New Mexico G& F Hit my CC Today
WFGinNM replied to scoutm's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
"Thanks...Is this something new? I don't ever recall them doing this in the past? If they did I completely missed it or maybe the fact that prior years I used my CC I didn't ever see the money gone. Lesson learned don't give them your debit card and be out the money." It's kind of new this year. Years ago everything was paid for at the time of applying but since NM joined, or is still trying to join the computer age the process changes yearly (sometimes monthly). Don't get used to this system, next year will be different. --Bill -
New Mexico G& F Hit my CC Today

They just started withdrawing the fees for the "pay up front" hunts. I'd try to forget about the draw until June. --Bill -
Doug, The leg angle is fixed. There is an allen head screw holding the factory head on, but I need to get a metric allen wrench for it. I was kind of under the impression when I bought this tripod that it was semi-disposable. One good thing to look at is I could get the Slik legs and Jim White head and save this setup for my Wife to use the Steiner 12x50's on. --Bill

I haven't tried to remove the head that came with the 718B, I wasn't sure if it is permanent or not. I hope to be getting some 15's soon (I know I've been saying that for awhile, but I'm getting serious about selling the Bronco) and want to be using the same tripod. The other option I might do is get the Slik Sprint Pro, my friend has that set up and it is nice. --Bill

Congratulations guys, Looks like you were hunting a bit south of me, I like chasing animals down there it's nice to be in different country. Very nice, --Bill

hunter4life, Looks like a productive weekend. I've been slow with the sheds this year, I've actually found more fresh deer than elk, and that has never happened before. --Bill
-
Congratulations, very nice turkey. --Bill

Thanks guys. It was pretty cold Saturday, and my friend had to chain up his truck to get up to my cabin Friday night. Hopefully we can get one more this weekend and start walleye fishing. --Bill

San Mateo Mt. Gobbler

Good deal Travis, I love that part of the state. I'm sure the weather was nicer than the Jemez over the weekend. --Bill -
Jason, I first thought you might be talking about the band. I'm not too surprised about that joker. --Bill

No coues there by you, Bill? I don't find many but I act like a kid in a candy story when I do! Nope, no coues' here in North Central NM. Plenty of elk and big ears though. Don't want to hijack your post but I'll have to have the wife take some pics of my "keeper" elk sheds to post on another thread. As far as coues', I just have to live vicariously through you guys. If I ever found a brown coues' shed I'd probably pop. --Bill

Very nice Coues 'n' Sheep. Someday I'll work my way south and look for coues' sheds. --Bill

I just use high brass #6's out of a 20 gauge. You are only trying to whack him in the head. --Bill -
I think it may be this Buck I posted back in December, the back right fork is short. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...showtopic=11676 --Bill

Went for a quick walk behind the house just now and found this. I didn't have a camera, so no ATL pictures. --Bill While looking, the day after I found the left side I found a year old antler that I thought might be the right side but I wasn't sure. I stained it and kept looking. (not the same Shiner, but the same 6-pack) Well.... After almost a month of looking behind every house, and in every woodlot around here, my Wife, Son and I were walking the dogs about 1/4 mile from here and I found the other side. Both right sides, the one with the kicker is from last year. Now I can sleep at night I hope. --Bill

Here is a fresh elk I found a couple weeks ago. --Bill

Good finds Jason. --Bill

Yes it's from the Jemez. Weak lowers but pretty good mass and long tops for around here. --Bill

Updated the original post... --Bill
