Thats one loud call if that buck reacted at 864 yards....Look like nice bucks to me!
-
to the guy who hunted a tank south of tucson, don't worry, i cleaned up your mess for you.you know who you are. 20 gauge Remington shells, most likely you're a poor shot with your o/u (shells found in sets of 2) and you stood on the burm next to the tank chain smoking pall malls. And if that leaves any doubt, you left about a dozen dead dove where you parked. I cleaned up the birds, over 20 shells, and the pack worth of butts you flicked.I'm sure you were gonna go back and clean up like any true sportsman/decent man would, but I just cleaned up after you because I had nothing better to do with the last half hour of shooting light today. I'll say hi if I ever see you out there, trust me.

Huge buck

I'm begging for a pat on the back.... I don't know where I expected it to go,maybe the douche would happen to read it,maybe I'm just venting my frustration of people with no respect for something I love so much. Why does that bother you? You hunt south of tucson and smoke pall malls or somethin?

Obviously wasn't using hot loaded hard cast .357 ammo.... that's the key
-
Between the two guns you have, the 357 is the clear winner.get the heaviest hardcast underwood ammo you can and it'd do the job.I just got back from alaska, and after seeing bear in the wild,as close as 30 yards,it became clear that a handgun is a last resort behind bear spray.but I do believe it's worth carrying. There was a bear attack on a hiking guide while I was up there where the bear charged again after being bear sprayed.also,it's not going to be effective if the wind is blowing in your face.I took a super blackhawk. 44mag and a glock 20 10mm with me and carried both, but next time I go I will most likely take the glock,it's just much easier to carry, and with the 220gr hardcast ammo it will do the job in a pinch. A guy I know in alaska killed a big brown bear that got within 10feet of his young son while they were fishing last year with the same setup. The 357 is just slightly less powerful then the 10mm with the right ammo

Looking for a Guide
dustin25 replied to azbackwoods's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
There are dove guides?! DOVE ? Haha -
Good luck with that 9mm when you go to grizzly country.maybe just take a 22 and put 50 rounds on target vs the bear? I'll take a gun with a good likelihood to do the job.
-
Talk about armchair quarterbacking... watch the video of the grizzly charge that snapchat just posted, then come back and tell me it's just fine to carry a 9mm in that situation to protect clients. I leave for Alaska tomorrow, i will be taking a 44 with hot hard cast loads because it's my responsibility to protect my family. I will also be carrying bear spray as a first option, because it is proven to be more effective in deterring bears, but not usable in certain situations. I understand that I will most likely need neither. But if the one in 1000 situation occurs I will be ready, because it's worth it to me to defend my family and carry 4 extra pounds around. There might be no second chance when deAling with those massive bears.

It did work...point is, chances are much better that a more powerful handgun has a much better chance of killing a grizzly.he owes it to his clients,as their guide, to be able to protect them to the best of his ability.that means not relying on a 9mm to stop a bear attack. You're not going to find much to argue that if you talk to people that llive and work up north.he got lucky.
-
That's true, but regardless i bet he dosent take that chance again
-
I understand who Phil shoemaker is, but he got lucky this time, should have never been caught with anything smaller then some hot load hard cast 10mm in grizzly country ...especially as the guide. talk about a wake up call! I can't imagine how terrifying that would be!

Vortex summit ssp is my backpacking tripod. Packs small, very sturdy for being so small, and weighs 2# or less, and I think I paid less then 100 bucks for it

Shoot a little low, like 1/3 up body behind shoulder instead of half way. Wait til they're not lookin if possible, even better if they're not aware you're there.

Oh ok thanks. I happened to do that 3 times in a new area we found last year, but I've never heard of a quail slam before. One morning I got a male and female of all 3 species,I remember thinking it was pretty cool -
