Amanda-Yes, that is a shed that I picked up on my way down to the bear. It was a smaller 6-pt. Good eye! Couse n Sheep- this bear was a sow. I thought it was a boar when I first spotted it. Not quite sure how to tell before the shot. I just watched it for a while before I shot to make sure there were no cubs. Thank you guys for the great comments!

Predator Hunting Contest
anthonyrmatthews replied to AzTrapper's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Well....this is sounding very interesting. Just my two cents worth: I don't think a fox should be worth more points than a coyote, I think they should be the same. Foxes definately aren't harder to call than a coyote. Also, what about checking in atleast the last day? Another idea is all the money going back as payoffs, but trying to get somebody to donate some items that raffle tickets can be sold for? The money raised thru the raffle tickets could be a fundraiser for this great site! These are just some of my opinions from my experiences of doing these hunts. Let me know and I will be there as long as its not the first weekend of December- Entered in the World Championships that weekend. -
WELCOME to a GREAT site!!!

Ohh yeah, Quad tracks everywhere, you a-holes are putting everyones right to shed hunt in jeopardy! Plus makeing our woods look like crap, you suck - and you people know it. probly don't find many sheds either, running the baja 1000 and all. Keep shed hunting legal people! pretty soon we'll be one of those states with "shed hunting seasons" . Especially at the rate you people are trashing the woods! then you'll need a permit, license, . then maybe they'll outlaw it alltogether , will you idiots be happy then? just speekin my mind thats still legal isn't it? +1 to that-Thanks for speaking your mind!

ATV's, Quads, Four Wheelers, & shedhunting

I have to agree!!! There is nothing that ticks me off more that making an hour hike into somewhere with that feeling of knowing you're going to have a good day of finding sheds, then seeing fresh quad tracks that grid the area already. It makes me sick to my stomach everytime. I have a couple of quads, but use them legally if at all. I do all of my shed hunting by foot! Thanks for the post! -
Well, the reason I was surrounded was because I was up high on a mountain and in the thick stuff. The trail that I was sitting on was the same trail that they were using. When they popped over the top of the mountain, there I was sitting glassing. There was no way for me to avoid the situation. I was facing the edge of a huge drop-off and they were surrounding me on the other three sides. I don't think had they seen me that they would have intentionally walked to me, but the way it happened they were on top of me. They all made sure to shake my hand, but I was still very scared. I would rather hunt by myself than not hunt at all, it is just too bad I had to feel that way when I was out enjoying the tag I had drawn. The BP told me that with the Minute Men out it had pushed most of the traffic up high, and that was why I was getting into this problem. I knew that the Illegals were down low, just never had too much trouble with them up this high. Thank you guys for listening to my story!

I have to admit, I was thinking to myself about what I could possibly do? I had one of them straddling my gun and they were asking if I had problems with them. I said "No problems, just want to hunt deer. You guys go!" I was in a pretty bad situation, and am thinking twice about going there again. I love that hunt, but it was scary! They offered me "smoke" to not tell "Policia". I told them to just leave with no problems. I agree that I was lucky that nothing happened to me! It sucks that we have to have these types of situations happen to us. I felt really helpless with them surrounding me like that!

TRAIL CAMERA

Well, this is my two cents worth. I am sure there are some that will disagree, but I am not here to argue with anybody. Just wanted to let you know how I felt on this subject: We live in a day of technological advancement. I think the cams are just another part of technology that we should take advantage of if we so choose to. A lot of people are scared of change, and that is fine if that is what you choose. I personally use my cams to scout an area. I have never hunted in a place that I have put my cams, just use them to help me to see if there is something in the area that I would want to put time into scouting and hunting. Most of my cams go into units that I don't have a tag for anyway, since I don't get these 'trophy' tags ever anyways. I think by using cams it helps those of us who cannot afford to spend the three dollars a gallon on fuel to be at that spot every single day. Before these cams came out and in the "old days" we didn't have to pay these high of prices on fuel either. Just a point to ponder. I come across people all the time that are wanting to do it the "old way" and not willing to change. That is fine, just don't get upset with me when I choose to use the technology that we have to make my job better. Hope I haven 't offended anybody here, just wanted to share my thoughts. -
I can't wait to get out and use muzzleloader this year! Out scouting all the time, and enjoying this rain!!!
