I’m sure it will happen for you this year. The late December hunt should be great this year with as much rain and cooler it’s been. Not sure about the showers but you should call them, I’ll bet they would work something out. Oh and I believe they have 2 rooms to rent out as well but u would have to reserve early.

Caballo Loco Ranch LLC. The Rv camp is in 36a with about a 14 mile maintained dirt rd to sasabe highway but it’s closer than Tucson and safe. You can dry camp or full hookups. Neat little place with library, observatory, full showers and bathrooms that are clean. I’ve stayed there three times while hunting 36c and will be going back.

This is true, don’t think about it that way. -
Traeger all the way for a pellet smoker. Easy care and cleaning. But for the real smoking flavor you can’t beat an old barrel smoker with wood chips and charcoal. I use both. Start out with the barrel to get a deep smoke ring then move over to th traeger to finish off the long haul.

Yes. Good luck to all the up and coming Coues slayers. Have a blast and enjoy it.

Okay looking for your honey holes. Jk! Looking for strategy advice. The last two years I have changed where I look for mature bucks. I am working thicker higher elevations but still hitting it the same as I did in the lower, with not a lot of success. I have great deer on cameras but can’t find them in the glass. So my question is 1- new area, how many days till you write it off as good/ no good? 2-look close, pick apart a canyon all day or run and gun? 3-how thick is to thick? 3 being the tough one for me. I know there’s great bucks in the area but it’s thicker then I feel someone should hunt with glassing technique . More like a ambush archery area. I believe there are hunters that have a ton of success in this general area just not me. Any suggestions on how to hunt thicker/ new areas and how much time to spend a canyon/ cut would be appropriate.

Thank you for the replies. To clarify, #1 when I say “new area”mean one specific draw / cut in the overall area. The more I read and research big mature bucks can live in one draw/cut. #2 “run and gun” meaning glass from one advantage spot all day or move on to another but staying in the same general area. #3 “ too thick”. South facing slopes are spotty open to glass. If you spot a deer to get a shot with a rifle would be difficult. North facing slopes almost impossible to glass. It like I said I know there are great deer in this area.

Ok i was donated a 13b archery tag NOW WHAT? 😯

That’s a shame to let that tag go to waste. Understand life happens but it could have been passed another deserving person. -
To add to the question. Where is everyone taking their kids to shoot. Pima pistol cub in Catalina will not let kids under the age of 14 shoot.

I’d say as a hunter around 7. Just spent 12 days on an archery tag Utah. Came home and started preparing the wire for scouting trips for Coues. Would love to be a 10 which I feel would take my harvest to the next trophy level butttt between work 50-70 hr weeks, club baseball , high school football wrestling and track. Plus let’s not forget a great wife that puts up with my obsession. Yeah 7 might be pushing it. But at heart is a different story.

Dang not a lot of meat on those goats as is. At least there’s a free cape in The classified section

The day is upon us! Let's hear the reports!
grey curse replied to broadhead's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
You practice and practice year round for the one day to come. The day a toad of a deer that you’ve been dreaming about ,waiting for and chasing comes within range and you choke to buck fever. I hate it but at the same time that rush is so addicting. -
Nice rig, I’ve always wanted an Remington 700 titanium and to top it off in a 7 saum. Good luck on the sale of rifle. I’ll pay the dollar difference and just take the scope 😜

^^^ why does it seam like the new guys kill great bucks their first few years of hunting Coues. Is it because they dont really know what they are doing but find the old bucks hid outs. Always amazes me to see the new guy holding a 100+ deer saying these Coues deer arent that hard to hunt.

I had the early hunt in 12aw a few years ago. Up High there are lots of roads and rd hunters. Hike a little, get away from the norm and glass. Youll be surprised whats out there and how lazy people are. I Imagine down low is the same as up high Good luck.

Was fortunate enough to draw the limited opportunity archery hunt in west Vernon. Super excited since Ive been applying for ten years now. Have a brother lives in Utah doing some scouting for me, think his more excited then I am. Just wondering if anyone on cw has hunted this area and what their experience was. Maybe a successful story or two with pictures. Not looking for secret spots, just what to expect from others hunters and deer potential. Thanks
