Hey BELLOTABUCKS Still want to hear the story on that buck on your avatar? WHAT DOES HE SCORE, AND WHERE DID YOU SHOOT HIM? looks like a really good deer! Jim

36A has always been tough for me. I've got some buddies that do real well there. so I know their in there. BELLOTABUCKS where did you shoot that buck on your avatar, and what is it? Do you have a better photo?

Alright Jim, If you say so. I'm guilty. Trophy hunter Bob. But don't you have to actually kill a trophy to be a Trophy hunter? Maybe you can hook me up? . Anyway Jim since I am a new trophy hunter I have a trophy hunting question. Say you have a client that wants a book buck. On the average, About how many 100" bucks do you have to pass up to actually see the 110 buck? Bob Bob, You'r not a "NEW" trophy hunter! Every animal you ever harvested was your trophy in one way or another. I recall one having a nice Big droptine! How many deer did you pass before you shot him? Yesterday morning my buddy passed up a deer we believed to be 100" because he didn't have to shoot a deer, even though it was the last day of his hunt. Again 100'----110" buck is a score. I would never tell anyone that we were looking for a certain size deer because they never seem to score on the ground like they do in the binoculars! If you like the deer shoot. Jim

Wow Bob, You sure are contridicting yourself! Are you left / right, or are you going to stradle the fence? I personally believe that you are a trophy hunter! A trophy is in the eye of the beholder. Not the score. People ask me what a deer scores, and I ask them if they like the deer? Regardless of score.

This season has started out with a bang! Jay Christleman, a freind of my hunting partner Jake Pike, had an October tag, so off we went. We met early on opening day to glass one of our good spots. Before the sun came up, Jake glassed up a nice buck in a ditch below us. He had a couple of 90 inch 3ptr's with him and a small forky. The game was on! Jake-Johnny and Jay went on the stalk. The wind changed and the deer decided to get out of there. I was watching from the top of the ridge trying to keep them in sight. They went behind a small ridge and never came out. After an hour or so Jay, Jake and I went down behind that small ridge looking for that nice buck. Jay made a beautiful shot and his 108 inch buck was on the ground!! Congrats Jay! Jake and I both drew the early November hunt. Scouting for our hunt we found several nice deer. We had decided on a couple of the nicer ones to keep a close eye on. Watching these bucks all through september growing their antlers and shedding their velvet in early october, we had a pretty good idea where these deer would be and how to hunt them. I still hadn't seen the deer I missed last year , but hoped he was still there. The second day of the hunt I glassed up a really big buck. I took off through the hills to a shooting position, and benched up my rifle. The buck was below me in a mesquite thicket when all of a sudden a mountain lion went into the same thicket and spooked him out of the country! I then realized this was the buck I missed last year! The next day, (my birthday) Jake glassed up a nice looking buck. We thought he was around 100 inches. He asked me if I wanted to shoot him on my birthday. I really didn't give him an answer, so after a few minutes Jake said, " if your not going to shoot him I'M GONNA!" Thinking about the buck that had spooked the day before made it difficult. But it would be cool to shoot a deer on my birthday. At this point I figured I better capitalize on my partners generosity and shoot. With some fine shooting, awhile later he was on the ground! When we walked up to the deer I couldn't believe how badly I had misjudged him! He was so much bigger than we had thought. Gross scoring 115 inches. The next day we were at it again. The excitement was in the air. We glassed up several young bucks through out the morning looking for the bigger bucks we had scouted. It was getting into the early afternoon, when Jake say's he has a good buck! The buck looked REALLY GOOD!! Even better was the fact that he was heading in our direction! A couple hours later and some more fine shooting, Jake's buck was on the ground!!! This deer is a large framed 4x4 with no eyeguards. He has real light colored antlers with drop beams on both sides. Gross scoring 111 5/8 inches. Congrats Jake! The amazing thing is that all the scouting we did revealed some really nice bucks, but we never saw the two bucks that we shot, while we were scouting. With a couple more hunts in Arizona, and the season in Mexico coming up, I can't wait to see what else hits the ground!!

Coues Sniper, Many years ago a good freind and hunting buddy shot a MONSTER 2ptr! This buck was officially measured by a B&C measurer at 111 1/8" net with a gross score of 114 and some change. Although he was measured I dont beleive he ever entered it. This deer has 20 inch beams--10 inch G2--5 inch eyeguards with a 17 inch inside spread. Unfortunatly I dont have any photos. Hi azcouesfanatic, Please tell me where in southern Az. you were seeing half of the coues deer bucks with polished antlers before sept. 10th? I think you are FOS!!!!

I've often thought of what it would take for a coues deer to surpass Ed Stockwells deer. I feel that it will just about have to be a 5 ptr plus eyeguards. This deer will have to be very symetrical, with exceptional point length! I hope when the Stockwell deer is de-throwned, that there will be photos, and unquestionable proof that it is with out doubt a coues deer! Jim Reynolds

I want to thank everyone that showed up. It was great meeting all of you. It started with four guys walking down my driveway at 9:00 in the morning, with the last leaving at midnight! Coues Sniper I wouldn't mind if you carried my rifle, but you might be more productive if you had your own rifle with a tag!

SIDERACK and I were out sweeping the country for sheds a couple of weeks ago. The Gila monsters were definetly out. We saw several in one day of searching for sheds.

Personally there are two items that I will not compromise quality for lighter weight. The two items are my rifle, and my spotting scope! I would carry your leica where ever I went. Skimming the fat in other places is more productive for me. My two cents
