This has been exactly the kind of convo I was hoping to have, thx guys! So now I am leaning toward a new custom build. With what I have been reading and hearing the 6.5/284 seems to be a solid caliber. For what I'm wanting to do is this a wise choice? Or stay with a 7 mag? I keep hearing the Rem 700 action is the one to use? Is there better? If so how much better? Sounds like a hs precision or a McMillan stock but which one? Triggers Jewell or timney? Barrels?? I'm totally in the dark on this one. If you guys don't mind I would like to get some education on a few things. What is blue printing, trueing, floating, bedding ? Is this all thing that a smith will do as part of a build? How important are these things? For glass I will probably go vortex as I know a dealer and can get it at a pretty good cost. But what about rings and other stuff? Thanks ahead of time for taking the time to help a greenhorn get a little smarter and hopefully build a quality gun the first time around. Eric

Oh and this gun will be for Coues deer mostly, maybe a Muley. Everything else including mule deer I like to chase with a bow.

Thanks for the replies guys. So, because I see a lot of talk about the Remy 6.5, let's say I get one. Now do I leave it as is, keep or buy only the action and re-barrel it? If that's even possible. What about new trigger, stock, brake and anything else that you can think of? Again, I am super green, so if I am thinking way ahead of myself let me know. I want to learn the correct way to do this and do it right.

And I applaud you for being a stand up guy! Wish more hunters were. My fear is that now that the 'Bo' is charging many others will follow suit. Just to make some cash.

I used to shock em with a 22 pistol. Anything loud and abrupt will usually get em to shock gobble.

You will never hear the liars on the news says the brown fire was caused by aliens.. Not pc... Just one more destructive thing they do to our country and get away with it!

Congrats! What hunt is open right now?

I mean this as no disrespect but they don't care about what kind of hunter/person you are. If you have $60 you are on... It's all about money. Period... Just like most things with wildlife nowadays.

Hunt the ranch! It's a giant unit with elk in most of it. Having many years of huning the unit i thinkThe late hunt can be great IMO. water can work, off the ranch of course, but I think spot and stalk is the way to go. The bulls are normally locked up on a food source and don't move hardly at all allowing to wait for the right stalk. Not to mention there is hardly any pressure and the few guys that do the hunt mostly hunt the weekends. The hard part isn't finding bulls, its finding an unbroken bull. It's not all roses as it is a tough hunt and you will earn it, but it is very doable! Good luck

It used to be a great hunt! One of the best! But has slid quite a bit in numbers. I've killed quite a few in the past and know a few spots that seem to produce. If these other guys info doesn't pan out, drop me a pm and I will try to help out as much as I can.

This thread is exactly why this site has gone the way of the bow site, hunt hard, and monstermuleys and the reason i rarely post here. This "im right and dang you for thinking different" or the "its all about me" ways of thinking is why hunting has become what it is today. heck, i even quit guiding due to the drama and bs that is constant between hunters or other outfitters. One day hunters are gonna Realize that they are their own worst enemies.. antis won't take us down..... We will!!!!!!! There are two sides to EVERY Discussion. Somewhere in the middle is usually where the truth is found, but by all means carry on like juveniles and start insulting each other... That will fix it. OR further divide us. Your choice, choose wisely. Good day gentlemen. -
I hunt this unit every year during the archery, jr, and rifle hunt and kill pigs most of the time. All I can say is go north on the dirt road and hunt the base of the weavers to the east or the greybacks to the west. Some other areas that are real good if you have an atv is north east of the stanton octave road. all the areas near the hassayampa river are loaded with pigs!!! If you really want to hunt the date creek mtns then go west about 4-5 miles and hunt the breaks going to date creek. you can get in there from the highway heading west from congress. Get up high and glass glass glass. good luck!!!

I used to be glasmup but due to email and password problems I am now 208muley. Anyways I am having a heck of a time with putting this dvd on a new laptop. I lost the serial number and that what it needs to work on my mac. if anyone could help with a serial number or at least a pattern of their s/n that would be great. This is now a discontinued product and they have no tech support for it. (crappy deal if you ask me) I have a ton of info on this and really want to get it to the new computer... thanks in advance... Eric
