  1. Alright, I was just wondering if I'm the only one or is there some kind of unspoken code that when you spend too much time behind the glass you're not supposed to talk about the crazy thoughts, hallucinations, or odd remarks made by or to your hunting partner? When is it going too far? When you start naming trees and rocks? When you start talking to the trees and rocks through the glass, or when the trees and rocks start talking back? I need to know before I decide to see a therapist. Thanks, --Bill

    Hounds

Well... I won't turn a dog loose without a tracking collar. If I lost track of a dog and it wound up on or near asphalt with a chance of getting run over I would really appreciate if someone picked it up and called me. I keep updated info on all collars, I haven't read one in awhile but I believe it says to call collect. If I have a dog on a dirt road somewhere I am looking for it, and would like it to be left alone. I really puts a damper on finding a dog when the signal on the collar gets farther away and finally gets lost. You never know if someone stole the dog, destroyed the collar, or if you'll ever see your dog again. At the same time, everytime you turn a dog loose you realize that that animal is doing what it was bred for and there is a chance it won't come home alive. So many dangers out there that will take a dog. Unlike bird dogs that are trained to be in complete control everytime you hunt, big-game dogs are relied on to do "the right things" without a human telling them what to do, and continue doing their lives work until you show up, which can sometimes be hours after they tree or bay their target. I don't have all the answers, just my opinions for what they are worth. --Bill

    Think Arizona is crowded?

Bringing home the meat is a problem now that the airlines are enforcing their overweight baggage charges. I am too old to climb trees. Anyway, the fellow who has invited me to hunt with him removed all of his treestands after one crashed and dropped him on another guy. He broke a leg, the other fellow now has chronic back problems, so he's built permanent ground blinds all over his place. Bill Quimby I can see where flying meat could be cost prohibitive. We would cut wrap and freeze the backstraps and tenderloins, and I would put them in my insulated wheeled carry on from Cabelas. As long as I kept it under 40 lbs. the airline folks didn't ask any questions. The rest of the meat we left with our friends and they would get deer sticks, and ring balogna made and either ship it to us in an isulated box, or bring it to us when they came out here to NM elk hunting. Ground blinds sound like a good way to be out of the weather and still be able to move around a bit. Probably a bit easier than freezing in a tree all day. --Bill

    Think Arizona is crowded?

That sounds like a good time Bill. I passed up going this past November so I could hunt AZ. I sure missed hunting sitting in a tree and grunting rutting bucks. But I'm thinking that I just might have to put in for AZ again next year. Get yourself a couple antlerless tags, the meat is amazing. --Bill
  19. Heck, anymore just drawing a tag here in NM is reason enough to be happy. I drew one hunt this year and it was AZ coues'. A friend in AZ had drawn a different unit for the same time so he showed on a map a couple places to scout before the season. We were staying at his house so after each day we could discuss what happened while out. A friend from here in NM also drew with me and we've been hunting together for the past 20 years, being able to share my limited time with some good friends, and being fortunate enough to be able to encounter an animal as fine as the one I shot was just good fortune. Being able to live in a place where we can enjoy activities such as hunting is somethinig to treasure. Other than my own hunts, hunting with my son and spending time with him is always a success. Probably what I look forward to the most is seeing what hunts he draws for each spring and seeing how he prepares himself for each outdoor experience. --Bill

    Think Arizona is crowded?

I've hunted with some friends north of Philly during the archery rut, and there is no shortage of deer where I was. There was something like 85,000 antlerless tags, sold first come first served. $6.00 each for residents, and $26.00 each for residents. --Bill

So sorry to hear about your loss. "Please do me a favor and tell those whom you care about that you love them." Those are some very important words, not a day goes by that I don't let my family know how much I love them. Thoughts are with you, --Bill

    FREE wooden gun cabinet

"Casey since your dad made it, with his own hands, I think you should keep it, come on Casey honor him and tell it will be an honor for you to have it.............." It would probably be neat to give it to your kid someday. Maybe you could find somewhere to store it and maybe even use it to keep all of your shed antlers, deer racks, skulls, and other hunting knick knacks. --Bill
