Are you looking for Elk or Deer? Most of the elk here where I live in NM have already dropped their antlers, find areas with fairly fresh sign and start hiking and glassing. Antler hunting is not about how many antlers you find in an hour, but how many you find per miles you walk. Goodluck and keep us posted, --Bill

Congratulations Travis. Now that you've broken the ice you'll be shooting them out of self defense. Nice bird, --Bill

Great pictures, I need to get back out this weekend. --Bill

You are not kidding about them being "busted up", that is a great haul. --Bill

"June 9 Results of drawings for public land deer draw licenses, Units 2A, 2B, 2C, 4 and 5A private land-only deer licenses, elk, pronghorn antelope, ibex, Barbary sheep, javelina and bighorn sheep available on the Department’s Web site at: www.wildlife.state.nm.us or in person at any Department office." A little while to go, best thing to do is try and forget about it until it happens. Good luck on your draws, --Bill

Went out for a short (6 mile) hike yesterday to scout a new ridge and did pretty good. After walking about a half mile, found this nice 6. Walked around for a couple hours finding a few whites, and decided to go back and try to match up the first one again. While I was glassing I saw another brown on another ridge and went after it picking up two more whites on the way. After not being able to find the match, we headed off the hill. I looked back and saw this. The picture is zoomed in, it was about 80 yards away. Got the pack loaded up and started out. Another white on the way out. Here is a picture of the days find. My horse loaded, (have to get the CWT sticker in a picture) --Bill

Derek, I'd rather carry antlers than carry a turkey . This weekend my wife wants me to take her up to our cabin and call some birds in so she can shoot them with her Canon Powershot. . --Bill

Very good day indeed, I'm amazed how green it is there already. --Bill

Doug, Thanks for sharing your hunt with us, great story and pictures. I never thought I'd say this, but I think I might be spending too much time in the woods and not enough time checking in at CWT.com. Congratulations, --Bill

It's real nice Doug, the 2 points off the 4th are broken. I wish I could have found it when it was brown (as I do with all the whites). Pictures almost never do antlers justice. --Bill

That's cool, pretty exciting for a young hunter. Way to go. --Bill

Very good Mike. --Bill

Very nice Clay, thanks for sharing. --Bill

Thanks for the kind words everybody. I'm stuck being responsible (sort of) while Little Bill is out checking other places, I hope he does well. I wish we had Coues' around here they sure would be easier to pack out. --Bill

My Son is on spring break so yesterday we went to an area I've been wanting to explore. We ended up carrying out 4 browns, and 5 whites. Left another 12 whites up there. Little Bill's 1st brown elk of the year. He found the match nearby. His 1st brown Elk set of the year. Here he is carrying more for me to pack out. Getting ready for the 3 mile pack to the 4-wheeler. Hiking back... Found this one on the way out. Here is a shot of the 4-wheeler loaded and ready for the drive to the truck. Thanks for looking, --Bill

Happy belated Birthday Brent. I hope everything went well. --Bill

Not the best quality it's about 450 yards through the 15's. What's in this picture? --Bill

Good deal Gino, keep them coming. --Bill

I glassed a bull a couple weeks ago that had already shed and today was the first chance I had to go look. He was all alone in an area I never thought I'd see a Bull. First sheds of the day. My Leopard Cur Boone found this, we were walking along and he sat down and started sniffing this. (Mickey the Rat Terrier came in for backup). Mickey with the other side. I leaned both up for the picture. --Bill

Congratulations Oak, just received the new Fair Chase and saw the pic of your Mt. Goat. I would love to make another trip to Alaska sometime. --Bill

In front of the juniper in the center you can see an antler silhouetted against the trunk. That's him, he didn't spend a whole lot of time out in the open posing for me. Snapshot, I had to drive south to visit the Coues' country. We still have about 3 feet of snow on our north faces around here. --Bill
