Effects of so many monsters killed on the strip this year
208muley replied to bonecollector777's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
The strip is managed for older age bucks, so if azgfd does their job right, the bucks will always be there. But remember in 2010 they killed a bunch of great deer especially in 13a. After that it was a bit tougher to find giants for a few years. Now we see a year like this one where all the stars align and lots of giants hit the ground. Let's see what happens next year. -
^^^^^^^^^ my wife's is similar.... 20" with talleys ..... Shoots the heck out of 140 bergers. Love this gun almost more than my 280ai.... Almost...

Kimber mountain accent in 280ai. With scope mine weighs 6.4. Shoot 1/2" moa to 700. My wife has a savage model 11 in 6.5 creed... Mid 6lb and shoot 1/2 moa to 500. I like em both..

Katadyne hiker pro. If its muddy then use a coffee filter pre pre-filter. Sawyer is good just takes a long time unless you use a dirty bag and put the filter inline.

I like mine! Yes I can see light thru it. -
Check some of the desert areas by 4 peaks, sunflower, gisela, jakes corner and roosevelt lake to name a few. There are a bunch of pigs in the high country by payson, pine and strawberry but they are harder to find. I will apologize now if I gave someone else's spot away but these areas always seem to hold piggies.

For backpack hunts this one gets the call. For day hunts the little $5 stool from Sportsmans wherehouse gets the call.

50 gal drum full of water+ cage trap with stray cat inside= no more cat problem Of course I am not a cat fan at all.
-
Water can be a very big issue. There are lots of springs on the map that are now dry. Lots of dead zones where there are no deer at all.
-
Black hills including the flats that surround them and hike as far into the cerro colorados as you can. Look hard as these deer have been pounded already by two hunts.

Good Luck to all with north of the river Mulies

No fair showing a buck that's already dead. 2010 I believe. But if the rest of the hunts go like 13b did it should be pretty awesome! Good luck too all! -
Done!!!! God is great, beer is good and the draw is crazy! I think I'm done buying a fall point.... Turkeys aren't sheep or early bull.... 18 points should be more than enough for a goulds tag... Of course I will probably change my mind once it's time to put in.. I'm azgfd favorite sucker!! Lol

^^^^^^^^ it's a family site so I refrained from posting all the new words and phrases i invented last night when I "vented" to my wife!!!! Lol she got to hear new and interesting ways to define the draw..... Lmao

Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!

I know that's why I asked about "helpers" figured that would include guides family and friends etc... Should have been more clear... -
Does this one have a 1/4 zip bottom with a drawstring or full zip? Do you have the straps for attaching to your pad? Thx

Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!

Steve, I totally understand that ranches have financial responsibilities in running a ranch. Are hunters supposed to cover all the expense or a portion? If a portion what %? Also is there somewhere that we can find out, or can you post exactly how many permit holders for each hunt actually pay to go on the ranch and how many "helpers" pay to go on the ranch? Transparency in these items would greatly help all to form an opinion and also offer advice on this. I am guilty of being knee-jerk as well as most are but if history tells us anything, hunters are the ones that tend to loose and outfitters and ranches tend to win. Transparency helps that. Thank you -
Congrats on the hunt! A longhaired billy is at the top of my list so I am a little envious!

Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!

Some thoughts....... The land is checkerboard, the animals belong to the state (us). These ranches need to be opened up to all hunters to manage our animals. Money for the rancher ( if that is the issue) shouldn't factor in as that it privatizing a public resource. If this is about outfitters, like some ranches are, then the ranch should be out of a unit and no tags if the public can not use the ranch. Azgfd should play hardball with these landowners/outfitters when it comes to this kind of situation. The devil is in the details and with what the BO has put out, there are no details. If the ranch is 100% private then I have a whole other idea on how to work that out. I am not anti rancher nor anti outfitter but when it comes to a public resources I do believe that the public shouldn't get the shaft as we usually do. There are ways to work this out for all parties. But if the ranch is going to go hardball then so should azgfd. They hold the biggest cards in the deck. -

Close it! Then cut it out of the unit so nothing can be hunted. When the elk numbers skyrocket, and they surely will, they will beg for hunters to come in to kill em so their precious cattle can eat and drink. This is nothing more than another power play/money grab..... Close it and cut it out of the unit!!!! Azgfd has the power to do this.- 67 replies

How do you know who got what/you didn't get a turkey tag? Did you use separate cc's for each? Yep
-

I have 10s, 15s, 30s, and a spotter. All have their place and all are used depending on how im hunting. When I'm backpack hunting I only have 15s and my buddy uses 10s with a spotter as he can sit behind his spotter all day and one-eye it, it's crazy to see him do it without headache day after day. Together we are lethal at finding critters. When I'm solo I have 10s 15s and spotter. 30s are only when I'm close to the truck, they are heavy! What I'm saying is it all depends on your style and what you are comfortable doing all day, day after day. If you can one-eye it for long periods of time 10s and a spotter, if you can't, like me, then build your arsenal with the best you can afford and use them based on how you are hunting and what you are hunting.

Not sure the reason for not posting the pic. There are watermarks so it's basically advertising for them. It's all over the Internet anyways. Post it
