    Win Model 70

My Dad had a 308 Norma that was built in the same era. It had a micro groove barrel that shot like crazy. Only other thing I have seen that type of barrel on was a .22. Maybe that was a thing then?

  4. I was sitting at the computer looking at Google earth last night when the dogs went off on something in the back yard. I immediately knew something didn't smell quite right. I had the wife recon with a flashlight while I covered her from the second story. The culprit was spotted in the coal bin at the same time he was attempting to target my wife. I took careful aim and put a .177 right through his skull. My wife was very happy until she realized that in his death throws he began firing indiscriminantly. Unfortunately my German Shepherds were both hit and my wife slightly wounded. They all seem to be recovering well given the grievious nature of the short range encounter. The whole neighborhood became aware of the situation soon after. After being involved in this lethal force situation I can only say that it stinks. Ok, OK. Doug started it.....

    Witnessed an Attempted Murder

I knew it was a bogus story. Red Rabbit would have surely taken some postmortem notes to appraise us as to the performance of his chosen bullet. A little more description as to entry/exit wound, any indicators of bullet failure, etc... I would also expect bullet retrieval on any non-exit shot with a full breakdown on penetration, weight retention, and expansion. Maybe a description on the secondary wound cavity and his thoughts on hydrostatic shock (velocity) versus primary wound channel (mass). Now that would have had me going....

    Carbon Fiber tripods

I copied this from the CWT store. Great tripod, light and megaadjustable. Save the money off carbon. Would recommend the Jim White panhead. Makes for a nice unit. "SLIK Sprint PRO Tripod The SLIK Sprint PRO is a good choice for a lightweight tripod. It has a maximum height of 64.3 inches and a folding height of 18 3/4 inches. The middle column is a two-piece setup so you can remove part of it to make the tripod get low on the ground (as in the second photo shown above). This tripod has 3 position multi-angle leg locks so that it can be spread out. It comes with the ball head shown in the photo, but that is not a very good head for glassing. You will most likely want to replace that with another tripod head. The Jim White Tripod head is a great choice for that or you can use one you already have. The weight on this tripod is 1 pound and 15.5 ounces. It comes in gun metal grey and with a nylon carrying case. The SLIK Sprint PRO is $95.00 plus tax and $14 shipping/handling. "

    CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS

I think people are voting for the idea of what Obama represents rather than who he is. He just won't stand up with any objective scrutiny.
  10. Think he is going to be bad? What do you think Nobama will do. I am a single issue voter, two if you count the Supreme Court appointments. The only feasable gun advocate is McCain, and he ain't all that good. Palin is much better, hope she would have some say.

Overridden with the Need for Accuracy?

I seem to hear about alot more 1/2" rifles than I have ever seen. I think most 1/2" rifles really won't shoot half inch consistently. So, if I shoot one group at half inch, does that make it a half inch rifle? Hunting guns ( six to nine pounds) don't usually do that, unless you are either lucky or very anal.

    pack frame ?

I just bought a Gregory Z55. Havent used it yet but it shows promise. Lots of cool features, weighs less than 4 pounds and will tote 3700 inches. Not available in camo tho...

    Nosler E-Tip results

Doug, I have not had the best of luck getting the solid copper bullets to shoot well. I have however had very good results with the MRX, if you can stomach the price..... That is going to be my big animal/big gun bullet.

    Leupold Switch power binos

I have looked at the GR's. They are very nice. Can't tell any difference between them and my swaros. The weight on them is similar to swaro but the switch power are lighter, which gives me pause... When I grow up and get a real job like Casey I want to buy some lieca duo's.

    Unit 32

I am aware of one feller that sued for access, stating that the road had been open for decades and the landowner had allowed a per se easement. Resulted in a settlement where the individual can go through but noone else can because he was the plaintiff. Class action lawsuits get expensive and I wonder how the Landowners would like spending their new found wealth on legal fees. Sportsmen need to get together on these issues because the state nor the feds are going to bat for us.

    Long Range Shooting

These threads always crack me up. Does anyone remember reading the articles on the same issue ten years ago? Back then it was the sierra gk vs the nosler partition. Bullets have come a long way. I like to shoot vld or SST in my 6.5, MRX in the 300 WBY.
  19. Now I feel guilty. Casey I would like to apologize for the whole "goat sucker" thing... I gues I have missed something. This forum is so much mellower than MM its night and day.

    sarah palin article

At this point in time I saySarah We will have to see what the next 4 years show. My $.02 And if, god forbid, NObama wins, she is going to be that much stronger in 2012.

    Sarah Palin

The bottom line here is none of them have any total experience. The three Senators legislate. McCain and Biden have done it for a long time, but they haven't administrated.... Palin runs a small state (comparatively). Obama has done didley and he is the top of the ticket. I am looking at values here. McCain will put people that have ideas closer to mine in the places that matter. I like what Palin stands for, much much much more than Obama or Biden. Palin doesn't represent the traditional Washington crew (like Biden) and I am all for her as the choice. She will get some on the job training where Obama wil be making the actual decisions (which from what I have seen will be wrong). It ain't perfect but at least there is someone there that will protect what I think is important. Look at the overall picture Jason and make a decision based on who most supports what you believe. Seems a simple choice to me.
