Got 21 mule in a few days. Leaving Thursday with a new approach. Taking the ranger as far east as I can drive from Dugas, taking the pack loaded up and waking out. I need to get away from the roads this trip- found some really good areas I’m hoping will be good for me this time. it’s pretty interesting trying to pack for this- usually I have a base camp with everything I need. Now I find myself going over the gear - do I really wanna carry this for a few days? Usually the answer is no… not so much. Going lite and fast. We’ll see how it turns out.

Saw an article today. Apparently it’s live. Those with the 14 can now use the SOS text anywhere in the US to connect to the satellite system for 911. If you don’t have signal, you can text emergency services. Big game changer for those who don’t have a garmin. If you’re thinking about upgrading, that’s a good reason.

I'll take a case Phil! PM me when you can.

Wow, not what I expected. I kinda found them, but not nearly in the numbers I expected. We'll see what the rifle bull hunt does to them, and what kind of weather is expected early Dec. Hope to get up there this weekend and scout more east of the 89. Most of the water holes were full... don't see myself sitting water on this hunt though.

Day 5. Haven’t seen one elk- 7 deer, 22 turkeys and a javelina we named “Chad”. Always fun to hunt 7E though. Except the wind.

Just ordered at Tractor Supply for my CO Cylinder. Will play with the settings on the stove and see if I can get it to burn at least most of the night. Also bought a 1 burner propane top as a backup. Hate getting smoked out of the Alaknak in 5 degrees..

So it was a fantastic hunt. Never tagged out. Hunted 6 of 7 days.. saw some nasty storms I didn’t think would be that bad. Saw Muley doe at all locations. (About 50 for the hunt) Never saw a buck or a coues. (or Bear for that matter, apparently I was camping on the troubled bear release site for a few nights and that was a heck of a conversation with a passerby) A lot of alone time. Glorious nights and views. Even had a guy at one point get off his quad and say “you look just like your picture” and handed me my drivers license and credit card. (The nicest guy in the world) I walked alot deep into the Pine Wilderness, moved to Grapevine Mesa and then New River Mesa- and deer were in abundance once you left the roads, just nothing with horns. I think I need to upgrade to some Vortex Kaibabs- some deer at 400 yards were hard to glass. Great hunt. Wish I had more time.

Had a chance to hit the area yesterday. Brought the Ranger. The water is unbelievable. Put on about 5 miles. Should have brought my water wings. I imagine every water hole is filled. The 6 I hit were practically overflowing. Sign everywhere. Didn't see elk till 5:30. I'm hoping it dries out a little before this kicks off, all I see are umbrellas in the forecast app for the next week.

Wired it!! Haha I'll weld it later..

Might need to find a welder first.

Drying out.. Looks dry-ish for the week. Will spend 4,5,6th up top to do last minute scouting. Wife is doing 2 hours a day in practice. God I can't wait.

There be deers. I live in 21. I get glimpses!

I heard they blocked off the flats- god I hope that isn't true.

21 Mule. Let the scouting begin!

12AW or 21 Mule.. I didn't get an alert though, had to go in and check.

Wind was insane! Had to find an inlet and use the trees as a breaker.
