    7 mag velocity

Look at a program called "Quick Load". Most comprehensive reloading program I have seen.

    .

You can calibrate the reticle to the specific gun/load by doing this: 1. sight in at 200 2. Set up at 500 with large target, hold on 500 yard bull with 200 yd reticle, shoot group 3. Hold your 200 reticle on bull and adjust power setting until 500 yd reticle comes into group. 4. Mark the power ring at that spot with a paint pen and turn it to that power whenever using reticles other than 200. This will bring all your reticles into calibration but you still should go out and shoot some groups at each range tio verify. Remeber that you have to have the rifle perfectly level when shooting multiple reticles. A slight cant will put you off target quite a bit at extended ranges.

    Hoppes #9 for copper fouling?

Try "Iooso". Hoppes 9 is for carbon fouling.

    leupold (cds) scope

I just bought one. glass is beautiful. Just shot the thing to get my velocity, called it in and after waiting 15 minutes a nice lady took th e info and said the new etched turret would be on its way. I am curious though, as to why they did not make it available on a scope with parallax adjustment. Seems the two would kinda go together. Having put on 6.5x20LR by the custom shop. Should know more in a couple weeks. I like the fact that I only have one reticle to look at and it is not necessary to have it set at a cetain magnification like my varmit hunter reticles.

    Long range shooting

Doug, Could you run the ballistics on the 6.5 with a 140 berger going 3050fps? I am curious to see the difference with the big boys guns.

300 win mag or 300 wsm?!?

sorry, I did jack the thread. Why would the drift be that much different when your bc is so high? Seems the 1000 guys would be shooting the big uns if they were getting blown around alot. Have you shot the Nosler AB 140 gr.? Curiuos as to how the accuracy is going to be there...

RR; How is that 6.5 Whizbang working out for ya?

    Native Resident proposal

Wow. Isn't 90% of the tags guaranteed for residents (plus however many draw into the 10%) enough? Maybe you should increase the number of tags to native americans because they have been here the longest....

    What rifle is better!!!

look at the .308, then compare it to the .260 remington. not saying the 308 cant perform at distance, just others do the same thing more efficiently.

    What rifle is better!!!

Look at the new sako A7. 5 shots in one inch guarantee. Little nicer than a Tikka. Morph between a sako 85 and a tikka, nice result. 308 would shoot great. I wouldn't be liking it too much for long range hunting tho....maybe out to 450. If you want to shoot farther get a slicker bullet.

    Fouled barrel??

Depends on the rifle. Very subjective.

    .257/.300 Win Mag

I am very intriqued with the 6.5 Lapua. 257 - Look at the forums at longrangehunter.com on the round. Saw a rifle that Accuracy International (tactical) built and it was shooting in the ones and twos. I want to put together a rifle for sniper challenge matches and am leaning toward this round pretty hard, just dont know if the 6.5 WSMer wouldn't be better if the barrel held up. I don't know about 2000 rounds, keep me informed. I have two 6.5x284's but less than 500 rounds through either. No reference there. I think hot loading hurts too. Look at what happened to the .264 mag as a sporting round...Dont think that was from rapid firing. Thanks Doug

    .257/.300 Win Mag

RR, I have been curious as to how that barrel is holding up on your 6.5 WiSMbang. Been trying to decide if I want to go that way or back up to a 6.5 Lapua for my next project rifle...

    Graduation gift

Casey, Congrats on your promotion from subhuman. Time to go to work for a living... Nice rig, +1 on the rail extension. http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=151&parents=69,159 Allows you to mount the scope just forward of the charging handle.

    Nosler 6.5 bullet

I see where they are going to produce the Accubond in a 140 gr 6.5 caliber. Anyone heard release dates?

    Rangefinder case

I have the old style Lieca rangefinder (LRF 1200) and the case is a P.O.S. Does anyone know where to buy a nice case that this thing will fit into? I want something that offers some protection and has a belt loop.

    Rangefinder case

Doug: I looked at those and I really like the way they are made, but the dimensions worry me. I think it is a little too small for the LRF model. Coosefan: Thanks, that is a smokin deal, but I was looking for something I could hang on my pack-belt. Too much stuff hanging round my neck...

Boy's first big game rifle, suggestions?

Here is some comparative ballistics at 600 yards (way past what 99% of people should shoot IMHO): 270 Winchester: (130 grain Nosler BT @ 3000fps) yards - 600 drop - 58.5 in velocity - 1961 10mph crosswind drift - 25.2 .260 Remington: (130 grain Nosler BT @2800) yards - 600 drop - 64.8 velocity - 1906 10mph crosswind drift - 24.1 Recoil: .270 - 8 pound rifle - 16.5 lbs. .260 - 7.5 pound rifle - 13 lbs Both are pretty darn close. They are also inherently accurate. The sectional density on the .26 caliber 140 gr is .287, the 270 with a 150 gr. is .279. A 140gr. premium bullet will get great penetration. I would not hesitate to shoot a cow elk with one. I grew up shooting Dad's guns. They didn't fit right so they kicked more. Remington chambers the 260 in a youth model that will fit a kid. Well, I spent way more than my $.02 on this topic, sorry. I am just trying to bust out of my paradigm that what worked for me will be good for my boy. I think there are better options out there...

Boy's first big game rifle, suggestions?

Do I think the 270 Wizmer will kick more than a 7-08? Yes. Depending on the gun and the stock setup it could kick ALOT harder. You can shoot a reduced load in the 270, but you can also reduce the 7-08. I would still look at the .260.....

Boy's first big game rifle, suggestions?

Good grief guys! He said the kid is 12! The 7-08 is a great choice for a kid. I really like the .260 Remington. 257 Roberts is a nice round but maybe too lite for elk. Get him something sized for him now and look at the whiz-bangs when he gets older.

    Win 270 needs help

I took on a similar project a couple years ago with my Wife's Dad's ole 270. Beat to heck front to back. I took it out of the stock and refinished it, put on a Pachmeyer white line pad ($60). Took the barrled action to my smith and he trued the action ($125) checked the bore and cut a new crown ($60). Had him reblue and bed the action ($250). Shoots like a champ. Your 500 buck would get this done and then your boy has the honor of carrying your rifle. Much better than a new whiz-bang... I think alot of the barrels that are "shot out" are like RR said and need a little TLC.

    Christmas present

My smith charges $175 for pillar bedding. That is the first thing I would try along with floating the barrel.
