Reloading for .264
Hooked_on_Coues replied to CouesUnlimited's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Is Arizona ammo still doing custom reloads? Another thought, don't use a polymer tip bullet on a bear. I shot one with a 140 SST (which has always worked well before) and it did not perform at all. -
I would add in a roll of co-flex or vet wrap. Weighs nothing and works much better than an ace bandage. Just don't stretch it too tight...... Have not found it in camo yet.

I hate always being the ignorant one. What is the deal with 6v? I haven't ever heard of that before. I assume you have to run two, are they tied parallel? Why would they give better life? Thanks

I am getting em for about five bucks less, and there is twice as many.

Got my last deer up on the wall!

did your wife pick the paint? -
the sst would be fine for coues. so would the interlock. sst is an interlock with a polymer tip. the tip goes boom when it hits, hence more entry wound. the rest holds together and would make a nice exit hole on a coes deer in a 280. hornady is a great bullet for half the price of the big boys...

Shooting at an incline or decline - Bullet trajectory
Hooked_on_Coues replied to crotalus's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I really enjoy all this stuff but honestly I think for most hunting situations my Dad had the best advice: "Don't shoot at it if you can't hold on hair." -
Just a something to keep in mind...... A biologist with Game and Fish is not necessarily an Officer. This gal was most certainly not. Definately more to the story.

Found out what ranch i will be hunting for pronghorn!
Hooked_on_Coues replied to TLH's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Atarque has some great bucks. You will have to hunt for them but they have some good ones. Good luck. -
Calling G&F is the right thing. Them telling you there is nothing they can do is the wrong thing.

Thanks Rabbit for keeping us up to speed. I am concerned about the lack of responses I am seeing. This should have everyones total attention. Call people, e-mail, be a pain in the beaurocrats azzes. MAKE SOME NOISE! -
I am waiting to see if NM drew more than 22% non-residents for unit 23. Last year was 38%. I didn't draw but if they screwed up the percentages I think I will write a letter.....

5B Rifle Bull (late Oct.)
Hooked_on_Coues replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
that can be a good hunt, depends on weather to some degree. Hunt towards the Jicarilla and watch out for private. -

George Carlin had it.... he said if they wanted to be citizens, send em to serve in Iraq first. If they wanted to be illegals, send em to Iraq anyway, just no gun.... -
Ballistic Coefficient
Hooked_on_Coues replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Shoot a group through a chrony at 10 yards, then do it again at 100 (if you trust yourself). There are several ballistics programs that will take this info and give you a true (true-er) indication of the actual BC. I have found signaificant differences from advertised numbers, usually lower. Reality is it won't make as much difference as the nut behind the trigger. Actual shooting at intended ranges will tell you everything you need to know. -
The Hornady Light Magnum is the most accurate factory round I have found. I shoot sub one-inch groups with the 150's out of my '06. I stopped handloading for it but, beauty of handloads is you get to shoot alot more rounds for the dollar. Better to have an inch&1/2 rifle you shoot alot than a 1/2inch rifle that sits in the corner.

let the rumors begin!!!
Hooked_on_Coues replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
The numbers have been drawn, but not matched to actual names. They were making sure the hunter survey information (mandatory now) was correct before they continued. Probably looking at Tuesday anyway. Good luck to everyone except those of you who applied for MY tag! -

I didn't see anything that indicated any changes with the current NR 10% cap. Is there any talk about this? -
THAT was funny.

Why tags fees are increasing
Hooked_on_Coues replied to mntman's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Many other states have different prices for Bull / Cow. New Mexico has different prices for Bull / Cow and standard / high demand tags in addition. 4 different prices for elk. You pay the highest cost then get refunded the difference if you are drawn for the lesser tag. If you apply online, like 70% of the people do now anyway, it's not an issue. Dangit Bull, I am in the 30% this year. Have to pay it all. Procrastination got me! Now I have to come up with $1400. Crap crap crap. At least I will get most of it back. NO, wait! I didn't mean that! I am GOING to draw tags this year! -

RR, Do you think the second choice variable scews the numbers in itself because its in the first pass? There would be fewer applications for the Dec. hunts if the second pass was done after each choice instead of on the third choice. Its like a freebee now. Why not apply for the Dec hunt first choice? I don't see the downside because you would still draw second depending on your ranking. Is this logical?
