PatrickJr replied to cmc's topic in Conservation Group Events
It was a great banquet, I hope everyone that attended left happy! Thanks for the support of AZSCI! -
My dad just got hit, I have a junior hunt and my dad finally drew a December hunt!

Do you know what the deer was aged at?
-
yeah i figured someone was going to say such! oh well, we had a good time. I was just saying that it sounded like there was going to be fish coming in from all over and we didnt get a bite. Thanks again guys! maybe next time we might have to fish together so you guys cans how me what im doing wrong
-
OK, I'm gonna be straight up with you guys, I am very thankful for all of your help but you guys made it sound like if we threw these baits, the fish would be fighting over them! lol We fished the first afternoon in a boat that when it was getting dark and we wanted to go, the motor wouldn't start. We never got a bite! we fished the next morning until 1 from the shore and still didn't get a bite. maybe we were doing something wrong or the fish just weren't having it, but we got pretty discouraged. We later found more success killing prairie dogs and coyotes! We heard of one guy catching a 16 inch pike and a couple guys caught walleyes. Oh well, we had fun though. I cant even imagine how much that lake is worth with all those lures and baits stuck in those weeds!

Been camping near Mormon Lake since Friday and we have been it pretty well every afternoon/night. some nights there is a downpour, some nights not so much. I wouldn't worry about "your bull" getting any lack of water. The unit 10 hunt is alot harder than most make it sound
-
Thanks everyone for your help! I am so excited to get up there and spend some quality time with my dad (in the cool temps!). I am pumped just thinking about catching a northern! We leave in the morning, and should get some fishing in tomorrow afternoon. I went a bought a dardevle and perch swimbaits, my dad also got some other minnows. We should be getting some frozen anchovies as well. We hope to be able to land some fish and hopefully a variety! Thanks again to everyone who helped, another reason why this is such a great website!
-
Are there any parts of the lake in particular that are better than others?
-
Cool, I definitely will be running some swimbaits, and might pick up that red and white spoon as I have heard elsewhere that they are great. Has anyone had any success using a top water frog? I picked up some perch swimbaits and and eppinger red and white dardevle

2014 Auction Tag Buck Video!!!
PatrickJr replied to Azlongears's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Woah, I also thought he was maybe bigger the year before. Crazy how when he has such long beams and the way his tines are tipped in, it seems rather deceptive and he looked smaller because of it. He obviously looked big but he looks way bigger on the ground! Congrats to all! -
Now Im not going to say I haven't ever killed rattlesnakes, but i believe the majority of snake bites are inflicted when someone is trying to kill the snake in "self defense". A snake is rarely going to bite you, it knows it cant eat you and would rather use its venom on something it can. Now I completely understand your reasoning as to killing these while with your kids! Ive been lucky enough to encounter 5 rattlesnakes this spring and have only had to kill one. I did skin him and "preserve" the skin. When i find i snake, i love to take photos. Thanks for being a great father and protecting your kids, and kill all the snakes you need to if it keeps them safe. However, killing too many snakes does make a negative impact on the enviroment.

I don't know, looks pretty positive to me... If you click on the photos to enlarge them, they will be more clear -
I do not have a stealth but on my coverts, there is a start-stop feature and I can set it to the times of the day I want it to run and when I don't, example I will set it to start at 1600hrs and stop at 900hrs. I also try to clear all branches and grass in view of my cameras. My camera has sensitivity settings but it has to do more with the temperature you experience in your area. So if your area is generally pretty hot, like SoAZ, then high works best, but if you are in the pines up north, medium will work best or if you are in Canada then low will work. Hope this helps, but I typically will still get thousands of photos, yet I have never had a card fill on me. This just occurred to me, your cam must be on a certain setting that literally takes a photo every minute, it is something called time lapse mode. If you take it off of time lapse it will be fine

Before he started hunting, he was telling me about how it might be a tough hunt and I told him that he was shooting himself in the foot by trying with the bow. And you know the rest....I hope he can get it done though, it is a once in a lifetime hunt
-
Bow or rifle? I have a buddy that is on his 5th trip up there and he has been able to get under 100 yards but he won't shoot that far with a bow on a buff. Idk if he is using the bow or rifle now. And congrats, how he well and cool getting him in the snow. I think every Saturday for the past 7 weeks it has snowed, so it been a tough hunt for everyone
-
Haha, last week I got off of work at about 10:30 and saw 4 pigs next to an LA fitness, I stuck up to 15 yards and woofed at them for a while. Gotta keep my stalking skills up to par
-
Far less secrets anymore. Agreed. I simply like it because I can look for areas that aren't close to houses then go to a certain website and I can find out if it is state trust land or not. There are predators everywhere, but I am looking at spots near my house since I only get paid minimum wage.
-
You know you love hunting when you are studying google earth looking for new predator spots when you should be studying for finals....my problem right now
-
Does anyone have any info on any deer killed over 110" in Arizona so far this year? I havent seen any other bucks over 110" killed this year in AZ. Thanks for the help.

Trap & skeet shotgun ... what's hot?
PatrickJr replied to Chris's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
For a lady I would try to find a browning citori in 20 gauge that isn't too beat up. 12 gauges always seem to be too much for the majority of ladies. I would look for good beretta for yourself. 682 Gold E sporting will work well for all 3 games and a good used on will go for 3k to 3.5k. But if you want to blow your retirement, then go ahead and get a Perazzi, Kreighoff, Kolar, or Blaser. A gun that I have always drooled over is a Beretta 692 sporting, and they go for new at 6k. Good luck -
Has anyone gone out lately? Seems that once the fox/bobcat season ended, there has been a severe drop off in predator hunting.... Has anyone had any success? I am going to try to go out these evening after checking my cameras...hope it won't be too hot! Good luck to all shed hunters, predator hunters, buff, bear, and turkey hunters in the coming months and congrats to all whom were lucky enough to draw a coveted AZ elk or antelope tag! 🎉 -Patrick

I only was there for 2 days and we saw multiple 350s and we passed and never saw a bull big enough for what the hunter wanted, on a later hunt Pat took out a hunter, I believe it was the November muzzleloader hunt, and they killed a 330 at 500 yards with the muzzleloader. In a minute I can put up a pic of 2 bulls killed in 10 from diamond. That is Pat, the one on the right is a 380 and the left is a 350 maybe 355. Both killed on the same early rifle hunt.
