dom, Nice seeing you and Cory out there last night. Like you said, hopefully I got all the bad luck out of the way before next weekend! Good thing for auto phone backups, I needed a new one anyways . Garrett got the largest in our boat after getting the motor troubles figured out, I'd guess it to be 22-23 pounds. Not huge but a good fish for Plez. Looks like we'll still have a pretty good moon next weekend too which is always nice. See you guys Saturday! Oh ya, thanks for grabbing the camera, bring it Saturday so we can get some good pics of the tourney. Joe -
1st Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament

All, Registrations are coming in and we're gearing up to submit our shirt order by the end of this week. We'll try to make sure we have enough to cover everyone but if you register before the order is submitted we'll be sure to have the size you need. If we get another 4 teams registered by the end of this week we'll also be adding an additional prize or 2 to the payout. In addition to the weigh in and total count prizes, we will have quite a few raffle prizes that will be drawn after the weigh ins are complete Sunday morning. Just a few weeks left! Joe Kauffman -
All great tips and in the end a lot of it will come down to personal preference. The best thing I've found is to go with what's comfortable for you. I used a separate bow for bow fishing years ago but am so comfortable with my PSE hunting bow that I use it now...my son is the same way. I don't drop the poundage but stay at 73#, a bit of an overkill for bowfishing but it also keeps my arm in practice for the hunting season. We shoot the AMS bucket style reels due to the ease of use and low maintenance IMO, but the Zebby's and Muzzy reels are great too, again just personal preference. I prefer the Cajun Archer Piranha arrow for an out of the box arrow and shoot the Muzzy replacement 150# string with it. I prefer the safety slides because in a quick shooting scenario it makes it easy to ensure your string is hanging out front and won't get hung when you release. I use the same drop away rest as I do with my hunting arrows which also helps for zero drag. Takes me about 15 minutes to switch my setup from hunting to bowfishing and back again. Hope this helps! Get one setup and join us for the tourney in June!

Awesome! Glad to hear you'll be there. Also, we just added a Muzzy Bowfishing Package to the prize list! -
Richard, I have a guy in the Sunnyslope area and in NW Peoria that do great work but it would be a good drive from you. If you want their contact info let me know and I'll get it for you.

Richard, what part of the state are you in?

1st Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament

TJ, We definitely wouldn't turn down any help . Check in is from 5pm-7pm and weigh in is 5am Sunday morning so if you would like to help with either of those that would be great. Thanks TJ! Joe -
Jim, I hear ya about the deck on an expensive bass boat..that's exactly what I'm doing now. I have a design that I'm building that will be fully removeable without having to drill a bunch of nasty holes in the boat. Best of both worlds is tough but it will be sweet! I'll be running either 6 50watt led's or 10 27watt on the front and 2 27watt leds on the rear for that last chance shot. Best thing is I can run all of these off of 2 deep cycles for 8+ hours so no generator noise! I'm cramming to have it done before the tournament but can shoot under the 500watt halogens if needed. Jim, nice fish! Looks like you had a good time. Those waters look familiar . My son and I were breaking in my new motor last weekend and we trolled all the way up in there. We got out and hiked and I showed him the little cove where you and I noodled a couple dozen carp that Summer...good times! Throw some lights on your rig and come shoot the tourney in June, should be a blast! Joe

While some of the details are still in the works, we are pleased to announce the First Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament! As the name implies, this event will be a night shoot and this years event will be hosted at Lake Pleasant Marina on June 9th with a check-in time between 5pm-7pm. Word is just starting to trickle out and we are excited to see how many people are really wanting to get involved. Our very own Amanda and Coueswhitetail.com will be the primary sponsor (thanks Amanda!) and we are very happy to have her be a part of this. Dominic(buffhunter) or myself will be posting more details shortly....sorry for the tease but we wanted to make sure you have the date so you don't miss out on this, it will be awesome! Thanks, Joe Kauffman

We fish the beaches of Cholla Bay quite a bit and the kids always have a blast. I believe the tide there moves more in 1 day than anywhere else in the world so depending on when you fish you can pick your reefs or sandy banks throughout the day. We will throw squid when we just want to sit and relax and catch tigers, trigger and occasionally a puffer (that can be an interesting site getting them off the hook!). We learned quickly to use a 12-18 inch steel leader as the triggers have a nasty set of teeth and will easily bite through when using bait. I prefer to throw 4 to 6 inch crank baits (shallow divers only), usually in a silver/blue or silver/orange which usually provides a better assortment of fish. Just keep your hands away from the mouth of the trigger fish...my daughter found out the hard way when she was about 5. They'll latch on and not let go.

Hunters’ passion for draw results overwhelms website; results now available
Joe Kauffman replied to Viper's topic in Elk Hunting
In my opinion they should have been prepared. I agree that not all 133,000 people hit it at once, but in all actuality even if they did it should have not caused this issue. I'm not sure why they keep referring to 'vendor' since the new draw system is actually hosted and managed by the AZ State Government servers. If anything, they should have been 100 times more prepared compared to when it was truly hosted and managed by an outside consulting company. They failed to run the process thru a true quality assurance process to make sure it was ready for the release, plain and simple. -
If it was your 3rd choice I vote you go buy a lottery ticket tonight . I had that tag just a couple of years ago and it was one of the more exciting rut hunts I've been on. Called in 14 different bulls the first 2 days...but all of them were under 320. The area I was hunting had a high bull to cow ratio so getting them in was fairly easy. The bull I ended up taking the 4th day had 23 cows with him and was in the same area, needless to say I shot him after about a 5 hour spot and stalk due to all the bulls in the area keeping him close to his ladies. Good luck! 3B can be a great hunt! The bull I took that year is in my avatar where the quad headlights are in the background.

TJ, nice pics! Looks like you guys had a blast! Right about where your boat is sitting in the first picture, my son took a 3 and 6 pounder on back to back casts a few weeks ago. There's a nice ridge that comes off the weed point off your right shoulder that is great for Senkos. Love the picture with the young boy....awesome!

You heard this directly? I have a hard time believing that they would have any storage issues from a database perspective. They now run the draw site and storage through the State government servers so security and space is the least of their worries.
-
Funny! That's the same crazy*ss rumor I heard as well. There are way too many pieces of evidence that stack against this rediculous story but at least when I first heard it, it took my mind off of the draw for a few minutes.
-
Dom, I heard the same....along with some other crazy rumors. Funny how different ideas start flying when people get upset . I'm still guessing for Tuesday next week.

BAHAHAHA!!!

Probably someone who's card was rejected...congrats!

Cool pics, glad you guys had some success! Largemouth and crappie are better eating in my opinion anyhow . Glad to see you were able to get on some fish either way!
