Gotta love the videos! Being able to see the smile on the hunters face always works wonders. Congrats to you guys and great video!

mp_moody, persistence definitely paid off for you this year, congrats! I've hunted or helped in 20B for 20+ years and it's been tougher the last few years, I'm glad to hear of some success coming from there, especially for a first buck. Way to go on spotting him wounded and getting the kill over with quickly, sounds like you have a nice pig/deer honey hole now! If you archery pig hunt in the areas you saw all the does, you'll probably be shocked at the bucks you would see in there early January. Crazy how the come out of the woodwork when their reproductive senses kick in .

Nixon Monarch 4-16x50 BDC or Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 VPlex
Joe Kauffman replied to rossislider's topic in Long Range Shooting
rossislider, I just put my order in for the Vortex 6.5-20x44 and will be mounting it on my 300 Win Mag next week. I have shot the Monarchs in the past (although not the specific one you mention) and liked the clarity so I have a bit of Nikon experience to compare it to. I'll let you know how it sizes up in my opinion. Joe Kauffman -
Fantastic!! Congrats to you and your daughter, love seeing the youngsters in the field!

The first hunts are finished and it's been a blast!
Joe Kauffman replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Mullins Outfitters Blog
Sweeeett footage Jimbo! Loved (what I'm guessing is) the Father/Daughter hunt towards the end. Awesome seeing youth out enjoying the outdoors, and with a tag like that! You need to put a little milk on Matt's goatee, I have a cat that would clean that up for him! -
We decided to brave the heat this past weekend instead of fighting the crowds and headed to Alamo for a few days of fun. We spent our mornings and evenings catching average sized bass and our nights shooting the abundance of carp in the lake. The water was incredibly hot at 90-92 degrees at the surface which has caused a bloom of grass & weeds which made it very tough to get to the shallows but we were able to shoot about 45 in three nights. The bass were slow and holding deep in the somewhat cooler water but we were able to entice the bite by slow rolling spinner baits in 15-20 feet of water. Here's a shot of Garrett with one of the larger carp we found. Size was down but the quantity was fairly decent.

Sweet....congrats Dom, still waiting to see if we'll be down your way this year or not. Also, got your text today, count me in! I guess I should wash the boat first

Mule Deer, Coues and Cross Breeding
Joe Kauffman replied to m77's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Still not sure if it's actually a cross breed somewhere down the bloodline or not, but here's a mulie I shot a couple years ago with a whitetail style rack. Big, normal mulie body and tail but the antlers have too much of a main beam look to not have something mixed somewhere along the lines. -
It's only $25 but it's a landmark moment for my 10 year old daughter. Her first deer tag! I'm printing it and stapling it to the back of her mount when she gets a buck this year....swweeett!

Was starting to get a little worried but I just got hit for a $25 charge which means my 10 year old daughters first juniors deer hunt (20B & 21)...she's stoked! It was her first and only choice so there's still hope for those who haven't gotten charged yet. Good luck!

Rifleman, congrats on the 23 tag! Thats one of my favorite units. My folks just sold their house in Young that was our base camp for hunting for many years. There is a good number of coues and mulies in the unit so you shouldn't have much trouble, just get in a ways and glass. You'll probably have more luck dropping elevation a bit by heading south towards the lake, but don't overlook the Northwest portion of the unit . Good luck!

goinhuntn, If you're in Phx, just south of I-10 and 59th ave is Ross Outdoors. It's a smaller shop with a real attention to detail and a great group of guys. They do all my bow work and I highly recommend them. Good luck!

The 1st Annual Shootin' The Moon Tournament went off without any controllable hitches (mother nature not included!) and I wanted to send a thanks out to all of our participants and sponsors for making it a great success. Besides the slight on and off winds we had, the evening was almost perfect with a half moon and great temperatures. I'll post the totals taken for the tournament tonight but I believe we ended up with just under 240 fish with a big fish weigh in of 14.4 pounds! It truly was a pleasure to put this on with the help of Dom and all of our sponsors! Special thanks goes out to my wife for helping keep all the details, money and paperwork organized, she really has a nack for events. Our first annual sponsors were what made this all possible so thank you to: Coueswhitetail.com Muzzy Bowfishing Arizona Outback Kauffman Enterprises The Arizona Fishing Guides Catalina Marina Robinson Archery ....and to Sweet Subtle Tees for helping finalize and printing our tournament shirts, they turned out awesome! I have a camera packed with photos that I'm going through and will post a bunch more when I get them organized. Here's a few shots of rigs and the group before checkin Saturday evening. Thanks again to everyone who attended, the first of many to come! We want these tournaments to be fun and competitive for everyone and we would love to hear your feedback for future tournaments, send me a message if you have any comments or suggestions. See you all at the next one! Joe Kauffman

We are pleased to announce the First Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament that will be held at the Lake Pleasant Harbor Marina. The event will be a night shoot starting the evening of June 9th, 2012 and lasting through the morning of the 10th. After much hard work and research, we are in the beginning stages of what we hope will become a series of tournaments that will not only give seasoned bowfishers the chance to compete and meet others in the sport, but to also encourage new sportsman to join this great hobby. We hope to see everyone out there and anticipate a great tournout! If you have any questions please contact me at azarchery@cox.net or Dominic(buffhunter) at dargenziano@q.com. Joe Kauffman

During the Shootin' The Moon Tournament this weekend we have been encouraging everyone to shoot as many as they can and are offering a total fish count prize as well. This is due to the fact that we are donating all the fish to the Adobe Wildlife Center to help provide food for the animals they are rehabilitating. I just received word that the truck they usually use to come pick up the fish with is in the shop and won't be available this weekend. This leaves us with a problem of how to get the fish to the Center after weigh in on Sunday morning. I'm hoping someone on here might have a dump bed trailer and will offer to help haul the fish to the Center when we are done weighing and counting them in. We could probably bag them in heavy duty trash bags but we'd need some volunteers to help with the process. We really want to keep the total fish count option in the prize pool but may have to trim this out of the tournament to keep the total take manageable. If anyone can help, please post here or email me at azarchery@cox. Thanks

Thanks! We have plenty of heav duty bags so we should be good with a few trucks. Thanks for the help!

Crazybuck, that would be awesome! Let us know if it works out, we're scrambling to figure something out so you'd be a life saver.

1st Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament
Joe Kauffman replied to Joe Kauffman's topic in Fishing
Mr. Smith, glad you can make it! You're definitely joining the tournament with the right team, Dom will be a blast to shoot with and you'll get the experience of shooting with one of the best. If you have a backup bow it's always a good idea and a couple back up arrows. Never know what might happen . I ended up in the drink Saturday night and not only popped the string off my lower cam but cracked my lower limb in the process....luckily a buddy had a spare Cudda for me to shoot. Never can be too prepared!
