And make sure the new injectors have right spray pattern there are a lot of marine injectors that are the wrong pattern and they get the temp up a little faster and more black smoke (unburned diesel and extra heat)

Ya I would take a 12 valve again. Went to the 24 valve at 1998.5 and they had some electronic issue but after that think they are all good.

A lot of white fur witch is normally belly and low on chest so hard to tell unless saw impact, but my guess is low graze
