On your scouting trips place 1 gallon containers of water where you plan to hunt/camp, I also put my freeze dried food etc. in a bag and lift it up in a tree to reduce the weight/bulk. I have also set up camp prior to opening day, cut wood, tent, sleeping gear all ready to go.

I have a Boyds laminate, and drilled two holes in the butt stock using a 5/8 inch diameter drill bit, it now weighs about the same as a synthetic stock with full alum bedding block , it made a noticeable difference.

The bull in my avatar has a bullet hole drilled through it at about 45 degree angle on the right antler in between the first and second point, the bull was facing the shooter, the shot was 800 to 1000 yards depending on which ridge he shot from. I had scouted hard, and found three bulls in this drainage a 350 6x6, a 5x5 with mass that made the 350 bull look small and the little 6x6 in my avatar which I shot at 65 yards.
