Yes you can take an ATV down on the dam side and it is legal according to the sign posted as long as the atv will fit through the narrow opening. I was down there about a month ago and didnt know you could use a quad, I wished I would have. The road to the lake is rough but if you take your time I dont think it would be a problem. A few people had their quads down there and had lifted their trailers a little so as not to bottom out. You may want to try it with the quad only first and assess the situation. Good luck, fishing was great by the way.

Just wondering if anyone has been to the river lately. I will be going in the next couple weeks to the tick flat area. It will be a first for me and my dad. Any tips would be appreciated. Not looking for honey holes, just general info as far as bears, camping, etc.... Thanks, Rich

I saw one eating in someones front yard (when you're first coming into miami from the valley) on the same day! Looked like a fork or a small 3 pointer. Who needs a treesatand or a ground blind when all you have to do is open your window.

A friend of mine informed me this weekend that a friend of his and his two hunting partners were held up at gun point by four illegals with automatic weapons during the archery season. They were forced to strip down to their socks and underwear and robbed of all their gear. I dont know the exact location this happened, but it was somewhere in 36b. He told me that they talked to border patrol and said that border patrol was aware of these "gangs" who are actually targeting the smugglers to take the drugs and money that they are carrying. Just wanted to pass this on in case you are on your way down there in the next few weeks. Be careful. As a side note, my dad and I ran into 3 smugglers loaded with marijuana in 36b in the San Luis mountain range last year. Luckily they weren't hostile. Blessings, Rich

Sorry, I dont know the exact location but in all actuality, they could be anywhere. The 3 drug smugglers my dad and I ran into was in the San Luis mountain range, they said they were headed to 3 points. I would like to think that the problem is more toward the border, but I know its a lot more widespread than that. Perhaps Casey or anyone else who works for the BP will chime in and let us know what they have seen or heard with regards to "hot spots" to stay clear of. Rich

First off, I want to say that I believe in giving our youth opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and learn about our sport. I think its great to see dad and mom out with their kids. I started hunting at an early age, but it wasn't until I was fouteen that I received my first big game tag. To me, I think 10 years old is a little young for big game hunting but to each there own. I was just wondering why people feel its so necessary to have a separate hunt for them. I hear a lot of people saying they dont have enough opportunity, but look at all the leftover tags and the high draw odds on a lot of good coues deer hunts year after year. I think four general hunts on a unit is plenty and then you add two more youth hunts to the mix not to mention javelina along with them, I just think its going way overboard. I'm just wondering what your thoughts on this are, maybe theres something I just haven't thought of and theres a perfectly good reason for it. So go ahead and let me have it. blessings, Richard
