I like to go into those stores and check stuff out and spend money, but its not worth living in the valley for. I like safford much better. I live in the middle of town and I can be at the edge of town hunting quail in about 5 minutes and deer in about 20.

What do you guys shoot and why?

It was on the topic of Horses or Mules? I am sure that is 27. Nice bull. I have been chasin elk in those canyons for years.

Hey DesertSheep, There is a picture of you on this site with a bull elk, did you shoot it in Unit 27?

Do you know of any place that will let you actually shoot the rifles before you shoot them?? I would hate to buy one and then not be satisfied with it.

Thanks for the responses. Nice hearing what everyone has to say. I have always archery hunted elk but never rifle. One more vote for the .308, though. My dad shot this bull about 4 years ago what we thought was about 450 yards and all of us were pretty impressed with him and the rifle, not that it was unusual for my dad, he is a great shot. We spotted 8 bulls on a hillside on the Nov. hunt, my dad slid off the saddle of his mule, swung up and shot. The bull was dead before he hit the ground. Nice 6x6, about 340 inches, actually all of them were nice bulls. Last year he drew the same tag and we were glassing the same hillside but since then I had purchased a rangefinder. I took it out and was messing with it and I ranged exactly the point he was standing to where the bull was and it ranged at 612 yards. I thought my range finder was off or broken so I verified it with my cousins the next day and sure enough, well, his said 610. All those years who knows how far we've been shooting. My dad has killed about 5 bulls with that .308 and none of them closer than 300 yds and only 1 of them took about 10 steps before he fell over dead, the others dropped in their tracks. Nice bulls, all of them 6x6's. He went back to camp and Me and my brother packed out all of them. By the way my dad shoots through a $25 - 4 power tasco scope he bought from Yellow Front about 20 years ago. I have a nicer one on my BB gun. Pretty funny.

What about a .308 or 30-06??? I don't want a heavy rifle or one that is gonna knock the crap out of me every time I shoot. My dad has shot a Model 99 Winchester lever action .308 his whole life and I has shot a number of bulls with it.

i shot the bull in my avatar pic last year with the rocket steelhead 100. He was broadside and I hit him in the dead center of 1 of his rib bones. the broadhead broke that rib in two and proceeded through him and broke the exact same rib on the other side of him and stuck out of him about 1 inch. I was very pleased. the reason i chose those broadheads was because of their accuracy and ability to fly exactly like your field points. Doesn't matter what broadhead you use if you can't hit him in the vitals. Go for the lungs!!! I really like the way those rocket sidewinders look I bet they would be devastating on an elk with those new bone crushing pathfinder tips.

I would take peloncillo's advice. I have hunted 30B quite a few times and have had some luck in those areas. Pretty sparse though! That is some pretty nasty country to try to pack out a deer in. Mules would be best. There is a trail that goes up that huge rocky hillside on the north side of the road that comes out near Winwood. Rough, Rough, Rough country. Have seen quite a few small bucks in there.

I thought that if you were present when a wolf was attacking someone, yourself or your pet that you were legally within your boundaries to shoot that wolf. Anyone know that for sure? If so I am taking a bunch of poodles hunting with me.........just kidding!

I drew an antelope tag in 2C a couple of years ago. There were only 10 tags available in this unit and I drew one with no bonus points. Lucky me!! That's not the point. Since there only a few of us hunting in a small unit I had the opportunity to meet all 10 I thought. On the second day of the hunt I downed a buck and took him to the trappers den in Show low and found that there were quite a few other fresh antelope heads on the ground, I started looking at the tags for no particular reason and saw that there were 3 tags on that said DIRECTOR ISSUE 1, 2, and 3. Maybe those were some of the people that had mess ups on the applications due to the G and F.

I find it really hard to think that some of you think the G and F are running a money scam or are greedy. Do you guys go to commission meetings and voice your opinions???????? I do!!! If you don't then you have nothing to complain about. The cost of everything is going up, up, up!!! EVERYTHING!!!! It costs quite a bit of money to keep wardens, biologists, interns etc. in the field doing their job. If you knew how much they got paid I think you would change your mind, they do it because they love it, not for the money. Maybe they aren't doing the best jobs on the drawing but they are still doing it. What if it stopped????? I would be devastated. I love elk hunting and have packed out about 30 of them, only 1 of them my own.

I have a number of family members who are employed with the Game and Fish department. I spoke with my brother (GAME WARDEN) and he says that CC hits do not mean anything yet. They cannot just charge everyone at once. There are quite a few days in between for processing. HUNTERS UNITE.... LET US NOT LOSE HOPE!!

a guide did an appraisal on my house. He waited 2 weeks to cash my 400 dollar check until yesterday! I think he did that on purpose.
