I'm with Desrtbull, cept I just want a chance, not a guaranteed tag. IS it ok to just want to have some degree of fairness? FOr those of us that cannot write a check for $2000.00 and no credit card option this eliminates our chances entirely. This one is going to get ugly. How many does it take for a class action? -
Once again the Rabbit is wise. I have been using the dual dovetails with Burris signatures for awhile. Its really nice because they hold well, don't torque the scope and I can actually use the +/- inserts to get the scope centered without using the internal adjustments. Just takes a little time to get them rotated to the right spot.... Only other thing I like is to have the screws re-tapped to 8-40.

Get the Leupold VX III with target turrets and a standard reticle. When you have shot the gun through a chrony you can send the info to the custom shop and they will make you a laser etched turret. Set and shoot. Pretty neat setup.

Remember that the lesser of two evils is still evil. That is politics. Ron Paul is the best conservative in the race right now but he is too far back. Thompson would be good, I hope he jumps in. Romney has the right answers, but has waffled recently. I like that he just joined the NRA last fall. Going to support gun control. Bottom line for me is I will vote against Hillary, regardless....... -
A good practice is to not mix copper solvents with powder solvents in the bore. After using the powder solvent, neutralize it with a light coat of oil like Kroil. Then use your copper solvent. Otherwise the copper solvent can cause checking in the bore. Another option is a very tight patch with a coating of Iosso. It is non-abrasive and will polish the bore to a mirror finish. Properly broken in, your barrel should not copper excessively. You might want to go through the whole process again and see if that helps. http://www.riflebarrels.com/support/center...maintenance.htm

Buy a Leupold with target turrets. 4.5x14 or 6.5x20. Go shoot your gun through a chrony and get your ballistics. Then shoot it at 100 yard intervals keeping the crosshair centered on your target. Measure the drop of each group. Compare this to a ballistics program and make sure they are close. Sometimes you would be surprised. Bullet companies come up with some outrageous numbers for their ballistic coefficients.... Send the info to the Leuplod custom shop and they will make you a laser etched turret with the exact yardages scribed on it. http://www.leupold.com/resources/custom_shop/custom_shop.htm This is way cool. I like it better than the multiple reticle offerings that are becoming popular. The biggest factor in long range shooting is doing it alot. You also have to be able to accurately measure the distance. I like the leica ranger finders but there are a bunch out that are good.

They Won't Leave Me Alone!

When do the dang things hole up for the winter? I am trying to get cleared to put in for the Oct. deer hunts and I HATE rattlers! I have had a couple of close calls, one of which ended up with my Brittany Spaniel's head swelling up like a Saint Bernard. He was a hurting unit. A friend of mine is a physical therapist. The damage a snake does is ugly. It just kills muscle so they fillet out the dead stuff. ew... That is another reason I like December hunting...... -

AZGFD Hunt Recommendations
Hooked_on_Coues replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Wow: First off, Jim thanks for coming on and trying to explain things. You are never going to please everyone. Everyone needs to read the links Amanda posted about the survey. We diehards may only make up a small percentage of the total surveyed but the overall result was clear. The majority wanted more opportunity. G&F is giving what the majority wanted. They also have a pretty good explanation of how they are increasing tags without exceeding harvest goals, ie, earlier hunts with more tags and lower success. It is not all about money. When the 10% cap on NR was put in place it increased resident odds of drawing, hence more opportunity. There has to be a significant loss of income from NR tags..... I am a NR so my chances have been reduced severely. Az's budget is huge compared to NM, which is primarily funded by license sales. In NM it is all about money. With the "Guide and Outfitter Welfare Act", 12% of the tags were set aside for outfitters. Check the draw odds. A guided NR has a HUGE advantage on drawing tags over NM residents. A total of 22% of our tags go to NRs. That is not a cap, but an actual set aside. I wish NM G&F would follow AZ's lead but that will never happen because the amount of money being generated, not only for the State but Outfitters, Guides and Ranchers. We currently have a system in place that allows Ranchers to sell tags for hunts on public land. So, for the critics, remember it could be worse. It certainly does not benefit me, but AZ G&F is clearly attempting to create opportunties for residents to go hunting more. If I were an AZ resident, I would give G&F a little more credit. It can't be all things to all people, but is trying to take care of its own first. -
Yes, I am putting in for the December hunts. My work and my wifes work prvents otherwise, so I cannot put in for the earlier hunts. Started hunting em in December and became totally addicted. Wish they would have left it alone. Thanks USO.....

best custom built rifle
Hooked_on_Coues replied to fisher_hunt's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I agree. Go spend $600 on a Tikka, a little over a grand on a new Sako 85 or a bit more than that for a Cooper (beautiful wood stocks by the way) and spend the rest of your dough on OPTICS! A 6.5x284 is a great choice to get away from recoil. Outshoots the venerable 300 past 600 yards cause the bullet is slippery. Most of the 1000 yard guys are using some variation of it. Only draw back is you have to handload, but you should anyway..... I have several custom rifles that shoot great. My Cooper Phoenix outshoots all of them. How many of you have heard of guys that spend boku on a bad azz custom then shoot it 10 times before they go hunting? Most of the problem is directly associated with the nut behind the trigger........ -
I got mine! Woo Hoo... At least there is one hunt in the bag. Don't know if I will ever get to hunt coozies in Az again... Good luck to all.

Haven't noticed any non-residents getting tags. Anyone? -
I hope the deer draw goes the same way......

If you are having feeding problems switch out the follower to a flat one and that might help. Only allows two rounds in magazine.....

SO are non-residents going to have to buy Arizona plates? hmm... -
That is too dang pretty to carry around in Arizona, at least if you fall down as much as me! I would appreciate updates on accuracy and barrel life. That is an intriquing round. I shoot a 6.5x284 and love it. Good Luck!

6.5x284, nuff said.

I think with 24 you can give away all your secrets and it will still be a crapshoot. That is a thick sombitch. I saw a great buck there last year but no way to shoot at him. FIX BAYONETS!
