Another vote for Borderland. I used them last year near Flagstaff, and we were on bulls the entire hunt. Matt can definitely taylor the hunt to whatever you need. I didn't draw this year, but will be using him again, hopefully next year. He is worth the call. Good luck.

who hunts with ballistic tip ammo?
1gotaway replied to AZ RANGER's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Would a 140 gr. Accubond, be adequate for elk? I was planning on using these for the first time this year on my coues hunt and also on a cow elk hunt. -
Muskrat, I also drew the 34A tag for Oct. This is my third year in a row on that hunt. It is also my third year of coues hunting, so I am probably not the expert here. I got a good buddy that lives in Tubac that turned me on to it. I grew up hunting the north country. I can tell you one thing, I have seen a lot of deer in the previous two years. Quite a few solid bucks also. My first year our group was two for three and the biggest was 91". An awesome buck. Most of the hunters in this unit hunt very close to each other...my advice is stay away from them. doesn't take to much walking to get away from most of these guys. It seems that most will try and hunt up on the Santa Rita's. I wait for them to push the deer a little lower to us. Lots of great little canyons to glass, and each canyon has a ton of fingers hiding these suckers! We'll be down in the area a few times before the hunt and will have a 3/4 ton dodge and chevy, and a tent trailer with about 12" of clearence. Hope to run in to ya. Are you still working for a elec. testing firm? Which one? I am a project manager for a elec. contractor and do a lot of work on water and waste water facilities. Cody

I also joined the site a couple of days ago. Although I have been reading for a month or better. I really like all the info and opinions, especially the sarcastic ones. With the advice I have been given, I have already scratched the sequoia spotting scope from my list, almost have the lift on my truck, and have decided not to ask for hunting areas in unit 23! This stuff is great. If I could just get a few off you to take my rifle out and site it in, tie me up a nice coues in 34A, I would be set. Keep the jokes coming, most hunters have learned to be thick skinned. And no matter where you are hunting, just remember there is know such thing as a bad hunting trip. The ones that don't go so well are some of my fondest memories. I grew up hunting mule deer in the north country, but after a few years of not drawing a tag, one of my buddies told me I need to try some of the ghosts down south. I have never seen so many deer and other game. All these years in AZ and I had know idea. Greatest challange in the state, that I have had anyway. On my first coues hunt my hunting partner of many years, who had never shot anything bigger that a javalina, shot a 90" buck. And my dad, who had spent the last 10-15 years keeping an eye on us and teaching us to hunt, shot a little three point. Best deer hunting trip I ever had, and I came back with nothing but memories.

Thanks Scottyboy and firstcoues. I just got off the phone with Super Duty HQ, they were slightly higher than Off Road Unlimited. Anybody heard anything, good or bad, about Off Road Unlimited? Also if anybody has any input, I think I have narrowed it down to either a Fabtech or Superlift.

The Nikon was another one on my list to have a look at. Hopefully I will get a look at both of them in the next couple weekends. How much does it take to buy a slightly used leupold? What kind of lift do you have on the GMC? I have heard the Superlift has a pretty decent lift for the Dodge. And can anybody recommend anywhere to buy and have it installed (phoenix area)?

While we are talking leupold, does anybody have anything to say about the sequia spotting scope? I was going to look into one and that is about my price range. Also looking to put a lift on my truck. 04 dodge quad cab. My buddies got a 6" lift on his chevy and although there a very few places he can't go, the thing beats the heck out of you. I was looking to keep as smooth a ride as I can.

If you really want to have some fun and video footage, set up a trail cam on the ladder. Then cut the ladder rungs, at least 3 or 4 high, on one side all the way through and half way through on the other side. I'd like to see the video of them sending there clients up there on opening day. Of course this would probably wreck the water hole for hunting, but would be fun.

Just registered...hoping draw results come quickly so we have some new topics to read and hope on. But until then... Just got some of the Cabela's speed hunter boots that I will be trying out. I am also in the market for a new spotting scope (much to my wife's dismay). Looking for recommendations and pricing on the more resonable side. The wife doesn't understand why I need more gear, but I was recently converted from a muley hunter to a couse hunter. What a whole different ball game, and I am never going back!
