I have a Savage, and there is another member here that has a tack driver (Savage) who will also be glad to help you. You wont need another rifle unless you really want one, good mounts and scope, with proper bedding, and a trigger is were I would start. If you dont like your stock I would suggest a Boyds laminate, pillar and glass bedded, these are a very good option for the older long action Savages. The mounts listed below are excellent for the older savages, these are for a flat back action, if yours is newer it will have a round receiver, midway has those in stock as well. For a scope look at Leupold, or a Nikon if you are on a budget. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1548661544/burris-1-signature-zee-weaver-style-rings?cm_vc=ProductFinding http://www.midwayusa.com/product/386926/burris-2-piece-xtreme-tactical-scope-base-picatinny-style-savage-10-through-16-110-through-116-flat-rear-reversible-front?cm_vc=ProductFinding http://www.midwayusa.com/product/223896/timney-rifle-trigger-savage-10-through-16-110-through-116-210-without-accutrigger-2-to-4-lb-blue?cm_vc=ProductFinding

Questions on a Remington 280 rifle
452b264 replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would use the 280 rem. hands down,I also hand load my own ammo. If you are hunting under 500 yds. try the 150 or 160 gr. Partion, which ever one shoots the best. I had good luck with both, but if like just one bullet for all your hunting the 150 gr. Partion is excellent. If you are hunting beyond 500 yds. I would look at a Berger 168 gr. etc. -
Make sure to clean your action screw holes out,(de-grease)and use medium lock tight on the screws. I also lock tight my ring screws. Your mileage may differ.

1 week! I bought 500 rounds and saved five boxs for myself, its all I need. I use the ball ammo for practice. The ammo is priced at cost, shipping charges and the cost of ammo. You will be hard pressed to find this in a local store. They sell 20 rd. boxs for 23 to 24 dollars.

I have some extra loaded Speer LE ammo in 9 mm Gold Dot 124 gr. hp, 200 rds. $128 for all four boxes, these are 50 rd. box's, or $32.00 per 50 rd. box for CWT members. ***SOLD***

I have a Savage Small Shank, Pre-fit X-Caliber Premium Match/Match chamber, Stainless Steel 24 in. 1/10 twist heavy sporter profile and .640 at the muzzle for sale. $310.00 shipped These are 340 new.

The TTSX will punch through both shoulders of a large mule deer (300 lbs) with ease. They drop in their tracks when punched through the shoulders.
-
For the 25-06 I like the 120 gr. Partition, maybe the 115, or the 100 gr. TTSX Barnes bullets. The Barnes dont blood shot the meat even with a 300 WBY. and the internal destruction is impressive, they also penetrate very well. I have heard good things about the 25 cal. 110 Accubond but have only used the 150 gr. 30 cal. in my sons 3006, which works very well.

I don't think you drink craft beer?
-
My personal minimum preference is a #3 contour for standard rounds and a #4 for smaller magnums such as 7 mm rem. etc. No pencil thin barrels for me.
-
Does anyone shoot this bullet?

High pitched rabbit, rodent distress and the bird in distress at a constant lower volume than you would use for coyote. Cats can and will get bored and leave if you take very long pauses in between your series. Something to attract the cat such as a feather, a piece of fur tied to a stick so as to blow freely in the wind etc. cats are very visual. Also stay on your stand for 20 to 30 min.at a minimum. Good hunting

What are they coming to right now??
452b264 replied to BeardownAZ's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Dont over call your stand. Ever hear how elk hunters over use of the cow call? A good example is this past weekend my son and I were out rabbit hunting, and a coyote hunter let out a challenge call and was answered right away. He proceeded with about 20 more challenge calls. He should have only used one or two and sit quietly waiting for up to 20 min.He was unsuccessful the entire day. My son was stalking a rabbit and walked up on two coyotes bedded under a mesquite tree, he was within 45 yards of them before the pair noticed him, and there is coyote sign every where I walk in this area. I also found a bobcats toilet. When using rabbit sounds try to call softer with more time between each series. Howling also works well later in the season when used properly.
