I did not know you could use the stud adaptor. Where'd you find it? I bought the strap and used it less than ten times before the rubber split and broke.

    Leica 12x50s for sale

palivs2hunt, Sorry I have a set of 10x42's luvdemcoues, yes they need the adapter with the strap. In almost any situation these are brighter and more clear than 15 swaro's. They collect more light. Inside of 600 yards of IMO these have more definition than the swaro 15's.

    Archery Elk Hunt

I have used a few different broadheads on elk. The mechanicals fly better but fixed seem to do more damage. Everyone speaks to shot placement. If you can't get fixed to fly right or accurate then you should shoot mechanicals. I plan on trying a few different fixed broadheads this year (unit 1 archery bull). Starting with slick tricks, wac ems, cabelas copperheads. Killed elk with rocky moutain razors, rocky mountain titaniums, and rocket steelheads. Clearly more damage with fixed, but steelheads sure dumped a lot of blood too. Keep us posted. I am also curious on what everyone will use. Has anyone shot cabelas copperheads?? Good luck.

    Long range rigs

I am trying to build a long range / saddle / be able to carry all day rifle. How much weight is too much too carry all day? The bigger, heavier setups are nice when you are lying down on a bipod getting ready to shoot at an unsuspecting animal (i.e. the perfect set up). What about when you are walking or riding down the trail and something gets brushed out and is on the move? Are some of these rigs too big to whip out of your backpacks or saddle scabbard and take a good shot? I am interested in the Remington sendero in the 7mm, but it may be too heavy for my likes. Anyone know how much the gunwerks LR-1000 weighs? I know how much they cost!!! yikes! Is there a happy medium?

    Long range rigs

First of all, if you want a "1000 elk or coues rig" and you only shoot 100-200 rounds a year you need to atleast triple the amount of rounds you shoot. There is no way in helll you can consistently kill out to 1000 only shooting 5-10 boxes of shells a year! I shoot more than that on a dozen coyotes every winter! I agree 100-200 shots per year is probably not enough, I envy the fact that you have that much time to enjoy your passion. I used to think making a 500 yard kill shot was crazy , But now i'm very confident at that range. Now I want to take that out to 1000 yards. And believe me I know, there is a HUGE difference between 500 and 1000 yards, I will need to find more time to put in behind the gun ,before I have 100% confidence at that range.Thats why I am also looking into the 338 edge with a nightforce scope. Also as you guys all know, that just becouse some bum goes out and buys himself a high dollar long range rifle, does not make him instantly a long range hunter capable of dropping an animal with one shot. But i'm going to work my way up to it. There are 5 or 6 of you guys on this particular thread who know more about this stuff than I do , Thats why i'm learning what i can from your posts. My brother thinks i'm crazy to be spending this kinda money ( he says just sneak in closer like a real hunter). But he also knows that a few years ago I missed a chance of a lifetime on a huge coues because my only shot was over 700 yards, Thats when this crazy passion began! By the way does anyone now rounds i can shoot with the edge before i need a new barrel, if I don't load them hot? Also I just wanted to clarify 100-200 rounds was only through my long range set up, I do a lot of practicing with my 22mag pistol, It's great practice and a lot cheaper and its fun. That was my predicament exactly. I had conservatively at 115" to 120" coues hung up at about 700 yards for about 8 hours. Didn't have the rifle to make the shot. This is why I want to put together a better rifle and why I posted this in the first place. I appreciate all of the input.

308nut, just curious how much does the rifle in the photo weigh?

    Long range rigs

Awesome input. Nice to see so many folks passionate about shooting and accuracy. In my opinion shooting is more of an art not a science because there are so many variables, almost none exacting. In other words there are 1000 ways to skin a cat, chose 1. Just to keep the ball rolling. How do y'all feel about barrel lengths. Long range rigs

Thanks for all of the input. The average weight of a sendero in the 7mm mag caliber is about 8.55 lbs. My scope weighs 1.27 lbs. Altogether with rings is about 10 lbs. Not too bad.
